Chapter 3

Author: Liora
"Have you lost your mind, Thalia? You’re my destined mate, the next Luna of the pack… so why attack an innocent she-wolf? Just because I didn’t tell you about my party?"

Losing control of his emotions, Damon shifted into wolf and struck me hard. He sent the back of my head slamming against the stairs railing, and a sharp ring buzzed in my ears.

Then, he stood over me and looked down. "Who gave you the guts to lay a hand on Raven, right before my eyes?

"Just being near a filthy Omega like you… Your scent makes my wolf sick!

"I, Damon Hale, reject you as my mate."

I forced myself upright through the pounding pain in the back of my head. "Don't worry. I'm leaving now, and you'll never smell me again."

"At least you know your place." He sneered and scooped up Raven. Then, he walked out without looking back.

As the wound at the back of my head healed, I staggered to my feet and immediately called for an urgent clearing service an hour later. While I waited, memories from when I was 12 flooded my mind.

Damon had snuck away from training to place bets at an illegal wolf fight, yet ended up losing big and started furiously picking fights with a stranger. Grabbing his arm, I tried to calm him down, only to get caught in the crossfire.

When the grown he-wolf's claw tore my arm, Damon went wild. He lunged at the wolf, a head taller than him, and tore him bloody.

Back then, he only had eyes for me. But now, he would maul me for another she-wolf without a second thought.

But none of that mattered anymore. Once the Alpha and Luna returned, I'd formally apply to leave the pack for good.

After changing out of my blood-soaked clothes, I went over to the wall to pick up my cracked phone.

After paying 500 dollars to hire the most expensive scent-removal team in the pack, I watched them scrub every inch of the villa until not a trace of my scent was left behind.

Two hours later, I moved my suitcase into a last-minute-rented apartment complex. Since it was near the Pack Council Hall, it was close enough for me to get to and from work as the Alpha's private healer.

But this was just temporary. Once I received my advanced healer offer in Coghaven, along with my diploma certificate, I would leave the Shadowmire pack forever. After that, Damon and I would never meet again.

Five days after moving out, Damon called. I heard noise and laughter in the background as he said, "I want to see you in five minutes at Royal Sanctum Room 7777."

I was working on my résumé when he interrupted me, so I snapped back somewhat annoyedly, "What do you want?"

He went silent, and the noise in the bar quieted too.

Just as I thought the call had disconnected and was about to hang up, he suddenly asked, "Thalia, where have you gone?"

Zane and I hadn't planned on going public so soon.As the current Alpha of Coghaven, every move he made was closely watched. We agreed to wait until we officially marked before making an announcement. But recently, Zane had taken charge of a major medical reform for Coghaven Council, which placed him right in the middle of the pack's core spotlight.Even if we carefully arranged to meet only at night, there was always a chance we'd get caught on camera. He'd had enough of hiding. So one night, he pulled out a silver ring he'd designed himself and proposed on the spot.I didn't hesitate and immediately said yes.As we were walking home hand in hand, a low, hoarse voice suddenly called out behind us, "Thalia…"I instinctively turned around to see Damon step out of the shadows with red-rimmed eyes. The sight had me frowning deeply. When he spoke, his voice was soft and almost drifting. "Don't be afraid, Thalia. I'm not here to cause trouble. I just… wanted to talk to you."I co

An old classmate texted and sent me a link, telling me to check it out.It led to Raven's post, who cried victim online. "I lost the pup because Thalia pushed me… She's always been jealous of me, so she stole Damon from me, and now she's trying to hurt me too…"She posed in front of a hospital backdrop and added a picture of the diagnosis report, playing the perfect victim. She guided the public to target me with a wave of abusive comments, and some even got hold of my phone number.Every morning, I woke up to a flood of missed calls from strangers. All my social media platforms were bombarded with malicious messages. Even classmates, who barely spoke to me, came crawling out to point fingers.I let out an angry laugh and lodged a police report before calling Damon's number. "Where's the surveillance footage? Hand it over now."I thought he'd at least have the decency to feel ashamed, but I was wrong. On the other end of the line, Damon's voice was light. "It's fine with me if y

After that day, the Alpha and Luna called me several times. Their voices were gentle as they talked me into coming back to the Shadowmire pack, but I turned them down without hesitation.I'd fought with everything I had to get out of that place, so no way I'd ever go back. When the day came for the meal I'd arranged with Zane, he showed up in the same understated black with his cap pulled low.I understood. As Alpha of Coghaven, he was always under watch, especially when he was the Chief Alpha with a seat in the council and had an influence across major territories. Showing up in a border pack made him an easy target for gossip and ambushes.I booked a special private room in the back, but we'd barely sat down when Damon barged in. He grabbed my wrist and barked, "How dare you be having dinner with him!"I yanked my hand free and frowned. "Who do you think you are to control me?"Instead of holding back, I bared my claws just enough to make him flinch and let go. Then, I steppe

Damon had always said my existence was getting in the way of his perfect life with Raven, so I made up my mind. That same day, I posted a picture on Instagram, which showed a large, bony male hand wrapped tightly around mine, our fingers interlocking. The caption was just one word. "Hello."Within minutes, my comment section exploded."Wait a minute. This hand isn't Damon's, is it?""What are you doing? Are you insane?""Take it down! Quit causing trouble!"Damon's gang of cronies instantly jumped in to swarm me with comments and insults. As I sat there sipping my water and watching them lose their minds, I couldn't feel any better. Finally, I set my phone down and turned to the he-wolf beside me. "Is it true that you're… Zane Duskbane?"Wearing a cap and mask, Zane was dressed in black from head to toe, which completely covered every inch of his skin. He nodded at my question.Though he was Alpha, his presence wasn't overbearing. If anything, it was calm and restrained. He

After a few steps, all the strength drained from my body as I sank onto the stone steps. My cheeks stung, and my ears rang; Damon hadn't held back with that slap. He'd always been that way, to trust anyone but me. Raven loved putting on her little shows and framing me since high school. Once, she got trapped in the restroom. I kicked down the door to get her out, but she threw herself into Damon's arms and cried, "Thalia locked me in."In my past life, when he grumbled about feeling stressed and needing a break, I booked flights and a beach villa in Alohara six months ahead.I flew over only to find out that he hadn't gone to any party at all. Instead, he took Raven off-road climbing. I was instructed to tag along as their healer. When we were climbing, rocks suddenly came loose above us. Just as a boulder was about to hit Raven, Damon grabbed her in that moment of danger and dodged, exposing me below.I was struck by the rocks and thrown off the cliff, falling into a jungle shrouded

I kept typing. "You said my scent made you sick, so I moved out. I won't show up in front of you again."His breathing turned ragged, and his voice was suddenly cold as he snapped, "What the hell are you playing at? You used to stick to me and obey my every word, so if I tell you to leave the pack, will you?"I'm warning you; stay the fuck away from Raven, or I swear you'll pay for it."I laughed. "Alright, I get it. I'll just leave."With that, I hung up without another word.……The résumés I sent out started receiving responses.Among them, the one I was most excited about came from a pharmaceutical company in the nearby Cinderscorch pack. It was a major enterprise under Coghaven.I scheduled an interview immediately. In my past life, I dreamed of having a good job that paid well countless times, but I never had the chance. Now, I was both nervous and excited.I accepted the offer. Tomorrow, I can finally set off. Before I could figure out how to say my goodbyes, my phone rang with a
