Chapter 2

ผู้เขียน: Forester
Father followed my advice and kept the news of me being Volf's arranged mate a secret.

Kael was still busy running around for Lyra's "fate", trying to persuade the elders to cancel the arrangement. He ignored the preparations for our marking ceremony as if they were nothing.

In my past life, I had fought with him countless times over this. I was furious that he cared so much for Lyra and so little for our ceremony. But no matter how much we quarreled, he never gave up on trying to change her fate.

This time, I acted like I knew nothing. I did not get angry, nor did I try to stop him. I stayed quietly in the castle, packing the things I would take with me.

With only two days left before I was to leave, the Night of the Full Moon arrived. Staring at the bright round moon above, I felt a tremor of fear about becoming Volf's arranged mate for the first time.

I knew little about him—only that he was powerful and dangerously possessive. Once I entered the Frostfang pack, would I still be free to hunt as I was now?

Carrying that unease, I went to the pack square, wanting to join one last hunt with the pack.

But as soon as I appeared, Kael arrived with Lyra at his side.

"Loria, I promised Lyra I'd let her join the hunt, but there aren't enough spots left. Could you willingly step back this time?" he asked.

Before I could even speak, Lyra's eyes filled with tears. "Forget it, Kael. Even though this is my last chance to hunt in the Silvermoon pack, since Loria wants to go too, it's okay. Don't make things hard for her."

Kael's temper flared. He glared at me with contempt.

"Loria! Can't you stop being so selfish? You'll have countless chances to hunt in the future, but Lyra's about to leave for the sake of peace between two packs! Can't you let her have this for once?"

In the past, I would have argued fiercely, but now, I simply nodded and stepped back.

"Alright," I responded.

His expression softened at once, a smile breaking across his face. Out of habit, he reached for my hand, intending to kiss the back of it.

"Loria, I knew you'd understand. After all, Lyra is only becoming an arranged mate because we're meant to be together. The least we can do is make it up to her."

I sidestepped and smiled. "You're right, Kael. We should make it up to her."

I slipped off my moonlight cloak and handed it to Lyra. "Wear this in the forest during the hunt. The moonlight cloak can hide your scent, so wild beasts won't track you. You'll be safer this way. I hope you both return unharmed."

"Loria, you'd really give this cloak to Lyra?" Kael's voice was warm with approval. "You've finally grown up. You understand me now. Don't worry, I'll hunt down a deer for you myself."

With great excitement, he draped the cloak around Lyra's shoulders, forgetting completely that it had been the first gift he ever gave me.

I looked one last time at the gathering of werewolves in the square before turning to leave. But Lyra's sudden sobs stopped me.

Her face had gone deathly pale, her breath coming in sharp gasps. She looked as though she were in agony.

"Loria, you knew snowmoon grass would trigger my asthma. Why would you dust the cloak with its powder?"

Kael tore the cloak from her shoulders and threw it to the ground. He gathered her into his arms, eyes fixed on me in bitter disappointment.

"Loria, I thought you'd finally come to your senses, that you understood how much we owed Lyra. Turns out you're still so selfish. She's about to sacrifice everything for our pack, and you would still hurt her like this."

The frost in his gaze overlapped perfectly with the way he had looked at me in my past life.

"If anything happens to Lyra, I'll never forgive you."

It was not true. I wanted to tell him Lyra never had asthma. I had given her a cloak, nothing more. There was no snowmoon grass powder on it.

I reached instinctively toward the torn cloak, but as I drew near, Lyra shrank back in fear.

"Keal, I'm sure Loria didn't mean it. I'm fine. Just put me down. I'll get better once I take some medicine."

Her frail voice made Kael's heart ache. He shoved me aside with sudden force.

"I won't let you hurt her again!" he growled. "Lyra, don't be afraid. I'll protect you."

Holding her close, he carried her away without a single glance at me on the ground.

Only when I caught Lyra's smug eyes peeking over his shoulder did the desire to defend myself drain away.

With my heart finally at peace, I lived well with the Frostfang pack. Memories of my past life began to blur and fade.An urgent message arrived from the other patrols one fine day. Warrior Kael of the Silvermoon pack was forcing his way inside.…By the time I arrived at the scene, Kael was already covered in blood. Yet, through sheer willpower and a reckless blaze of wolf energy that seemed to burn his very life away, he broke through the outer defenses and was still trying to advance further."Kael, stop!" My command cracked through the air. "Do you want to ignite a war between the Frostfang and Silvermoon packs?""Loria!" At the sight of me, it was as if the moonlight fell into his eyes. He staggered forward to my side."Loria, come back with me, please. I've missed you so much."Only a month had passed, yet he was gaunt and hollow-eyed, his face streaked with wounds and exhaustion. Madness flickered in his gaze."Loria, I found out the truth. Lyra never had asthma, and tha

Volf kept his promise. He held a grand marking ceremony for me in the Frostfang pack. Sliding the ring that represented Luna onto my finger before the entire pack, he declared that I shared the same rights as him.He would worry that I might not grow accustomed to the bitter cold of the Frostfang pack's territory, so he went deep into the forests to hunt and brought back the rarest fire crystals, blazing with powerful elemental energy. At night, when I stayed up studying the totemic scripts of the Frostfang pack, he would silently drape a cloak of bearskin over my shoulders. His care was rare and unyielding, just like the aurora in the northern sky. It was direct, impossible to refuse, yet strangely comforting. He was also an exceptional mentor. Volf guided me in managing the pack, showing me how to establish authority quickly. When disagreements arose, he would always listen patiently to my thoughts before sharing his own.Under his guidance, I was no longer the lovestruck gir

While I embarked on a new life, I never knew that losing me had not led Kael to have Lyra as his mate. After being dragged back by Father and the elders, he locked himself in his room, refusing to see anyone. That included Lyra, who wept and tried to comfort him.He could not understand why I, someone who had once loved him so deeply, would be another's mate.Again and again, he recalled the look in my eyes when I left him. That cold gaze was stripped of any trace of love."When did her eyes stop holding love for me?"Fragments of the past kept flashing before him. He remembered how, whenever Lyra and I appeared together, he instinctively assumed I would bully her. He thought back to every explanation I tried to give, only for him to cut me off. He recalled how every time Lyra's trembling voice stirred his anger and accusations against me."I only thought Lyra was fragile, someone who needed protection. I had always loved Loria. Why couldn't she understand that?" Clutching hi

Kael only realized I was truly leaving him when I set off with the Frostfang envoys."Loria! I forbid you to leave!"His anguished roars tore through the air. He tried to chase forward, but Father and the elders forced him down. All he could do was hurl desperate cries at my retreating figure."Loria, I'll bring you back! Wait for me!"After two lifetimes of torment and despair, his regret and pain that came too late were no more than dust to me now. They stirred nothing inside.I did not look back, and my steps grew lighter."He must have regretted it. If you return now, Ms. Loria, there's still time to complete the marking ceremony with him."A cold voice cut in from beside me.I turned and pulled back the hood of his cloak. "Handing your mate to another, that doesn't sound like the Alpha Volf I've heard of."The face revealed carried a crushing weight beneath the pale winter sun. His silver hair and glacial blue eyes made it clear who he was—Volf Frostfang, the Alpha of the

In that instant, all sound in the square vanished. Even the wind seemed frozen still. The mocking sneers from moments ago were now swallowed by shock.Color drained from Kael's face. The fury that had filled his eyes a second ago shattered, leaving nothing but disbelief and confusion."No… Impossible…" His voice came out dry and rough, like sand against stone. His brows furrowed as he stared at me. "You loved me so much. How could you be someone else's mate?"Then, as if struck by a sudden revelation, disgust twisted across his expression. "I see, Loria. You're angry because I made you apologize to Lyra. You did this to force me to give in, didn't you?"How laughable. How familiar. In his world, I would forever be trapped in the frame of being selfish and of being cruel to Lyra. No matter what I did, it would always be twisted into some persecution against her.It had been that way in my last life. It was still the same now.A wave of exhaustion swallowed me whole, drowning eve

The next time I saw Kael was next evening. When his eyes fell on the wound on my hand, he tensed. "Loria, what happened? Did you hurt your hand?"He had no idea that while Lura was unscathed, I had bled because of him. Still, I knew that even if I told him, he would not care. He would only accuse me of lying.I pulled back before his hand could reach mine and brushed it off casually. "It's nothing. Just a scratch.""As long as you're fine." He nodded. "There's something I need to spill."He hesitated for a moment before continuing, "What you did to Lyra today was overboard. Even though she insists she doesn't mind, I believe you owe her a proper apology. Do it tomorrow, before our marking ceremony in front of the elders and all the warriors. "Apologize sincerely, and don't worry. She's so kind. She will forgive you."An apology to Lyra? My mind recalled the promise he had once made to me in my past life. "Loria, no matter what happens, I'll always protect you. I'll always
