LOGINMy heart slammed so hard in my chest that I swore the entire vehicle could hear it.
“Are you alright?” Micah asked, his voice luring me out of my reverie, and I could only nod. “It will be fine; we are very welcoming in my pack.” Yeah, welcoming, just what I wanted. Only I could wake up more the next morning to see that they were driving a stake through my heart. “Yes. I am ready to meet your pack.” The lie slid out easily from my mouth, my heart more than willing to back it up. I was a likeable person after all. Thalia and Theo—even though the thought of him still hurt—could testify, and his pack would have no choice but to adore me. Micah stepped out of the car, and within seconds, the door to my side opened, and I stepped out, marching on the steady ground. I closed my eyes, taking in a deep breath, inhaling what will now be home. There was a peace and serenity that attacked my senses, the trees swaying gently as the breeze blew across us. A scent of belonging circled me so strongly that my lips curled in a smile. This was truly home. Releasing another breath, I opened my eyes, taking in the sight before me. Bungalows littered the sides of the tarred road, each painted in the same milk color and with a red terraced roof. People went about their way, both man and wolf, moving as though they were one family. Often, they paused to talk, their loud voices and laughter booming across the street. It wasn’t difficult to notice the differences between us. Their skin was tanned, the color more warm-like. The females had dresses that flowed to the floor, sewn with animal skin, while some had the Western influence on them: linen, silk, and all kinds of fabric. It was weird to see how seamlessly they blended modernization with their own identity. “Alpha!” A young male yelled, his body bare with only shorts hanging on his waist, and he ran towards us. His screams had attracted the rest of the pack, and their heads turned towards us. A beat went over the crowd, and in a twinkling of an eye, we were surrounded by an overly cheerful pack, happy for the return of their alpha. “Welcome back.” Their voice echoed haphazardly as they continued to press against him, wanting to get their scent on him. My wolf snarled inside me, her claws raking at my insides as their hands brushed over him, but I took a deep breath to calm her down. I had to remind myself and her that he was, after all, their alpha, and they were just happy he was back. I moved a few feet away instead, enough that I wouldn’t be so annoyed about the exchange but still close enough to see all that was going on, and I observed them. Micah moved among them like a Messiah, his touch and words igniting light in their eyes whenever he asked a personal question. I found myself nodding. Indeed, he was the very definition of a good leader. Again, I had nothing but praise for the goddess for blessing me with such a man. I only had to ensure nothing was going to ruin it. I stood watching the exchange like the outsider that I was. A few offered fleeting looks, but never enough to pique their interest. Most dismissed me with just a sweep of their gaze, but it was fine with me. Micah’s head snapped toward me, catching the annoyance etched on my face. He gave me a pleading look, as if to say, ‘I will take care of this.’ Somehow, he managed it, and before I knew it, we had slipped free of the crowd and were standing inside one of the five bedrooms in his home. “This will be our room.” He announced with a slightly raised shoulder, his tone tainted with pride. “Our?” My gaze swept across the spacious room. It was almost bare save for the furniture, and there were no electronics in sight except for a table in the corner where a laptop sat. Behind the bed hung a painted portrait of Micah, dressed in wolf fur. The wide windows opened to a clear view of the pack, the land stretching out like it belonged to him. His hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer to him. “Did you think I would let you out of my sight, mate?” His voice had dropped to a deathly low tone, one that was igniting molten fire inside of me. “N-no, I was o-only.” I suddenly found myself tongue-tied, his effect too great on me. “There are many things I wish to do to you.” He said, his gaze fixed on my lips. Without thinking, my tongue darted out, wetting both lips. Micah’s throat bobbed as he worked it to swallow, his eyes slowly leaving my lips only to drift lower until they settled on the swell of my breast. I swallowed painfully, the air growing thick, making it almost impossible to breathe. “What do you wish to do?” I heard a wanton voice that sounded oddly like mine asked. The invitation lay bare for him to see. His fingers traced over the exposed curve of my breast, each touch leaving a trail of fire in its wake. “I would feast on these until they can harden at my command.” Flames shot to my core, my thighs rubbing against each other. My body betrayed me, doing just as he had said. “I would love that.” The voice whispered again, so thickened with lust that it filled the air, and Micah wasn’t left either. His eyes were narrowed in slits, the brown orbs growing darker as his gaze raked over me, and my legs threatened to buckle underneath me. “But that will have to wait; we have a party to attend.” He said, and the effect was like cold water pouring down on me. I blinked, struggling to calm the parts of me that longed to devour him. I haven’t even had a chance to taste his lips, a fact I silently cursed myself for, but there would be time for that later. For now, it was time I got acquainted with my new pack and put on the best behavior worthy of a Luna. Later, I would explore every inch of him as I desired. So help me, goddess.“We are here.” Rowan announced over the soft noise of the music from the radio, and I tried to look at the ‘here’ through the window. It was a tall white building, its many floors impossible to count from inside the car, but from what little I could see, it was beautiful.Rowan opened his door and came out, coming to mine, and he opened it, helping me out. My breath hitched, not from the sparks or electricity running through us, but from a familiarity that felt dangerously inviting, and I took another deep breath.Goddess, help me.He gave his keys to the valet, and we entered the building, straight to an elevator.I stood rigid as the elevator began to move, my heart racing so loud I could hear it. Despite that I was a wolf, I had a phobia of heights, and it was even worse that I was in an enclosed metal contraption that was going as fast as it could, yet there seemed to be no end.“Are you alright?” Rowan’s voice broke through the daze, and I stared at him with wide eyes.“Hmm?” My
Somehow, the month had flown by in a flurry of activities, most of them far too loud for me, but I endured it for the extra cash. The overly bright decoration, annoying music about a fucking sleigh, and even annoying humans scattered about in red, white, and green clothes were too much, but I had passed through the hurdle. And overall, it had been a great month, with a lot of tips, and right now I was standing in front of my wardrobe, not that it could be called so. The dark brown construction was already falling apart, the door barely closed, and it only contained a few of my clothes. My eyes scanned what little I had, trying to find a suitable outfit that would fit the party. I mean, what do humans even wear when they go to parties?I wouldn’t want to stand out too much, especially with so many of them there, and I wanted to enjoy myself without worrying about what I had on.An annoyed sigh left my lips, and I padded to my bed, reaching for my phone that was lying in the middle, and
I froze as I felt the foreign sensation on my lips. It was warm and inviting, but when the soft press of his lips on mine finally registered, my hands came between us, and I pushed him off gently.“You can’t do that.” I croaked out in a voice that betrayed what I was feeling. But what exactly was I feeling? However, Rowan's voice broke the daze before I could contemplate it too much. “I am sorry; I was carried away.” He apologized, but there was a mischievous glint in his eyes that may as well have said he was not at all sorry, and I wasn’t sure what to feel.“Y-yea.” I croaked, but I cleared my throat, blinking as if to clear the coating of redness that had spread on my cheeks, and I waved it aside. “It is alright; let us just go.”We walked side by side, the silence thick enough for a knife to slice through, but I was too in my head to care about it. Why the hell would he kiss me? The thought kept running through my head, yet no answers were forthcoming, and I blew a breath of frus
I was excited, oddly enough. It was weird that I was going out with someone I barely knew a week ago, and it was even weirder that I had never stepped out of the regular cycle of work and home.Yet here I was excited to go on a date with a man. Okay, it wasn’t a date; we were only going to get a phone together, and it was enough for me to shiver in my boots.By 3pm, I was ready, dressed in one of my new acquisitions: black jeans with thigh-high boots, a wine sleeveless top, and a woolen sweater. Nothing too much, but not so bad that I end up looking like a slob. I ran a tube of red lipstick on my lips, took one look at it in the hand mirror I had, and swiped my palm at it.I shouldn’t be doing too much; after all, it wasn’t a date. We were just going to get a phone for myself.Right on cue, a knock sounded on my door, causing my heart to skip a beat despite itself, and I held a palm to the treacherous organ, willing it to be still.I rose, picking up the small mirror I kept on the be
Rowan froze mid-scroll the moment he saw me, his phone instantly forgotten. He raised his eyes to meet mine, pressing the power button without taking his gaze away.A gasp caught in my throat as those brown eyes beheld me, the truth in them almost frightening. Hastily, I placed the tray down, putting down his food, and he offered me a smile, one that made the side of his eyes crinkle.“This looks good.” He said, nodding in approval, and I beamed, standing straighter.“It even tastes better.” I replied, and he gave me a small smile before taking a fork and picking up the pasta. I watched as he brought it to his mouth, his eyes widening as he got a first taste, and I almost pumped my fist in the air at his reaction.“You like it?”Rowan chewed slowly, savoring every bite, and he shook his head. “I lovee it.” He drawled, his voice excited and slightly high, and my smile widened even more.I gave myself a mental pat on the back. The creamy tomato rigatoni could never go wrong, not with th
My breath hitched at the reason he had come, though I wasn’t sure I truly hated the way it made me feel. However, I drew in a slow breath, schooled my face, and positioned my pen ready to take his order.“What would you like?” I asked, keeping my voice steady so I didn’t give anything away, and his eyes racked through me slowly, as if I were the menu.My skin bristled, and I was unsure what to feel when he stared at me like I was the only thing that mattered, but thank the goddess for the notepad in my hands, and I clutched it hard as I waited for him.“Hmmm.” He hummed, running a hand over his jaw as his long fingers flexed slightly. For a man, his fingers were well manicured, no cuticle in sight, trimmed short even and I nodded in approval. At least he was neat. “Surprise me.”“Surprise you?” My eyebrow pulled together, and I tilted my head. “I am no chef; I am just a server.” I reminded him, but his lips had pulled slightly in a grin, and he shrugged.“It doesn’t matter; you are th
