Chapter 4

Author: Mini Min
"Human organ transaction in any form is a serious crime; you know that, right?"

I nodded. "I know it's illegal and definitely shouldn't be done on a public online platform." If it weren't illegal, the system wouldn't have asked me to post it.

Clara frowned after reading the screenshot. "I didn't post that."

She shot me a cold glance that could freeze.

"Still denying it, huh?" The officer slammed the table impatiently.

"Take a look at this, posted by one of your company's employees online last night. You openly asked a doctor to draw other people's blood to transfuse to Maxey Tyler, and even used money to induce people to donate blood. Don't you know that's illegal too?!"

Clara pursed her lips. "But it didn't end up happening."

The officer sneered. "But you had the intention. You attempted to do it."

Just then, another officer brought Maxey in.

He held her in his arms, all teary-eyed.

"Clara, are you okay? It's all my fault. If I were healthy, none of this would have happened."

Behind her was a familiar female officer. She frowned when she saw Clara and I.

"Investigate this case thoroughly. The relationship of this married couple is abnormal. This can't be treated as a simple disturbance of public order."

Seeing Clara about to be handcuffed, Maxey panicked and stood in front of the police. "Clara didn't commit any crime!"

When the police tried to pull him away, he blurted out in panic, "I'm not sick! I don't need a kidney transplant, so she couldn't have been buying organs!"

When Clara heard that, she abruptly stood up. "You're not sick?! But didn't you go abroad because you were sick? You said your family forced you to..."

"I was cured!" Realizing what he had said, Maxey quickly backtracked. "I was fully cured when I was abroad!"

I watched coldly, my emotion calm.

Maxey had gone abroad immediately after learning of the Peyton family's bankruptcy, claiming it was for treatment.

Now, it was clear to everyone that it was just an excuse.

Clara's lawyer arrived. Thanks to his efforts, Clara was released after paying a fine.

She remained silent the entire way home.

I sat in the passenger seat and saw Maxey cautiously touching the back of her hand in the rearview mirror.

"Clara, I didn't mean to hide it from you. I really did get cured overseas, you can check!"

His eyes welled up.

"I only lied to you because I wanted to test if you still cared about me. If you hate me, you can hit me."

"Stop talking nonsense. I'll never hit you!" Clara held his hand back.

I turned away.

The system gave me an order in my head. "When you get out of the car, take Clara's phone."

I did not argue even though it was practically stealing.

In the rearview mirror, I saw Clara check her phone at Maxey's prompting. She then looked up and glanced at me in the passenger seat. After hesitating for a moment, she nodded.

The driver dropped Maxey off at his place first, then headed towards our residence.

As soon as I got out, I tapped Clara on the shoulder. "A bug!"

When she turned around, I swiped the phone from her pocket.

She turned back to the driver and told him to send all the servants away.

"I need to have a talk with my husband."

I quickly glanced at her phone. The latest message was from Maxey.

"Jason must be behind everything that happened today. You have to teach him a lesson. Lock him in the house and get some guys to scare him."

I finally understood. That was what Clara had nodded and agreed to earlier.

The system asked me, "Do you know what to do this time?"

I nodded. Once all the servants left, I followed Clara into the house.

She turned around. Just as she said, "I'm going out for a..." I kicked her in the knee.

Before she could react, I ran through the front door and slammed it shut!

I smiled nonchalantly. "He's still your friend, isn't he? Why don't you want to see him? Is it because you feel guilty?"Clara replied in a deep voice, "I don't want to argue with you."Without a second glance at Maxey, she turned and walked away.Seeing this, Maxey approached me with an unpleasant expression."Jason, are you trying to stir trouble between us again? Is this amusing to you?"I smiled mockingly. "Considering the state of your relationship, do I even need to do that?"He gritted his teeth in anger and signaled a waiter to bring him two glasses of wine.I observed him without showing any emotion. The glass of wine he held in his right hand had a very subtle, unnatural scratch on the base.He handed me the marked glass of wine. The dark red liquid glowed ominously in the dim light.I smiled and turned to Clara. She had just finished a round of greetings, showing fatigue between her brows. As I approached, her expression softened a little. "What's the matter?"

She tried to move her right hand, but the intense pain made her groan, and the veins on her forehead bulged."My hand might be crippled."She said those words very softly, but they descended like a heavy hammer."Go home." She closed her eyes again, her voice sounding extremely tired. "I want to be alone.""Clara...""Go home."Clara's tone was cold and undeniable. She refused to communicate with him.Looking at her face, a poisonous fire mixed with fear, resentment, and jealousy surged in Maxey's heart. He shot me a fierce glare, then turned and left.As soon as the hospital room door closed, Clara turned to me.Her voice was hoarse. "Jason, I'm sorry. I was confused. I thought Maxey was still the same person he was before. I shouldn't have brought up divorce."I interrupted her. "There's no point saying these things now."Watching her argue with Maxey, I finally understood why there was only peaceful companionship between me and her.Without love, there was no hate.I s

"If you hadn't locked her in the house, none of this would have happened!"I stared at the screen expressionlessly."You're the one who hired those guys, Mr. Tyler.""I was there just now. I heard your conversation with them."He was typing for a long time, but in the end, he didn't send anything.I called the police."I want to report a crime. A person had hired thugs to assault someone. The address is..."By the time I finished giving my statement and left the police station, it was almost dark.I drove straight to the hospital and found Maxey crying his eyes out outside the operating room. When he saw me, he lunged at me like a madman."Jason, how dare you show your face here! It's all your fault, all your fault!"I sidestepped; he stumbled and hit the wall."The police came to see you, right?" I asked calmly. "Hiring thugs to assault someone is a crime. What's Clara's condition, a minor injury or a serious one? If it's a serious injury, how many years do you think you'l

Maxey's composure shattered instantly. He pushed open the car door and rushed out, almost twisting his ankle in his haste."Stop! Everybody, stop!"He frantically pounded on the door, but the door, locked from the inside, wouldn't budge. The chaotic sounds inside drowned out his shouts.Trembling, Maxey fumbled for his phone to call the police. Then, a thought struck him, and he hesitantly put the phone down. His mind went blank. He only had one thought: the person inside was Clara. It shouldn't have been like this. How could it be Clara?!Another suppressed cry of pain came from behind the thick door, making Maxey's heart break."Stop hitting her! I'll pay you double! No, ten times! Just stop!"He frantically banged on the door, screaming hysterically. The people inside seemed to finally hear the commotion outside, and the smashing stopped for a moment.A rough voice shouted, "Who's out there? Shut up!""It's me, Maxey! You've got the wrong person! My girlfriend is in

Clara winced in pain and staggered, grabbing the door to steady herself. Disbelief and anger flashed within her eyes, as if she had never known me. "Jason, you’ve truly lost it! Because I let you off the last time you slapped me, I must have given you the wrong impression that I would put up with anything you do! Open the door!"I ignored her and locked the door with the key as the system instructed. The key dug into my palm, but I did not dare hesitate for even a second. After all, if I did not sabotage myself, I really would die.I turned around and retrieved the item that Clara had asked the driver to buy from the car.In the plastic bag was a bicycle lock.Clara was unlocking the door from the inside.Sweating nervously, I quickly threaded the bicycle lock through the two handles of the mansion's front door and locked it tightly. With this, the door could not be opened from the inside.Clara was furious, veins bulging on her forehead. She kicked the door. "Open it now!
