MasukWhen I finally arrived at Lucian's room, I found him sitting on the couch with a history book in his hands. He was reading about the creation of werewolves and Lycans. The werewolves were the oldest creatures the moon goddess created, before she made the humans. After both, she decided to improve on her creation of werewolves, and so the Lycans were born into the world. After the goddess departed, evil soon grew in the minds of the Lycans, year after year. Hungry for power, they fought to overthrow the werewolves.Lucian slowly lifted his eyes for a moment before closing the book. "What is wrong with you?" he asked after staring at me for several moments."I told you just this morning to meet me here, and this is the time you decided to show up?""Oh. The Princess sent me on an urgent errand to the market. She told me it was important."Lucian's eyes narrowed. "You need to be careful.""About going to the market?""With the Princess. Sylvia.""Do you have a reason?" I asked.A small f
The market was crowded as we made our way back to the carriage with guards trailing behind us.I glanced over my shoulder to find them discussing amongst each other. Ever since one of the girls attempted to escape, King Malric introduced a new law. The new law required us to be accompanied by guards whenever we left the palace. Apparently, he wasn't willing to risk another incident. After punishing the girl beyond recognition, I haven't seen or heard from her again. My gaze travelled to the buildings lining the street and stated at the several notices had been plastered against the walls. As I looked at the posters, one particular drawing caught my attention. Underneath it was a bold heading. WANTED.I slowed down, studying the face of the man in the sketch."Who is that?" I turned to Astrid. She slowly followed my gaze to the wall. “A royal guard. The King recently discovered he was conspiring with the werewolf rebels."I looked at her, then back at the drawing."Can we talk here?"
“He’s magnificent, don’t you think?” Astrid asked, her attention focused on the arena. I was barely listening to her as I stared at Lucian with memories flooding my head. I remembered his touch, his voice, and the way he had looked at me. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't seem to forget it.“Honestly, I’ve never seen anyone as beautiful as the Prince,” Astrid continued.“He’s a Lycan,” I reminded her quietly.“Yes, and it’s unfortunate, considering the amount of blood on his hands. But I bet that werewolf will be the end of him tonight, unless the King intervenes.”Upon hearing her, I turned my attention to the royal seats. My gaze fell on the king sitting beside his wife, the Queen, while the Princess, Sylvia, occupied the seat closer to them. Sylvia's gaze was fixed on the Prince, her attention filled with fascination.I looked back at the arena.Lucian stood underneath the afternoon sun, his golden skin marked with silver scars. His broad shoulders and muscular frame made him
By the time Lyra and I returned from the market, we were informed that we had only five minutes to get ready and make our way to the imperial arena. The imperial arena was the place where fights between two or more people hosted by the royals for entertainment often took place.I barely had time to put away the things we had bought before rushing to take a bath. I scrubbed the dust from my skin, changed into a fresh dress, and hurried out with Lyra. The arena was already crowded when we got there. It was surrounded by rows upon rows of stone seats with people slowly settling in to watch the day's entertainment. The noise was loud with a mixture of excitement and cheers from those who came early. Finding an empty seat, I sat into it with Lyra somewhere close. I turned to the girl sitting beside me and as she lifted her head from her hands, she caught my attention. There was something about her face that felt familiar, and I found myself observing her for a moment before recognition fi
When we arrived at the market, we stepped down from the carriage, holding the baskets. “Today will be different,” Lyra murmured to me as we started walking towards the market. “We aren't going for household shopping today. The Princess sent us here to get some things for her.” It was only after we ventured further inside the market that I realized this was a different part of the capital's market. It was populated entirely by Lycans. It had been opened after the war between the two races, with prices so high that only the Lycans could afford them. Werewolves stopped coming because of the cost, and after a while it became known as the capital market for Lycans. “Well. But do we need to come here?” I asked. I had only come here once, a long time ago, and since then I had vowed never to set foot here again. The discrimination from the Lycans had been too much. If you weren't clever enough, you would be framed for something you didn't do, and the Lycans would of course side with their o
Lucian. Where had he come from? Had he been following me around for some time now? Without realizing it, I pushed at him when the bond surged and began to tug me closer to him. I immediately regretted it when the guards snapped their attention to me sternly. They were watching, and if Lucian and I were different people, he would have had every right to slap me for pushing at him, because to him I was a breeding slave and I had no power over him. But I was already tired of everything. The weakness that had been weighing me down since this morning took over my entire body. I was sweating profusely and felt nauseous. My body trembled even under the sun. I was sick. "What are you doing here?" he asked. "The Princess sent me to fetch some sand." At the mention of Sylvia, his brows furrowed and he parted his lips to say something. After a while, he shook his head and turned to me. "You look very sick," he murmured. "Come on. Let me take you to your room." "No. I need to give Sy
