Chapter 4

Author: Pantaloon
My aggressive aura made Lynn flinch.

She didn't expect I could be so fierce.

She bit her lip and talked back, "I'm just speaking the truth. If you can't even handle these straightforward facts, how can you be a shareholder in the company?"

She paused, glancing at me, then continued, "I've known Lorenzo since we were kids. We grew up together. He has always said he'll marry only me. Why can't I have a say?"

Her eyes flicked to something behind me.

Before I could respond, she put on a pitiful expression. "I'm just thinking about the company. If you're still not happy with me, then fire me."

"Who is gonna fire you with me here?" Lorenzo walked out of the private room, his presence cold.

He shot me an icy glance. "Lynn is just a young girl, far from home working here. Can you ease up on that high-and-mighty attitude of yours and not take it out on her? If you've got issues or aren't happy about something, you can take it up with me. Don't make Lynn the target!"

I felt a surge of frustration. He didn't even ask; he just assumed I was the bad person.

I closed my eyes, forced myself to swallow the bitterness, and let out a deep breath. "Aren't you even going to ask why I want to fire her?"

I expected him to at least ask and try to understand, but instead, he scoffed, "With that bossy attitude of yours, what's there to ask? Lynn is timid, and she's had a tough life. She came here all alone, and I'm the only family she has. I won't let you hurt her."

Lynn tugged at his sleeve and bit her lip. "Please, don't fight with Stella. You two worked hard to build this company. If she wants to fire me, I'm sure she has her reasons. No one's ever liked me since I was a kid. I've gotten used to it. I'll resign tomorrow. I don't want to trouble you anymore."

"No way, I won't allow it!" Lorenzo said, his eyes flickering with pity.

I caught it, realizing everything Lynn said earlier was true.

Lorenzo glared at me, his voice cold and sharp. "You should apologize to Lynn!"

I stared at him in disbelief. "Why should I? I didn't do anything wrong."

He grabbed my wrist, pulling me forcefully in front of Lynn.

I lost my balance and stumbled, kneeling on the floor in humiliation, but he didn't relent.

"Hurry up and apologize to Lynn," he demanded. "My patience is limited. Don't make me use force."

I looked up and met his cold, emotionless gaze.

I couldn't understand how someone who once made promises to me could change so easily.

For another woman, he could be so ruthless with me.

"Given in. Lorenzo will be harsh with you for my sake," Lynn whispered with a smug smile.

I shut my eyes, refusing to utter a sound, but Lorenzo's hand slowly rested on my hair.

In that instant, I could feel the excruciating pain as he yanked my hair up. It felt like my scalp was being pulled off.

Just then, a voice came, "What a temper! Treating your partner like that."

A figure emerged from the next room, standing in front of me.

He grabbed Lorenzo's hand and looked at me, taking in my sorry state.

In the days that followed, Lorenzo didn't show up again. It wasn't until my wedding day that he appeared in a groom's suit.Through the crowd, he staggered toward me, holding the diamond ring he had promised to buy years ago."Stella, look! I bought the ring! We can get married. We can," he said, breathless.I snorted, glancing at the ring in his hand.I raised my hand and showed him the one already sparkling on my finger—bigger and more dazzling than his."Why would I ever give up this ring for you?" I scoffed. He crumpled, like all the life had drained out of him.He sank to the ground, mumbling to himself, "How could this happen? You gave up on me?"Lynn burst in, looking frantic. She grabbed Lorenzo by the arm, her face twisted with anger, and screamed at the top of her lungs. "You still like this woman, don't you? Didn't you say it was just a fling? You told me I was your one true love. You promised me you'd marry me the night we slept together."The room went silent. E

Preparations for my wedding started falling into place naturally. The house was buzzing with excitement as my friends and family began receiving their invitations.Even the windows were decorated beautifully. When Lorenzo found me, I was decorating the door."Stella, what are you doing?" he asked.I turned around and saw his haggard face.It had been half a month since I last saw him, and he looked much thinner.I wondered how he had even found out where I lived."Long time no see," I said, having imagined many scenarios where we'd meet again. But when I finally faced him, I felt nothing. It was like meeting a stranger I used to know.He staggered over to me, his eyes wide with shock as he looked at the decorations. His expression was a mix of fear and hope."Is someone in your family getting married? Congratulations!" he said.I calmed the few ripples in my heart, offering him a slight smile. "As I told you, I'm getting married. But thanks for your congratulations."The

When the plane landed, I stepped out and saw Jasper, whom I had just met yesterday. He was dressed in a black cashmere coat, tall and lean, standing there with an unreadable expression on his face. But when he saw me walking out, the cold air around him seemed to dissipate, and there was a subtle warmth to it.Before I could react, he was already walking toward me. He took my suitcase, slipped off his coat, and draped it over my shoulders."The weather is colder here. You should wear more," he said gently.I nodded, a little dumbfounded. I wasn't sure what to say.I just lowered my head, glancing at this aloof man out of the corner of my eye. But inside, I felt a warm sensation. It was the kind of warmth I'd always wanted. After Jasper dropped me off at my place, I hesitated, thinking it over again and again.I couldn't bring myself to invite him in. When I looked at him, he didn't seem to care at all.He just softly reassured me, "Rest well. I'll come back tomorrow to ask for

After leaving the restaurant, I declined Jasper's offer to see me off and took a taxi home instead. This so-called "home" was actually the apartment we had rented right after graduation. When I decided to be with Lorenzo, I begged my mom to lend me money and bought this place without telling him.I remembered the day everything came out. Lorenzo choked up, holding me tightly and swearing he would never betray me.The memories came rushing back. I laughed bitterly as I tossed the tie on the table into the trash. It was a seven-year anniversary gift I'd bought for him not long ago. It was not needed now.Determined to leave, I started packing my things. I took everything I could and tossed out what I couldn't.I didn't want to leave behind any silly memories or let anything that once belonged to me have a second owner.I ran up and down the stairs with my suitcase twice. By the time I returned, panting, Lorenzo came back, holding a wrapped gift box.Looking guilty, he stood i

Jasper Koch gently pushed Lorenzo aside and carefully helped me up."I didn't know about your bad temper, Mr. Townsend," he said. "Looks like I'll need to reconsider our cooperation."I wasn't sure if it was just my imagination, but when he helped me up, I saw a fleeting cold look in his eyes. It almost seemed like he was standing up for me.Before I could say anything, Lorenzo's expression shifted.I had heard of Jasper. He was the CEO of the Koch Group, and right now, the company's priority was to secure a major deal that could take them public.Lorenzo had been working hard to connect with the Koch Group for a while, hoping to land a big deal. But today, things went wrong."Mr. Koch, you misunderstood. There's just some tension between employees. I'm just mediating the situation," Lorenzo stammered, trying to butter up Jasper.Lynn chimed in, "Mr. Koch, please don't blame Mr. Townsend. It's my fault. I made Stella angry, and things got out of hand. I hope you won't hold it ag
