Chapter 1

작가: Crystal K
My daughter was killed by rogues. I’ve had the same nightmare for three months.

"No, please, don't—"

I shot up in bed, my chest heaving.

The sheets were soaked. My heart was trying to hammer its way out of my ribs.

The image came back.

Aria, lying in a pool of blood. Silver had torn through her chest. Her golden wolf, her very soul, seeped from the wound in her chest.

"Mom..." She grabbed my hand with her last bit of strength. "I'm sorry... I couldn't protect myself..."

"Selena?"

Kael’s voice came from the doorway.

He rushed to the bed, his eyes filled with worry.

"The same dream?" He sat on the edge, reaching for my hand.

I pulled my arm back. After the nightmare, I couldn't stand anyone's touch. Not even his.

"I should have waited for you," I whispered, hugging my knees. My voice was hoarse. "If I'd waited for you and the guards, if I wasn't in such a rush—"

"No. It wasn't your fault." Kael's voice was soft and gentle. "It was mine. I was swamped with Pack emergencies. I should have postponed those meetings. I should have been with you."

He reached out to touch my hair, but I flinched away again.

"It's been three months, Selena." He sighed, a deep, heavy sound. "You can't keep torturing yourself like this."

I looked at him. The man I once loved with all my heart.

He had dark circles under his eyes. He hadn't shaved. He looked just as tormented as I felt.

"The Pack doctor says your wolf is fading," he continued, anxiety lacing his voice. "If you don't pull yourself out of this—"

"I know." I stood and walked to the window. "The Void," I whispered. "It's what happens when a wolf loses their family."

Moonlight streamed through the glass.

I remembered how Aria loved to shift on nights like this. How she loved to run under the moon.

I hugged Kael and told him not to worry. But inside, I made a decision. I was going back to the island.

I had to build a memorial for her. In her favorite place.

That cliffside garden... She used to say the moonpetal flowers looked like stars that had fallen from the sky.

But I couldn't tell Kael.

He was so stressed with Pack business. I couldn't be weak in front of him anymore.

Every time I broke down, I saw the pity and exhaustion in his eyes. It made me feel ashamed.

He'd already lost a daughter. He didn't need a broken mate, too.

The next day, I took a private jet to the island.

As the plane got closer, the wolf inside me started to growl.

It was scared.

We were both scared.

I clutched the last photo I had of Aria.

It was from her 18th birthday. Her smile was like sunshine.

"Ma'am, we're about to land," the pilot said over the intercom.

I took a deep breath.

The island’s silhouette grew clearer in the moonlight. I could see the cliff. Aria’s favorite spot.

"She always said she wanted to build a little cabin there," I whispered to the photo. "So she could watch the sunrise every day."

The plane landed smoothly. I told the pilot I wanted to go alone and walked toward the cliff.

But I heard something I shouldn't have.

The roar of machinery.

The growl of engines.

My heart hammered against my ribs. I broke into a run, scrambling up the slope.

I reached the cliff's edge. What I saw shattered my world.

Bulldozers were leveling the land.

An excavator's giant claws ripped through the soil, tearing up flowers and roots.

The moonpetal garden I had designed for Aria was being destroyed.

"Stop!" I screamed, running at the nearest worker. "What are you doing?!"

A foreman in a reflective vest turned around. He looked awkward when he saw me.

"You are...?"

"I'm Selena! This was my daughter's garden!" I pointed at the uprooted moonpetals, tears streaming down my face. "You have no right to touch this place!"

"Oh, you're Alpha Kael's mate." He took off his hard hat, his expression shifting to one of respect. "My apologies, ma'am. But we're on a strict deadline. This training ground has to be finished by next month."

My blood ran cold.

"What training ground?"

"A private training facility for young werewolves." He unrolled a blueprint. "State-of-the-art equipment. A full strength-conditioning system. Lady Isabella explained her son, Leo, is frail. He needs this place to build his strength."

Every word was a hammer blow to my heart.

"Lady Isabella?" My voice trembled.

The foreman looked confused. "You didn't know? The lady... she said her son, Leo, is frail. He needs this place to get stronger."

The world spun.

Isabella. The name was a venomous snake slithering through my mind.

Kael's ex-lover.

What right did she have to give orders about my daughter's island?

Selena’POVThree days later. The High Council of the Northern Packs. In the silver, circular hall, twelve elders sat on a high dais. They were the most powerful figures in the werewolf world, each the head of an ancient and powerful bloodline.I stood in the center, facing their questioning gazes."Selena Moonshadow," the Chief Elder's voice echoed through the hall. "You have requested an emergency tribunal. On what grounds?""Murder," I said, my voice clear and steady. "Alpha Kael of the Black Moon Pack murdered my daughter, Aria."A murmur went through the crowd.Kael's reputation was immense. No one wanted to believe such an accusation."Do you have proof?" another elder asked.I held up a data slate."I have complete testimonies and video evidence."The giant screen in the hall lit up.First came the confessions of the six rogues. On camera, they detailed the entire plan: the fake attack, the delivery of the body, the handover to the dark sorcerer. Then came the video. When the ima

Kael's POVI walked toward the medical center, carrying a bowl of hot calming broth. It had been three weeks.Same time, same routine, same devoted care.Selena's memory was still fragmented. But at least she wasn't asking about Aria's death anymore. She wasn't crying herself to sleep. The doctor said she was getting better.I told myself the same thing."Good afternoon, Alpha," the nurse greeted me respectfully."Is Selena in?""She said she wanted to rest. She asked not to be disturbed." The nurse replied. "She's been in her room since last night."I frowned. That wasn't like her. Not lately."I'll just check on her."I walked to her room and knocked gently."Selena? It's me. I brought you some broth."No answer."Selena?" I pushed the door open. The room was empty. The blankets on the bed were neatly folded, as if no one had slept there. The window was wide open, the curtains fluttering in the breeze.Just then, a searing pain ripped through my chest. I almost collapsed. The bowl cr

The legacy of a family of healers. A silver light enveloped me, masking my scent.Kael would never know. The mate he always underestimated possessed a power so ancient and strong.I vanished into the night.Three days later. Las Vegas.A city of neon lights, where humans and werewolves lived side-by-side."Caesars Palace, penthouse suite," the bounty hunter's voice crackled over the phone. "Six targets. All accounted for.""Good." I stood on the roof of a building across the street, watching. "Proceed as planned."Eight guards stood behind me.They were my family's elite, their loyalty absolute."Ma'am, when do we move?" the

"You killed my daughter."My voice was a whisper from hell, each word dripping with blood.Kael scrambled back, his eyes wide with terror. "Selena, let me explain—""Explain?" I lunged forward and wrapped my hand around his throat, my nails digging into his skin. "Explain how you murdered my child?""I didn't murder her!" Kael choked out, struggling for air. "Aria was dying! The silver bullet hit her heart. She was going to die anyway!""So you took her wolf spirit while she was still alive?" My grip tightened. "You let her die in even more agony?""I was saving Leo!" Kael's face turned purple."Aria was your daughter!""Wasn't she adopted by us? She wasn't my blood!" Kael finally roared the truth. "Her spirit could save Leo. That was the only thing she was good for!"I let go. I stumbled back, staring at this stranger."Eighteen years." My voice shook. "We raised her for eighteen years.""We can raise Leo as our own," Kael gasped, rubbing his throat. "Isabella is willing to let me ado

I threw open the door to Aria's room. The sight before me made my heart stop.It was a wasteland. The silk sheets on the bed were shredded. The vanity mirror was shattered on the floor. But the worst part was the glittering fragments scattered across the carpet.Aria's memorial necklace. The one made from her first baby tooth, set with a moonstone.Smashed.Crushed underfoot."No..." I dropped to my knees, my hands trembling as I tried to pick up the pieces. In the corner, the hand-stitched ceremonial gown was torn to ribbons.A Pack elder had spent six months on that gown. Every stitch was a blessing."How dare you...""Selena?" Isabella's voice came from the doorway.I turned, my eyes burning with murderous rage."Did you do this?""Oh, that junk?" Isabella said dismissively, her tone laced with disgust. "Leo was just playing and made a mess. It's not like she can use any of it anymore, can she?"It's not like she can use any of it anymore. The words plunged into my heart like a pois

"Apologize to Isabella."Kael’s words hit me like a whip. The Alpha command made my wolf spirit cringe, but my mind was on fire.I stared at the man before me.The man I had loved. The man I had given everything for."Apologize? You want me to apologize to the woman who destroyed my daughter's garden?""Selena—""Shut up!" I snapped, the fire in my eyes finally erupting. "What right do you have to command me?"I looked at Kael's panicked face as memories flooded back.Twelve years ago. That rainy night. When I found him in the forest, what did he say?"Please, save me... I swear I'll love you forever. You'll be my only Luna."His voice was so desperate. So sincere.I believed him.I used my healing gifts to save his life. I helped him rebuild his Pack. I helped him build a healing empire and open the moonstone mines. I turned the Black Moon Pack from the brink of extinction into one of the most powerful forces in North America. And what did I get?Twelve years of waiting. Twelve years
