Selena and Henri are still arguing with each other when a gust of wind starts to blow. Fixing their attention at the direction of the wind, a portal takes shape. Not knowing who will walk out from the portal, Henri tightens his grip on his staff, combat-ready to attack
“Sage!?” Selena calls for him as sweat drops from the side of her cheek
“I know. Stay focused” he said
Seth comes out of the portal with one hand in his pocket and the other waving at them “Yo!”
Selena being angry for worrying about nothing shouts at her father
“Can’t you just appear as everybody does? Is it really necessary to blow things away”
“It’s called dramatic entrance and since when did you become concerned about how I appear?”
“She almost wet her pants because she thought the portal was Steve’s”
“That’s a lie!” she defended blushing
Henri’s bruised face attracts the attention of Seth
“You were caught peeping again, weren’t you?”
“It was worth the pain,” he said smirking
“You saw her, didn’t you? What’s the size of her bosom?” Seth asks salivating
“If you want to know, you gotta see for yourself. The sight is too amazing to tell"
Selena who can no longer withstand their perverseness furiously glares at her father
“If you move an inch, I will kill you” she threatens
Cold chills drop down his spine as he stands frozen. Henri taps him on the shoulder to pull him out of his trance
“You didn’t fight him?” she asks
“I did, why?”
“Because whenever you two have a fight you never look good” Henri answers
“What do you mean I never look good? I have never lost to him well except for the part where we had the ...that’s not important...”
“What I meant to say was this is the first time you come home not injured after fighting Uncle Steve”
“Oh, that? Liam patched me up”
“You found him?” Henri ask surprised
“Found who? Who’s Liam?” Selena ask confused
“I will tell you later, right now I need to speak with the Sage alone”
He said and left with Henri. They get to Henri’s place and sit outside his house
“Do you mean her son?” he ask
“Yup. I found him in a cave. Apparently he lives there”
“But how? He was supposed to be dead. I mean the news we heard said he died alongside his mother”
“He survived the assault”
“What about Shayla? Is she still alive?’’ he asks inquisitively
“She didn’t make it. I believe she died protecting him” he looks down for a bit as though he was reminiscing then looks up at Henri
A young woman in her twenties with crimson red eyes, shoulder-length black hair carrying a newborn baby walks through a newly formed portal. Seth was having a training session with Sage Henri.
“Seth meet your nephew,” she said with a baby in her arms
“Aww she’s adorable,” he said poking his face
“It’s a he Seth and stops poking his cheeks”
“A baby boy? Awesome!” he said grinning from ear to ear
“Perverted fool she said, nephew. Can I hold him?” Sophia ask
Shayla lets her carry the baby but it starts crying. The sound of his cry could tear up your eardrum. Sophia rocks him gently to calm him and shortly he goes back to sleep
“Elder sis, does that mean you two will now live here?” Seth ask
“No, am taking him back with me to the city. We will visit when he is grown”
“Why?”
“Because of Steve”
“But I can... ”
“Have you given him a name yet” Henri ask
“I am thinking of naming him Liam but I don’t know”
“Liam Eh? It’s a fine name”
“Look at his cute red eyes,” Sophia said
“He has your eyes” Henri compliments
“Thank you,” she said blushing
“Let me guess you plan on bringing him here, don’t you?”
“Yea, he needs to be with his family. After all, that’s what she would want. And we don’t sleep in caves living like animals”
“Well does he know you are his Uncle?”
“I don’t think so”
“How do you intend to tell him?” Henri ask
“I don’t know. I will think of a way when am standing in front of him” he said before disappearing into the shadows
“He is probably going to throw him in here” he says under his breath
Seth appears behind the cave, stands there thinking of how to break the news to Liam but comes up with nothing. He takes a deep breath and circles around the cave arriving at the entrance.
“I know you will come back soon” I said from inside the cave
“You know but I don’t see any welcome back gifts”
I come out of the cave with an old picture of my mother, Seth, and one other woman.
“I know I have seen your face from somewhere. This is you right?” I said giving the picture to him
“This makes my work easy” he said taking the picture from him
“What work? You know my mother don’t you?”
“She and I are siblings. She’s my elder sister”
“That makes you my uncle” I said without showing any emotion
“You could have at least pretended to be excited. Am I such a bore?”
“Yes you are”
“Your loss. By the way, Liam is the name she gave you”
“I knew you were too lame to come up with such a cool name”
“Ouch! That hurt”
“It’s the truth”
“Yea, Yea so I have been told. So tell me, how old were you when she kicked the bucket?”
“I was ten”
“Then how come you don’t know your name?”
“The only thing I remember from those days is jumping from orphanage to another”
"Maybe she used that technique on him"
“Anyways, why did you come back?” Liam asks
“To take you home”
“What do you mean home? I am home”
“Don’t be stupid. People don’t live in caves. I am taking you to the Realm. We live in the—”
“The Shadow Realm. I read about it in mom’s journal”
“I’m glad I don’t have to explain. So let’s go”
“I’m not going”
“What did you say?”
“I’m not going anywhere with you”
“You don’t trust me, is that it?” he asked laughing
“It’s not about that. Why the fuck would I wanna go?”
“It’s where your people live. It’s your home”
“My home is here. And the same people you are talking about are the ones that didn’t care to look for me when mom died. They abandoned me”
“No one abandoned you, Liam. We heard you died with Big Sis. I kept looking for you and I was about giving up hope until we stumbled on each other that day”
"Correction, we didn't stumble on each other. You barged into my home"
"Humans don't live in caves, you dimwit"
"I don't care. I'm not going with you and that's final"
Seth sighs heavily
“It won’t feel like home if I stay there. I’m not going”
“You can make it feel like home. I have a daughter just about your age. You two will get along well”
“I doubt that” I answered almost immediately
“What? Why?”
“Girls my age are troublesome”
“I don’t disagree. But the thing is you have a family”
“Family means nothing to me”
“It should because your mother cares deeply for her family and you can learn who your mother was if you come with me”
“Everything about her is in her journal”
“Dammit! That’s it! I can teach you how to control Shadows”
“She wrote about that in her journal too”
“You are joking right?”
“Yea I am but when she was alive she used to teach me”
“Boy you just said you don’t remember much, how do you know she taught you those things”
“I was kicked out of the orphanage because I would scare kids with my powers”
“Why the fuck would you do that?”
“It’s a boring place that needed a bit of spark”
“I still don’t believe you”
Liam makes the shadow under his feet take the form of a miniature dinosaur
“Okay, I believe you. But you need the specialty of the Kovo to supervise your training”
“What is Kovo?” I ask
“Didn’t she write about it in her journal?”
“She didn’t. Probably because it’s not important”
“Who the fuck said so!? I am Seth Remmick The Kovo: The blade that shines through the night. It’s a title for the strongest Shadow in the Realm”
“So you are that good?”
“That good? I am amazing”
“Yea! I think I will pass. You need to try harder if you want to change my mind”
“I know who killed your mother and who your father is”
“Who killed mom?”
“I will tell you if you come with me”
We stare at each other for minutes without saying a word. I finally break the silence
“Lead the way,” I said
“It’s not a place you can get to by walking you dumbass”
A portal forms in front of us. Every time this appears amazes me
“You are gonna teach me how to make one of these”
“I will do no such thing”
“Why?”
“Ain’t you the one pretending to have learned everything?”
“Yea but...”
“Get your stupid ass in the portal dammit!” he kicks me into the portal and walks in majestically with both hands in his pocket
The other end of the portal appears inside the Realm and I fly out landing with my face first eating the Realm’s dirt.
“Welcome to the Realm kid,” he said with an evil smirk on his face
A sharp inhale.Ken's chest rose in a shallow breath, air scraping against his dry throat like sandpaper. His lips cracked as he parted them, but no sound came. He tried to swallow, but his mouth was parched—bone-dry, like he'd been lying in the desert for days. His body felt heavier than stone, weighed down by an exhaustion so deep it threatened to pull him under again.Blurred light burned through his eyelids, too bright, too overwhelming. He winced, head throbbing with a slow, torturous pounding that sent sharp pulses through his skull. His ears rang with a high-pitched hum, but beneath it, there were voices—muffled, distant, warping in and out like a bad frequency. He couldn't make them out, but they were there."Where am I?"The last thing he remembered was... the fight. The pain. Shadows twisting around him. Selena's voice, calling him back. His breath hitched as fear clawed its way up his chest. The nightmare. It had felt so real—the suffocating darkness, the weight of death pr
Darkness. Suffocating, endless, and hungry.Ken found himself standing in a wasteland of shifting shadows, the ground beneath him cracking like dried bone. The air was thick, like tar, crawling down his throat, making every breath a struggle. A low, guttural whisper slithered through the silence, circling him. He turned, but nothing was there—only the writhing darkness stretching infinitely in every direction. Then, the whispers turned to screams. The ground beneath him erupted, and from the cracks, hands shot out—blackened, gnarled, clawing at his legs. He staggered back, only to feel something coil around his throat. His own shadow had risen, strangling him, pulling him into the abyss below.Pain. It seared through his veins, his muscles spasming violently. His own body was betraying him, the foreign Shadow raging inside like a beast trapped in a cage. His skin cracked like porcelain, dark veins pulsating underneath, threatening to consume him whole.A presence loomed ahead.A figure
Helen folded the last of her clothes into her bag, smoothing the fabric down with a slow exhale. The room was eerily quiet except for the faint rustling of fabric and the occasional snap of a closing buckle. She had packed efficiently—only the essentials. Nothing here felt like home, and she was eager to leave the Demon Realm behind.Near the door, Nicole stood with her arms crossed, already packed and waiting. Her expression was neutral, but Helen could tell she was anxious to leave.A sudden knock at the door broke the silence. It was firm, but far from the harsh pounding she had experienced before. Helen's brows furrowed in mild surprise. She glanced at Nicole before approaching the door. When she opened it, a guard stood outside, his posture stiff but respectful. He bowed slightly."The King requests your presence."Helen studied him, noting the stark difference in his tone compared to the last time he had come bearing the King's summons. No trace of disdain, no mockery. She narrow
The sound of gunshots echoed through the ruined safe house, each shot from Ken's handgun punctuating the tension in the room. His eyes were sharp, calculating, his every movement precise, but the smoke swirling around Shane made it difficult for the bullets to land cleanly. Ken's shots were quick, and his aim was deadly—but the smoke, it blocked them, diffused their power. Each shot that missed added more pressure on Ken, his breathing becoming shallow, his fingers tightening on the gun's grip.He hadn't seen a fight like this in years.Shane laughed, the sound eerie and unsettling. "Is this really the best you can do, Ken? Just a gunman and a brat with shadows? You don't even know what you're up against."Ken's jaw clenched. Brat with shadows? He didn't care about Shane's taunts, but they gnawed at him. His gun clicked empty again, forcing him to reload quickly, eyes never straying from Shane.Across the room, Selena was locked in her own battle—dark tendrils of shadow clashing again
Helen had only just settled into the stillness of the room, the quiet night wrapping around her like a thick blanket, when the door creaked open without so much as a knock.A tall, armored guard stepped into the room, his face blank and impassive. Helen's brow furrowed slightly, but she masked her surprise quickly. She had already grown accustomed to the unexpected—if there was one thing the Demon Realm's people were proficient at, it was making their entrances without warning."Lady Helen," the guard said in a firm, emotionless tone, "The King requests your presence. There is a feast in your honor tonight. He expects you to join him."Helen sat up in the chair by the window, her fingers curling into the fabric of her gown as she processed the abruptness of the invitation. She narrowed her eyes slightly, her expression cool, though a faint flicker of irritation bubbled beneath her composed exterior."And you couldn't bother to knock?" she asked, her voice smooth but edged with a hint o
Helen stood before the towering obsidian gates of the Demon Realm’s royal palace, the ever-present heat pressing against her skin. The air crackled with tension as two guards clad in dark armor swung open the gates, ushering her inside. Despite the grandeur of the palace-adorned with crimson banners and gold-trimmed pillars-there was no mistaking the hostility in the air.It wasn't her first time stepping Into enemy territory, but that didn’t make it any more welcoming. The Shadow Realm and the Demon Realm had long been rivals, and while they weren’t at war, the lack of trust was palpable. She was led into the throne room, where King Valtoria sat on his massive throne, his presence alone commanding the space. His piercing golden eyes studied her with the sharpness of a blade, and his expression twisted into something unreadable. Beside him stood his daughter, Nicole Valtoria.Nicole was unlike what most imagined a royal of the Demon Realm to be. Her long white hair cascaded down her ba
I sat in the dimly lit room, the weight of exhaustion pressing down on me, but sleep refused to come. My mind wandered-back to a time when warmth still existed in my world. The scent of fresh bread filled the air, mingling with the gentle breeze that rolled through the open windows. Sunlight streamed in, casting golden hues over the small but cozy home.I giggled as I sat cross-legged on the wooden floor, watching my mother, Shayla, kneel beside me, rolling a small ball of dough between her hands."Like this, sweetheart," she said, her voice light and full of warmth. She guided my tiny hands, pressing my fingers into the dough.I pouted. "Mine doesn't look like yours."Shayla chuckled, ruffling my blonde hair. "That's because I've had more practice. But yours is perfect because you made it."My pout turned into a grin. "Perfect?""Perfect," she repeated, booping my nose with flour.I sneezed, then burst into laughter, my little body shaking as my mother joined in, our laughter filling
Selena smoothed out her jacket, checking herself in the mirror one last time. She was satisfied with her appearance – professional, yet understated. Her task was complete, and now it was time to leave. As she turned to grab her things, the door swung open and Kevin walked in, his eyes locking onto hers. "Selena, I see you're getting ready to leave," he said, his tone casual, but his gaze intense.Selena nodded, her expression neutral. "Yes, my task is complete"Kevin's eyes narrowed slightly, his jaw clenched. He knew what her task entailed, and he wasn't happy about it. "Do you really have to leave?" he asked, his voice low and even.Selena raised an eyebrow, a hint of surprise sparking within her. She hadn't expected Kevin to ask her to stay. "Yes, I do. I need to make sure Josh wasn't lying and there're a few other things I needed to sort out" she replied, her voice firm but polite.Kevin's gaze lingered on hers, as if searching for something. Then, he nodded curtly. "Very well. Be
I slowly opened my eyes, groggily taking in my surroundings. The air was filled with the sweet scent of cherry blossoms, and the warm sunlight cast dappled shadows on the ground. A slight headache and a sense of disorientation lingered, as if I had been asleep for a long time. As I looked around, I took in the sprawling compound. It was surrounded by stunning cherry blossom trees, their flowers a breathtaking sight – nearly pure white, with delicate pink hues near the stem. The trees transformed the compound into a serene oasis. A soft breeze rustled the leaves, creating a soothing background noise. The buildings resembled those found in schools, and my gaze returned to the woman standing before me. She was likely in her 40s, with an air of confidence and authority. Her dark hair was styled impeccably, and she wore a tailored dark grey blazer, paired with a high-length skirt and a crisp white blouse. Her high-heeled boots added to her imposing presence, and she stood with her fee
