Bella

While I awaited death, visions swam before my eyes. I was being paraded around a lavish ballroom, held tightly in someone’s arms. When he whispered a joke against my ear, I let my head fall back as laughter bathed us in joy. I was so relaxed in his arms. It felt so right. As my laughter slowed, I lifted my head to look into his eyes. Something about his gray eyes seemed eerily familiar, but I just couldn’t place them. All I knew was that I never wanted to look away. His hair was soft and lush with bits of auburn streaking through the coal black. His jaw was relaxed as a loving smile beamed back at me.

“Ara,” he murmured as he lowered his mouth to mine. I melted against him as I kissed him back fervently. His hand slid from my waist around to grip my ass so he could pull me up his body to deepen the kiss. I pulled him closer to drink him in while his tongue continued to slide along mine, causing ripples of desire to course through my body. When we finally pulled back, I was breathless, making him chuckle as his hands went back to my waist. As he spun me around, I squealed happily, grasping his shoulders to keep myself stable as he continued to whirl us around the dance floor.

Once he finally set me back down on the floor, he pecked my lips again before tucking my hand into the crook of his arm and covering it with his own. “Are you hungry, my love?” he asked. I smiled up at him as I nodded. He led me to a series of thrones perched on an ornately decorated stage that stood above everyone else. They were trimmed in gold and jewels, a stark contrast to the one I had seen in Edward’s castle.

After I was seated in the one the furthest to the right, he took my hand, bowing over it to place a kiss on the back of it. “I’ll be right back, my queen.” I watched as he crossed the room to where long, elegant tables covered in platters of meats, cheeses, fruits, and desserts were. I stared at my wedding band as an older gentleman appeared in my line of sight, making me smile.

“Sire.”

“Silence!” He hissed. “It’s King James! You are no longer allowed to address me! Just like you are not worthy of sitting on that throne! Get up!”

I blinked in shock. “W-what?” This was supposed to be my coronation ball and the day that I would be allowed to sit beside the man I loved. I would no longer be a servant to The Court but a ruler of it.

“I said, “Get up!’” He snarled as he reached out to grab my hair before dragging me out of the throne and throwing me down the stairs. My father-in-law, the king, rushed down the stairs to kick me in the stomach hard.

I cried out as I wrapped my arm protectively around my stomach. “STOP! I’M PREGNANT!”

His smirk widened, and he peered down at me as he drew his leg back again. “I know, and that little bastard you’re trying to pass off as my grandchild will never see the light of day!”

“Father! STOP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!” My dance partner yelled as he rushed in our direction, only to be held back by half a dozen guards.

The King laughed maniacally as he withdrew an ornate dagger. I drew in a terrified breath as I tried to scramble backward, slipping and sliding on the slick floor. “P-please. It’s his baby. I swear! There has never been anyone else. Please. Spare me. I’ll leave! You’ll never see me again! Please,” I begged.

“Ara! Ara, you aren't going anywhere. You are mine! FATHER, STOP! DON’T DO THIS! She is already my wife! YOU CAN’T DO THIS!” My partner screamed as he tried to break free from the guards who were restraining him.

James smirked sinisterly down at me before raising the dagger. I turned my head to meet my partner’s eyes as the King swung the blade down. “I love you, Edward. I will never say goodbye,” I whispered as the blade started to slice through my neck.

  • Shadows Of Goodbye   Try Harder

Edward's POV"Try harder," I retorted, my voice dripping with defiance. "Do you honestly believe my father will spare you just because you're putting in some effort?" The mere mention of my father ignited a fierce determination in her eyes. With a resolute expression, she squared her shoulders and shifted into a defensive stance. As the shade lunged towards her once more, she didn't just defend herself this time. With a swift twist of her sword, she deflected the shade's blade and countered with a strike aimed directly at its torso. The shade recoiled, its form rippling as if in agony. Bella's eyes widened, a mix of astonishment and triumph flickering across her face."Excellent!" I exclaimed, my voice ringing out with encouragement. "You see? It can be wounded. Keep pressing on!" The shade quickly regained its composure, its movements growing swifter and more unpredictable. It tested her, feinting high before striking low, spinning and slashing with escalating ferocity. Bella struggl

  • Shadows Of Goodbye   Next Challenge

Edward"Are you ready?" I inquired, my gaze locked on her. She nodded, determination shining in her narrowed eyes. With a swift movement, I lunged forward, my sword aimed at her left side. She skillfully blocked my attack, her feet adjusting to maintain her balance. Undeterred, I swung again, this time targeting higher. Just in the nick of time, she raised her sword to deflect my blow. "Impressive," I commended, circling her with purpose. "Don't just react, anticipate. If I strike from your left, where might I strike next?"Her hesitation was brief, her eyes assessing my stance. "You're right?" she ventured.I nodded, executing a feint to the left before striking to her right. She blocked my attack, her movements growing swifter. "Precisely," I affirmed. "Continue to think, continue to observe."For the following hour, we engaged in the drill. I intensified the speed of my strikes, challenging her reflexes and pushing her to adapt. Despite stumbling on occasion, her frustration eviden

  • Shadows Of Goodbye   Fight

EdwardI felt a flicker of pride, mixed with the ever-present fear that I was dragging her into a world she did not belong in. This was necessary. My father would not stop until he had taken everything from me, and I refused to let him win. Bella glanced at me, her eyes searching mine. “You will stay with me, right? Through this?""Always," I said, the promise heavy with meaning. "I will not let anything happen to you, Bella. Not while I am breathing."The shade shifted into a defensive stance. The training ground was vast and ominous. Rows of wooden dummies stood like silent sentinels along the edges, their surfaces marred with scars of countless battles. Weapons of all kinds, blades, staffs, and maces hung on racks, gleaming faintly in the pale morning light. The air was thick with tension, the kind that came before a storm. I stood at the center of the grounds, my arms crossed as I watched Bella take hesitant steps forward. Her stance was unsure, but there was a flicker of determin

  • Shadows Of Goodbye   Guilt

EdwardAs I listened to Bella's voice, it was soft and slightly trembling, echoing in the room as I scrubbed the walls beside her. She spoke of feeling isolated, of yearning for me to be closer. Her words pierced through me, leaving a lingering ache that I struggled to comprehend. She was oblivious to the imminent danger that lurked around us. How could I make her understand that my father was not just a haunting figure in my thoughts, but a menacing and merciless monster in reality? The warning he had issued, the blood-stained ring he had left behind, was not a mere threat; it was a chilling promise of the horrors to come.Every time Ara crossed my mind, a wave of guilt washed over me, dragging me down into the depths of despair. In my past, Edward of the Light had been weak and foolish, allowing Ara to be taken from him. But I am not him. He may lurk within me, but I refuse to make the same mistake with Bella. I will not let her suffer as Ara did.I have doubled Bella's guards, ensu

  • Shadows Of Goodbye   Distraction

I needed a distraction, and this was it.“Thank you.” With a nod, she left the room. I wasted no time in preparing the bucket and began scrubbing the walls, ridding them of the tiny bug-like creatures that had made their home there in just one day. I hadn’t lied to the centaur female; I truly needed a distraction. The weight of the impending war Edward was preparing for, coupled with the strange changes happening to my body, had me on edge. I needed to focus on something else, anything else. The uncertainty of what lay ahead was eating away at me. I sighed, thinking about our future. Edward's future as king was clear, but my role as queen was far from certain. This entire experience has taught me a valuable lesson: despite being spoiled by my parents, I am not a princess. I worked to become a great reporter only to end up as an assistant. So I tried to be the best assistant, but I am not superior to anyone. I am simply a person. And in the realm of the supernatural, I am at the lowest

  • Shadows Of Goodbye   Coping

I placed a hand on his arm, feeling the tension rippling beneath his skin. “Edward, revenge will not bring her back.”“No, but it will make him suffer,” he snapped, pulling away. “That is all I care about. I want his soul to be no more. I want it done once and for all.” The silence that followed was suffocating. I did not know what to say, how to calm the storm raging inside him. As I looked into his eyes, I realized something. This was not just anger. This was grief, guilt, and a love that had been twisted into something dark and vengeful. He stared at me for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Then, with a heavy sigh, he pulled me into his arms. “I will not lose you, Bella,” he whispered against my hair. “Not to him. Not to anyone.”“Then we will fight the Darkness together. But answer this: if Ara could return as she once was, would you choose her?”His piercing gaze locked onto mine as he gently pursed his lips. Slowly, he reached out and cradled my head in his hands."Befo
