Chapter 3

Driving through the night, she wanted to get as far away from there as she could. Her Grandfather's death broke her heart even more. Clinging onto his necklace, she forced herself to get a hotel and sleep a little. She was going back home to face more death and destruction. She felt paralyzed. Walking through the darkness, she wasn’t sure where she was going. Daniel warned her coming here was a bad idea. Something about tonight was off, she didn’t want to come here, not tonight. Closing her eyes, she tried to force herself to go back to her world.

“Too bad that doesn’t work here,” Dremis said appearing about ten feet in front of her. He watched her curiously. “You know you can just accept what you are, or continue to fight it. When we come for you, many will die. Including your Daniel.” he half-smiled.

Abey didn’t want anything to do with this place, she wanted to tell this demon that he didn’t have control over her, but she wasn’t even sure she could control what happens to her. “I don't have to accept anything. As far as I am concerned you are just a low-level demon, that can't hurt me.”

The smile on his face faded, he took a few steps towards her. His coat trailing behind him as if the wind caught it. “You better watch that tongue,” he growled, threatening to come closer to her. “Your Grandfather is an example that I am real. Test me again human and your best friend. Ah..... what was her name. G. Hm Gabriela? Ah yes, you see I have a demon working Gabriela as we speak.” he giggled to himself.

“I know this is just a dream and you aren’t even real. The Coven seems to think that you are just something of my past coming back to haunt me.” she spat back at him. Abey knew he would be as dangerous as he said he was, but she wanted to have proof to take back to the Coven, so they stopped telling her he wasn’t even real. “No one controls my dreams!”

Dremis stood there for a moment, he watched her curiously. She wasn’t really afraid of him anymore, he needed to make sure she was deathly afraid of him. “Well, I could take your friend, and torture her until you know your destiny if you like?” he growled.

Abey's eyes narrowed, bringing Gabriela in this was something she wasn’t prepared for. Abey would gladly die for her best friend, but she didn’t want to stay in this place alone forever. “You leave her outta this!” Abey growled. She wanted to summon someone to help her, but she felt powerless here.

He took a step towards her, “you see I know everything about you. I know your weaknesses and even your strengths.” he laughed at himself, Abey looked around more 'hooded' circled them. “Your best friend Gabriela is supposed to aid you in what we're trying to do. You see she either has to die or join you here. In your prison.” he said glancing around.                  “But I see you are not afraid of me, so I shall give you a reason to be,” he said grabbing her. “You see, you're the only important thing I'm after. You'll have no choice but to come back here, willingly.” he licked his lips.

Abey tried pulling herself from his grip, he held on tighter. Closing her eyes, she felt something, she wasn't sure until the pain started.

She cried out in pain; he was torturing her from her soul. “Stop, please, stop!” she whined, trying to free herself from his hold.

He let go of her, “done, now you'll know I'm real.” he said disappearing, releasing his hold on her soul. He allowed her to go back to her world.

Abey opened her eyes, she scanned the room around her. Another dream, but something about this one felt different. She challenged him, and he made sure she knew he was real. Looking down at her stomach, she felt the heat that she felt when he tortured her.

“Now you know I'm real.” rang in her ears.

She sat there for a moment, she wanted to tell the Coven about what just happened, but they already told her they didn’t believe she was dreaming anything special. The buzzing of her phone on the nightstand grabbed her attention. “Hello?” she said standing up and walking into the bathroom.

“Hey, Samuel wants to see us. The entire Coven.” Gabriela said. “Look I don’t think it's wise that I come there, I had another dream, and this one I think was real,” she said rubbing her stomach, she wanted to tell Gabriela about what Dremis said, but she didn’t want to scare her.

“Well Samuel said you are to come, and if you don’t the entire Coven will come and find you.” she challenged. She was never good at lying, the Coven didn’t care about her dreams. They had bigger things to worry about.

“Look they have other things that have their attention; besides I'm perfectly fine hiding out for a while,” Abey said pulling up her shirt to get a better look at her stomach. Nothing seemed out of place, just the weird feeling she had.

“Samuel knows more about what you've been dreaming about. He said you could be in danger. He mentioned that one guy’s name.” she said sounding concerned.

“Who?” Abey said pulling out something to eat.

“Dreamer, Dremis? Yeah, Dremis. I overheard him talking on the phone with one of the Elders about it. The Elder I think told him to get you here, I think they are coming here. I think your dreams are messages for us, maybe even a warning.”

Abey rolled her eyes, she knew what they met. Her friends and family would die, and she would be forced there against her will. She didn’t want to put anyone in danger. “Look I don’t know what you're talking about. I don’t want to explain my dreams. I've been to my tribe; I was told I was trouble.” she said shaking her head. “I just need to figure this stuff out. I'm sorry.” she hung up the phone before Gabriela could give her any more excuses.

Grabbing her small bag of clothes, she'd never unpacked, she was ready to run for the hills. Her phone beeped, new text message. 'Go East.'

Abey opened her car door. “Yo, Abey!” Daniel called running up. “Hey Daniel,” she said tucking her hair behind her ear.

“Where are you going? I've been waiting for you at school, you drop out or something?” he said shrugging his shoulders.

“No, I am having some family problems, have been dealing with them. I'm late, I need to catch a train.” she lied.

“You're not going to the Coven meeting tonight?” he asked looking in the back of the car.

“Na, I have a sick Grandma I'm going to take care of for a couple of months. I need the break,” she said throwing her purse in the front seat.

Daniel didn't want to scare the girl, he wanted to tell her what he was, but he knew she would run anyways. Closing his eyes, he knew what he had to do, but he didn’t want to force the girl to stay. “Are you still having those crazy dreams that the Coven said were just something you're haunted by?” he said moving closer.

“Yeah, but like everyone says they are just dreams. I figure if I hide from here, maybe they will go away and I can come back and live a normal life,” she said getting in her car. “I got to go,” she said closing the door and pulling out of the parking space. Daniel watched her curiously. He knew she was in danger; she knew it too. It was written all over her frame.

Heading towards the highway, she wasn’t sure what part of the East, but she'd start in New York.

The ring of her phone startled her, she looked down at the number. 'Gabriela'. She rolled her eyes and answered it. “Um there's someone here, he's been circling the house all day. He says he knows you, and if I don’t come out, he's going to kill you,” she whined into the phone.

Abey looked up at the signs coming up, “You're at home?” Abey questioned.

           “Yeah, please hurry,” she begged.

Abey jerked the car off the exit at the last second. Her heart was beating faster than anything. “I'm on my way,” she said before hanging the phone up. Pushing past 60, she raced the 20 something blocks to the dead-end street Gabriela lived. Jumping out of the car just as it stopped to park.

“Gabriela!” she called opening the front door. Walking into the kitchen, Gabriela laid on the ground unconscious. “Gabby?” Abey whispered looking around. Feeling for a pulse, her heart raced faster than Abey's.

“Surprise!” Dremis said grabbing Abey by the neck. “So now that I have the two of you together, we can go back home and start the war that ends this planet and all of the fleas,” he said trying to grab onto Gabriela.
