LOGINKnocking lightly on the door, my stomach was churning like a washing machine. I needed to calm myself. I couldn’t afford to get sick again. Cleo opened the door with a nervous look on her face. I stepped in to see Prue lay on the bed on her phone, without care in the world.“Hi.” I spoke softly.“I see he saved you then, just as he promised he would.” Her tone was harsh and unyielding.“I haven’t come to fight Prue. We were once best friends. I want to clear the air.”“Clear the air!” She snapped sitting up onto the side of the bed. “You have an affair with the boss and get to keep your job while I lose mine! How is that fair?”“I don’t know what is going on between you and Damian but I’m sure he would not fire you for no reason.”“He fired me because I threatened you and your precious little job. You only got Project Orion because of who he is.”“What is that supposed to mean?”“Come on, girls. Calm down.” Cleo tried to mediate.“Stay out of this,” Prue hissed at her, “You got the pr
I collected the test from the counter, unable to look at it immediately. I turned it over in my hand and stared at the screen. There was no denying the result on the window. The words were plain as day. Clear written words in front of me. The world stopped around me, and everything faded away. My world was forever changed in that moment.“Hurry up.” Cleo bounced outside the doorway.I turned and handed her the test. She squealed and wrapped me up in her arms.“You’re pregnant!” She exclaimed. “Oh my god, congratulations!”I stood silent, still, unable to move, feel, or speak. What words could be said to sum it up. Pregnant. I was pregnant with Damian’s child. A man who is holding secrets, a man who had loved me like no one ever has but also cause me more suffering emotionally in the last few weeks than anyone else had in a long time. I was already coming to terms with mourning the loss of the relationship, but that result may change that. Because no matter what secrets Damian held, we
Damian handed me the keycard to his room. It wasn’t until I noticed that he pulled it from his jacket pocket, That I realized he was already dressed for the evening. He looked so handsome and dashing. If I hadn’t had just been throwing up, I may well have jumped him there and then.He pulled me to my feet and held me tightly. I wrapped my arms inside his jacket and around his waist. Taking a deep breath and inhaling his scent like it might be the last time. Whatever was going to happen later that night was enough to have him shaken. He kissed me lightly on my lips, then my nose, and my forehead.“I love you.” He whispered and released his hold on me.He held the door open for Cleo as she reentered. “If you have any trouble from my sister tonight, then please let me know immediately and she will be dealt with accordingly.”Cleo nodded and watched as he walked away. She gave me a look of oh wow, dominating. I just smiled and laughed a little.“Can I ask you something?” She said approa
Taking a seat on the edge of the bed while Cleo inspected the room, I pulled my phone from my pocket and messaged Damian. ‘I’m in the hotel room with Cleo. We are going to stay here for a while. Do you know if Prue is on her way?’ ‘Honestly, I am not sure. I tried to ban her from tonight, but I know Prue, she will come anyway.’ ‘Ok, I guess I will stay here with Cleo until she arrives.’ ‘I need to head over to the venue shortly, do you want to come and get a key from me or do you want to get one from reception?’ ‘Can you bring it to Cleo’s room?’ ‘Are you sure that is a good idea?’ ‘I’ve told her everything, Damian. I was left standing alone in reception with no one. I needed someone.’ I knew that the message could have come across snappy, but he needed to know that by him walking out and leaving me there standing, cut me deeply. ‘I’m on my way, what’s your room number?’ I sent him the number and looked up at Cleo, who was watching me intently. “Damian is on his way over.
Cleo stayed the night at mine and worked from my house on Friday. She told everyone at work some stupid lie, but they had all brought it. She opted to stay at mine on Friday night also. There had been no communication from Damian or Prue. Saturday morning was awash with a mixture of emotions as I packed my bag up for the night away. It wasn’t until that moment that I remembered we had booked a three-way room for us to share. I then remembered that Damian had also booked me a room, but I wasn’t sure if that included himself or whether it was a room for just me. I started to freak out; there was no way I was spending the night in a room and getting ready with Prue. I hoped by some miracle that after everything that was going on that Prue may not go to the party. It still left me a question over Damian though.Picking up my phone, I hovered over his name so many times, but I didn’t know what to say. I could hear Cleo on the phone downstairs, so I grabbed the last of my things and he
Cleo drove me home. I collapsed onto the sofa. She pulled the blanket from the chair and handed it to me. She went into full mother mode. She was making toast and gave me a glass of water. The go to remedy for settling an upset stomach, even if it was driven by emotions. We spent the afternoon talking. I told her everything from the very start to the very end. Everything that happened in the office between me and Damian, to Prue and her warnings. The flippancy of Prue’s behaviour throughout. I even spared no details on the mid-week break. Cleo lapped it all up and was awash with ooo’s and ahs. She sat and listened and only asked a few questions occasionally, which was not like her at all. She was digesting all the information. Once I was finished, she sat back and looked at me. I couldn’t ascertain the thoughts she was going through. I could usually tell what Cleo was thinking she was like an open book but this time, I had no idea what she was thinking at all. Just as I was about to
