Chapter 68 - Damian POV

I needed to message her; every part of me ached for her. How could I want someone so badly? I did the one thing I knew I shouldn’t do. I accessed her personnel file and retrieved her personal number.

I guess I will add that to the list of broken rules. I thought to myself as I sat at my desk.

Texting her felt more personal, like this was real. Like there could be a future between us. I agreed to her terms and added her to my phone under E. I couldn’t bring myself to give her another name. I knew no one apart from Prue would know what E stood for, so it was good enough for me.

I tried to contain my emotions and not let them show. I didn’t want to pressure her or overwhelm her into a position that she was not comfortable with. Although, she had asked me to message her during girl’s night, I couldn’t wait 5 minutes after getting home before messaging her. We exchanged a few messages back and forth.

    As I awoke to an empty bed, I checked the time on my phone. It was 12:34 p.m. I rubbed my eyes, cleared my sleep from them, and stretched out.     The doctor returned a few hours later. It was a little before 1am, but I was discharged and free to go. All my tests had come back clear. I just needed rest and they agreed that I would be better off at home for that. Cleo called me a taxi while I was getting myself sorted and discharged.     The abyss swallowed me up. I was curled up in the darkness, cradling myself. Tears flooding from my eyes, hollowness filling me up. It felt like I would be there forever.
