Chapter 36

We start getting dressed. He looks outside and checks to make sure the coast is clear. He calls on his phone to Fredrick and speaks with him. When he is done, he tells me that Conrad and Edgar no longer appear to be in the area. I should be safe. I breath a sigh of relief.

“You can’t stay here right now.” He tells me.

“I honestly never wanted to. Too much has happened to me here to want to be here.”

“You will be here eventually but, right now I need to keep you safe. You’re coming with me to Germany.” He tells me with finality. I look at him in surprise. I am going with him to the Hofer family estate. If he’s really the same one who was with Gabrielle, this means I am going to the “Lord Hofer” estate where he was once a person of German royalty. The amount of German historical ancestry this is, I am nervous and excited.

“In my vision, they were saying that you called a ‘Vampire King’ of Germany?” I ask him he looks at me warily.

“Yes, that is true, you don’t need to worry about it. that’s not your affair.” He tells me with a resolved voice.

“Yes, I do, if we are together, then eventually wouldn’t that make me queen?” he studies me with an unreadable look.

“I will not discuss that right now.” He says with a tone that leaves no discussion.

“I would like to at some point, and don’t act like I am not capable. You know my family, they haven’t changed. I grew up in an aristocratic way. My fathers family is old French royalty. You know that, my father was a wealthy businessman and my mother’s family though they are money grubbers I can’t stand, are elite society people with a successful billion-dollar empire line. Which being their only grandchild from their only biological daughter I will inherit too, I am up to the task.” I tell him with a deadpan look.

“I thought they had other children?” he asks me.

“Adopted, and they treat them with their grandchildren like they’re invisible. So, imagine their fury when my mother and I chose not to live like we’re billion-dollar China dolls.” I said as he smirked.

“You and your mother were better people than they are. I’ve met them, and believe me when I say this, I really wanted to drain them dry.” I stared at him.

“Especially when I learned how they treated you.” He said in with a growl. I kissed him to help him relax and take the murderous look off his perfect face.

“Let’s not talk about this anymore, I would love to visit your home.”

‘You’ll get more acquainted with my brothers. The Hofer’s you’ve spoken to at the firm are our cousins.” I look at him surprised. I knew they were related but, I wasn’t sure how.

“How are there so many of you?”

“We can procreate; we just need a human to do it. The pregnancy can be arranged to be a C section to avoid any complications.”

“How are you vampires if you’re born of humans?”

“A witch, some use good witches, others use dark witches. Depending on the family and how things go. What they do is use a witch to repress the human side. The child goes through a special transformation, where their vampire takes over and eternity becomes the dominant lifeforce. The Carvernall’s use dark witches, they want children who they feel are true blooded vampires. Dominant, viscous, powerful and some savage. They’re family is similar to Edgar. Be luck you didn’t go through with the engagement.” He tells me in a heated tone.

I got a dreadful feeling when he said that.

“Who is Edgar?” I ask him carefully.

“Edgar and Conrad are my cousins, from my dark uncles family.”

“If they’re you’re family, why are they like this?”

“You should know, not all family is good. My uncle Vigo changed after humans murdered his wife while she was turning. That was a millennia ago. He vowed revenge against the humans who killed her. He was the only family member to turn to dark magic. He aligned himself with vampire families connected to the Carvernall’s and procured their dark witches. He turned on our family values and beliefs. He trained Edgar and his other children to be lethal vengeful assassins.” I shivered, and not in a good way.

“Edgar wants the role of King, if he gets it though. Humanity will be doomed. Being raised in hate against human he’ll annihilate them or enslave them in revenge of his mother.” I shivered again in horror.  

“Why?” Why would Silas do that to me!” I asked, I didn’t know if I wanted to know but, I felt like I needed to.

“The Carvernall’s, would have wed you only for the need of an heir to their family. Afterwards two things would happen. You would either be forced to turn into a vampire, even against your will to stay with the child or, if you didn’t turn and you went against them, they would kill you. They don’t love anyone. They’re all show or glam and no worth. Every women that has ever been mated to a Carvernall is force against their will to turn. Majority of them choose to turn so they’re not killed. They don’t care. They always choose for a royal family as well. I am very amazed that Silas never stay committed. I can’t imagine his family not trying to force him to complete the betrothal with you. They desperately wanted Gabrielle; she saw through them and defied the arranged marriage. Something about them rubbed her wrong.” As he tells me this, I realize the nightmare that was awaiting me had Owen or Silas been faithful. I felt physically ill. They’re worse than my mothers family.

“Why did he cheat with his paralegal then?” I can’t help but ask.

“They’ve been secret fuck buddies for centuries; it was never something you saw coming.” He tells me in a low voice. I nearly fell over in shock. He played me the whole time.

“In college when he was fooling around with my roommate?”

“Silas is a player. He’d never be faithful to any woman. He was just better at hiding it this time around. Vampires have drifted into human movies and myths. No one would ever believe he was one and he played on that. He knew you would probably never believe he was one. Gabrielle was already familiar with whispers about Vampires. She chose to believe the rumors, and that saved her from a fate worse than death.” He told me in a grave tone.

“What if I wanted that from you?” he looked at me in shock, and something unreadable.

“What are you saying?”

“I want children, I thought I would want them with Owen but, not after his betrayal. What if I want that with you? Children and eternity.” The hope on his face with like lightening struck his face. He pulled me in his arms fiercely. He kissed me hard.

“I thought you would never ask. I have wanted it for so long but, I was not sure how you as a human in this modern society would react.”

“I have no one left but, you, I want no one but you my darling. You’re all I have; all I want and all I need.” I tell him while caressing his face. He beams. He grabs me and pushes me against the wall. His forehead is pressing against mine.

“You have no idea how happy you just made me.” He tells me in a whisper.

“I am half tempted to take you back into the room and make sure I fill you full of me” he says in a seductive voice.

“Haven’t you been” I teased.

“Yes, and I’ll never stop.” Suddenly my worries came back to me.

“What if I am?”

“What if you are what?”

“What if I am pregnant? Every time we have sex and you fill me up, I feel something bind me to you.” He looked shocked as if I stunned him.

“I’ve never heard of that. Normally for that to happen, I would have to give you a claiming mark?”

“Didn’t you?”

“Not fully, I would have to literally bite you, a mating seal would form, and it would one hundred percent bind you too me.”

“Maybe I’m different? Could it be because, I am a doppelganger and your soulmate?” he looked lost in thought.

“It could be, we’ll explore it more once we’re in Germany.” He told me as he started to get dressed.

I followed suit, I went into the bathroom and decided on a shower. When he realized what I was doing, joined me. Needless to say, we didn’t just shower. This mans appetite for my body was insatiable. He took me in multiple positions in the shower. He even had me screaming his name as he was washing my body with my loofa and his tongue. God, how far can this man go! He feasted on my heated core as well as showed me how to toss a salad. Owen never took this opportunity. I also never let him feel like he had a chance. I think I know why now. The man who is actually called Silas, perhaps deep down, I had a unsettled feeling about him all along.  I tried to dismiss but, somewhere in my soul, I just couldn’t shake something off about it. Is that why I kept him at arm’s length in reality?

Ralph was so different. He took what he wanted, he ignited my soul on fire, and he has never done anything to hurt me. I feel loved and safe with him. He’s been thoroughly good to me and my family all my life. I love that he can’t tolerate my mothers family just like I can’t. There’s no pressure with him. no conformity. He gives me free choice to be who I want, to do what I feel is right. He fits with me like a glove better than Silas ever did. I never want to leave him.
