Chapter 2

Author: Mohini
Jordan's POV

Matthew, who had never contacted me before, sent me a friend request at that moment. The pinned post on his social media feed showed the wedding ceremony he and Talia had held a few days earlier to make up for the one they'd missed.

When Talia told me she was traveling abroad on a business trip, I'd spent the entire night sitting anxiously in the living room, unable to sleep.

Meanwhile, she was on the other side of the world, promising forever to another man.

I scrolled down and realized it was full of records of Talia traveling around the world with Matthew and their son.

Yet, in the five years of our relationship, the only thing I had ever asked of her was to take a honeymoon trip with me.

As it turned out, the wish I'd never been able to fulfill was just part of Matthew and James' everyday life.

The last straw that broke my back was a photo album. It contained tens of thousands of photos taken through Talia's lens. Each one stung my eyes.

Whenever we went shopping or took a walk together, I'd beg Talia to take a picture with me as a keepsake. However, she'd only wave her hand impatiently. "There's nothing worth photographing. Besides, I don't know how."

It hit me then that she wasn't bad at taking pictures; she simply didn't want to take them for me.

Just then, she wrapped up her call and walked back inside.

She wrapped her arms around me from behind and apologized to me, as if she'd only made a minor mistake. "I'm sorry for keeping this from you for such a long time, Jordan. I'll make it up to you by taking you on our honeymoon next time."

I couldn't believe that she actually thought she could gloss over such a hideous truth with a few words.

I shoved her away. "Forget it! You've been lying to me for five years. Do you really think I'm that easy to fool? Let's just… break up."

I abruptly realized I wasn't even in a position to ask for a divorce.

Talia's expression instantly darkened. "My husband shouldn't make a mountain out of a molehill."

When she noticed my teary eyes, her tone softened slightly. "In time, James will call you Dad, too. As far as everyone else is concerned, you're already my husband. Why are you so hung up on a marriage certificate?"

The emotions I'd bottled up all this time finally overflowed. "Do you think this is fair to me? It's not!"

Not only did I have zero legal standing, but now I had to play father to her lover's son.

To my surprise, she looked at me as if I was insane. Her tone remained calm. "You're the only head of the house. No matter what, he's just my foster brother. So, you ought to set an example.

"Matthew's birthday party is tomorrow. Be sure to show up on time. I'm sure you won't make a scene again." Having said her piece, she spun on her heel and left.

I let out a bitter chuckle.

Talia didn't come home that night. In fact, she popped up in Matthew's feed.

The woman who had once sworn she'd never set foot in a kitchen was now frolicking in one with Matthew and James.

Flour and butter were scattered all over them. Had it been me in that kitchen, she would've pinched her nose and complained about the smell of cooking oil and smoke.

At that moment, I received a video from an unknown number.

A doctor was carrying a newborn baby that was still covered in amniotic fluid and was about to walk out of the delivery room.

Matthew abruptly stumbled into the frame, pleading with Talia, "The doctor just told me that I'll probably never be able to have children... No one will ever marry me, and I'll never get to be a father. Talia, are you really going to be so heartless as to abandon me?"

Talia cradled the infant and looked torn.

I recognized that infant at a single glance. He was the child she had carried for ten months and claimed had "died shortly after birth".

In the video, however, his cries were loud, and his complexion was healthy and rosy. Morbid curiosity compelled me to keep watching.

My heart leaped into my throat until Talia handed the child over to Matthew. Her next words left my ears ringing. "Go out and tell my husband that our baby died right after birth."

Jordan's POVI never thought the day would come when she'd use our son as a means to keep me bound to her. However, she had no idea that my feelings for James were nothing more than the instinctive love a father felt for his own flesh and blood. So long as he grew up safe and sound, I had no desire to raise him by my side. Hence, I jeered. "Since he has called Matthew 'Daddy' for five years, I doubt he'll be able to bond with me. You should know perfectly well what kind of father Matthew would be. "Besides, James is staying with you, his mother. I'm sure you wouldn't torture him, so you can raise him yourself from now on." After hearing that, she couldn't help but scowl. "Jordan, are you seriously willing to abandon even your own son just to leave me? I refuse to believe you can be this heartless!" "You're the one who's heartless!" I instinctively blurted out.Back then, she'd given James to Matthew, married him, and watched my own son and me be separated. For the last fi

Third-person POVTalia hurried downstairs. The sight that greeted her nearly made her legs give out. Blood had leaked out and pooled inside the insulated box, revealing what looked like two bloody lumps of flesh. "W-What's this doing in my house?" The housekeeper hurriedly backed away. "I was going to unbox it, Ms. Smith… I had no idea it contained this! Wasn't this sent by Mr. Brooks?" Exactly. Why on earth would Jordan send this to her? Talia had only asked the doctors to perform a vasectomy on him; she never imagined they would remove his balls. When Jordan had screamed and begged her for mercy, she hadn't believed him. She hadn't even wanted to hear another word from him. After pulling the surveillance footage, she watched the horrific ordeal unfold before her eyes. It turned out those people had subjected Jordan to such brutal torture. Talia's mind went blank, and she could barely think straight. "This can't be… I have to find him right away!" She had just taken

Third-person POVTalia couldn't help but frown. "This can't be right. My boyfriend lives here. If he had something to give me, he'd give it to me directly. Why would he send it by courier?" Still, she signed the courier's receipt.Talia was about to unbox it when Matthew hurriedly snatched it from her and tossed it aside. "Jordan must be up to his usual tricks again! He always gives me scary things to freak me out. He used to do this all the time. I simply didn't tell you…"She took in his reaction and felt a surge of disgust toward Jordan. "To think I was kind enough to agree to go on a honeymoon with him! I had no idea he already saw you as a thorn in his side. I can't believe he'd stoop to such childish pranks." With that thought in mind, she pulled James into her arms. "Let me know if Jordan ever tries to harm you again. I'll stand up for you."However, she didn't notice that James kept staring at Matthew with fear in his eyes. "I-I will."Matthew deliberately changed the su

Jordan's POVI went rigid. Before I knew it, a sharp slap landed square on my face. Talia held up her trembling hand, her brows knitted together. "How dare you lay a hand on them right in front of me? Who knows how you've been threatening them behind my back?"The metallic tang of blood rapidly spread through my mouth. The pain of seeing James hurt, the guests' insults, and the hatred in Talia's eyes suffocated me. Matthew, who was standing behind her, looked at me with a provocative grin. He mouthed the words, "How does it feel to be betrayed by both your son and your wife?" His contorted features magnified infinitely before my eyes. I could no longer hold back and charged at him. Before I could even reach him, Talia ruthlessly kicked me down the steps. In a heartbeat, excruciating pain shot through my internal organs as shards of broken glass plunged into my skin. All I could hear was Talia's furious roar. "That's enough, Jordan!"I didn't dare move. I practically begged

Jordan's POVI felt as though I'd been struck by lightning. The child she had put her life on the line to bear for me had actually been gifted to Matthew right from the cradle. And I, his father, hadn't even gotten the chance to see him. I could still remember how Talia had bawled her eyes out while doing her best to comfort me. "We'll have another child. I know we will."I'd spent three days and three nights weeping at my child's grave. My hair had turned gray overnight. Little did I know, at the exact same time, my son had been sleeping peacefully in another man's arms. …The following day, Talia had someone drag me to Matthew's birthday party against my will. The man was dressed in a sleek suit, holding my biological child with one hand while wrapping his other arm around the slender waist of my girlfriend. I, on the other hand, looked out of place.Murmurs rippled through the guests behind me. "Rumor has it he's infertile. It's all thanks to Matthew that the Smith fam
