Chapter 1

My husband died six months after our marriage people like to call, a “dream marriage”. They believed it was a love story. You know, he met me, liked me and we decided to get married because I reciprocated the feelings. Meanwhile, i hated the old geezer. Suddenly, he had an heart attack and slumped to his death. Just like that. One day he was barking orders about his empire, the next he was gone. They wanted to put the blame on me, especially the evil witch he called a mother but luckily, autopsy was done and it was confirmed to be heart attack, a condition that had been brewing long before he met me. Now the family policy says I have to move into his old mansion, where his family lived and mourn him in black for ten full days. Ten days of pretending I give a shit. Ten days of standing that evil witch of a mother-in-law, the greedy bitch of an aunt-in-law and the spoilt brat of a neice-in-law. Just ten days. I stood in my bedroom stuffing clothes into a suitcase while my friend Lola lay on the queen-sized bed of my master bedroom in my condo. 

“You’re really doing this?” she asked.

“Obviously,” I snapped, zipping the bag. “Ten days in black, play the sad widow, collect my share of the will, then I’m out. Back to my real life. That old man got six months of legal wife, I get the payout. Fair trade.”

“You seem too happy for a grieving wife.”

I raised a brow. “Happy? Actually, yes. Happy that I don't have to deal with that pathetic small stick he calls dick drilling my hole almost every night.”

Lola’s eyes widened. “Was it that bad?”

“I don't know what it feels like to be occupied down there. I couldnt even use dildos because he has cctv inserted everywhere. I had an horrible time, Lola. Maybe I'm getting old.”

“Girl, you are just thirty-five!” she laughed. “So, what now? After the ten days mourning you'd find a man to fuck?”

I paused. “I don't know. Maybe.” 

She frowned. “Didn't you just say he fucks terribly, which means you've not had a good fuck in what? A year? Shouldn't locating a nig dick be your priority?”

“You're right. But, I have a much higher priority.”

“Which is…?”

I smiled it off, hoping she doesn't keep asking.

“Oh, so, you are keeping secrets now?”

I paused again as she looked up. 

“What? You haven't seen them?”

“Only pictures. I was not really curious.”

“They are insanely hot. All three of them. The first one, Damon, is a real estate owner. He has five of them, he is about twenty-eight years old. Got divorced last year, zero kids and he hot, holy fuck!” 

She pulls out a picture of him shirtless, built muscles, jet black hair slicked back gingerly, grey orbs. I rolled my eyes and continued packing.

She continued though even after knowing I was not interested.

“Then, the second son looks like he could pass for a fucking runway model! Just look at those insane skin tone!” She showed a picture of him to me.

He wore a white shirt, his built stretching it gingerly. His jet black hair parted in the center. He had Hazel eyes, he looked so much like his father. 

“Christian. He is twenty-six. Manages the finance department of his father's business.” She gasped at something she saw. “Holy fuck! He owns 16 fucking real estates!!”

My eyes widened slightly. “Woah, that's huge.”

“And the last born. Julian. Curly hairs. His smile is so beautiful.” She showed me his picture.

Oh, it is.

“He is twenty-three. His eyes so pretty.” She fawned. “He has pretty lips, too. Do you think his tongue would be long enough to go de—”

I dragged the phone from her. “For goodness sake, Lola! Those are my stepsons, what are you doing?”

Realization dawned on her. “Oh, right. I forgot. But, they are so hot, I threw my senses out of the window.”

“Just stop, okay? I'm starting to get headache. I've not even faced my mother-in-law yet and i already have a headache. Jeez!”

After a beat, she looked at me with puppy eyes. “But, if you can help me get Christian's number, I'll forever be gratef—”

“Lola!” 

The next evening my Mercedes-Benz SUV pulled up to the estate. It was massive—the largest I’d ever seen. That old geezer had tossed me a condo during our marriage and called it generous. I hope this mission made up for it.

It was getting dark when I stepped inside. The mansion’s matron, Lily, met me at the door. She took my small suitcase and led me through the halls.

“The young masters would be arriving for dinner soon.” she said. “Please join the others at the table, I'll go get them.”

I followed her to the dining room and she left to go drop my suitcase and go call the boys The three women were already seated at the dining table—my mother-in-law, aunt-in-law, and neice-in-law. My mother-in-law’s eyes locked on me the second I sat down.

“I would have sworn you'd be too ashamed to show your face again after the stunt you pulled the last time.”

“Oh, mother. It's not something to be ashamed for. I did exactly what you were too afraid to do.”

“I didn't bother requesting for the autopsy because i knew my son so well and i know he is a strong-minded man who wouldn't die like chicken.”

“Well, he did.” i threw my gaze to her. “Died like chicken.”

She grabbed onto the napkin. “You little bitch!”

“Aunt! Can we please not do this!” Neice-in-law, Rayna, protested. “She is not worth your strength.” 

She glared at me one last time. “Before we pray, go and call your cousins, Rayna.”

Rayna looked around. “They kicked me out the last time I tried, ask someone else or go yourself.” Rayna retorted rudely.

“You knowI don't like being in the same room with those boys! They are trouble. At least we should have one decent dinner as one big family.”

“Well, then. You go get them yourself then. They are your grandsons.” 

She tried to protest then stopped herself then she looked to aunt-in-law. Jolene immediately averted. 

Then, her gaze fell on me.

“You!” I looked at her. “Go get them!”

Rayna and Jolene looked at me, visibly worried for me.

Well, how bad are they?

I got up, not because I take orders from the bitch i called my mother-in-law but because I wanted to be over and done with this dinner.

As i was leaving, i heard Rayna say, “She married uncle after the death of their mother, they might choke her to death when they see her.”

“Well then, that'd be good. She'd gotten rid of at last.” mother-in-law responded and Rayna snickered.

Because of this, I began to shake as I made it up the s-shaped stairs and towards their quarter. 

I saw Lily and stopped her to ask, “Where are my stepsons quarters?”

Saying stepsons just felt so wrong but I pretended it was normal.

“Oh, your right turn.” 

She said, pointing behind her back and left.

I made my way there, my heartbeat racing rapidly. I had no idea why. Maybe because I learnt their jobs yesterday and how rich they were and now they seem intimidating.

As I approached the East Wing, I began hearing muffled voices and soft chuckles. The voices began growing louder as I approached a mahogany wooden double-doors.

I swallowed as I slowly pushed it open, wind of cologne knocked me out of my senses as I stepped in, stopping before three built men with curious gaze.

Christian, Damon and Julian. They didn't stare, they glare and at that moment, I realized I just walked into a lion's den.
