Ciara's POV

"Ciara, all I want is to be by Keith's side. That'll be enough for me," Madeline Lively said with a smug little smile, lifting her chin at me.

I steadied my wineglass and let out a dry, humorless laugh.

"Did it really have to be done like this?"

The smile on her face froze. "Don't push it, Ciara."

My fiancé, Keith Hummel, frowned at me. This was the first time all evening he'd shown any emotion, and it was all in defense of someone else.

Sensing the awkwardness, my coworkers hurried to intervene.

"Ms. Coleman, we weren't trying to keep this from you on purpose. You're always so busy, and that's why Maddy married Mr. Hummel without telling you."

"Yeah. You should try to move on. Don't take it to heart."

"When did you get married?" I asked Keith, my voice so steady it surprised even me.

He avoided my gaze, his expression perfectly calm.

"Last Saturday."

Last Saturday… He'd sent me to pick up an important client that day. I waited at the airport for three hours, only to be told that I'd followed the navigation to the wrong location.

In the end, I sent him message after message, apologizing and promising I'd never make such a mistake again.

Only then did he reluctantly forgive me.

As it turned out, while he was spinning lies to make me feel sick with guilt, he was actually happily taking his young sweetheart to get married.

My eyes inexplicably started to sting.

I raised my glass and threw it back in one go, grabbed my purse, and walked out without looking back.

Behind me, one of my coworkers asked, "Mr. Hummel, aren't you worried Ms. Coleman will throw a tantrum at you?"

"She's always been sensible. She'll think it through on her own."

Always been sensible.

Yet once upon a time, everyone knew me as the spoiled, willful heiress. He was the one who showed up outside my dorm every day with flowers and a cup of coffee, saying, "Ciara, be with me, and you'll never have to learn to be sensible."

Later, for his sake, I fell out with my family and stood by his side as he built his business from scratch. We lived in basements, and I lost count of the cold shoulders we received. And just to bring in more investments for him, I drank until my stomach bled.

No matter how little he needed me to be "sensible", I had spent the past ten years quietly learning to be exactly that.

Back then, he'd hold me in his arms and swear that he'd give me a good life again. Eventually, he kept his promise. We got a bigger house and nicer cars.

And now, he was using that as an excuse to assume I'd accept whatever outrageous things he chose to do.

I pressed a hand to my chest, feeling like I couldn't breathe.

…

After taking a cab home, I stood staring at the wedding portrait hanging on the wall. The warm yellow light fell on the face of the man kneeling on one knee, kissing the back of my hand.

The illusion of happiness shattered, leaving behind nothing but mockery.

Without a second thought, I stepped forward and took the framed photo off the wall. Just as I was about to toss it into the storage room, Keith happened to come home.

He took one look at my expressionless face and took the frame from my hands.

"Ciara, you're not that young anymore," he said with a helpless sigh. "Can you stop throwing tantrums like Maddy? I don't have the energy to coddle you."

He spoke as if nothing had happened.

A faint citrus scent lingered in the air. It was the perfume Madeline always wore.

I fought back the nausea rising in my stomach and looked up at him.

"Why did it have to be today?"

Keith paused mid-motion, about to hang the wedding photo back on the wall.

"What?"

"Why choose to tell me the truth at the dinner party today?"

Why had he chosen to humiliate me in front of so many people when he clearly used to hate seeing me suffer more than anything?

The living room fell silent for a moment.

Keith lowered his hands and set the frame against the corner of the wall.

"It's her birthday today. I promised I'd make her happy."

My heart seemed to stop for a beat.

He turned back to look at me, completely failing to notice the change in my expression.

"Don't overthink it. My mentor raised me from childhood. Taking care of Maddy is the least I can do to repay that kindness. It's late. You should get some sleep."

With that, he turned and walked into the main bedroom without offering another word of explanation.

The wedding photo in the corner reflected a cold glow. The corners of my mouth twitched into a bitter smile as I called out to him in a low voice.

"Keith Hummel. You're not that young anymore, either."

So it was time for me to get myself a new groom, too.

Ciara's POV"Have you… been doing well?" Keith asked."Very well."I finally looked him straight in the eye, my voice calm. "I've been doing great without you."Keith visibly stiffened before he managed a strained smile. "That's good. That's… good. You received the things I had the lawyer pass along to you, right?"I nodded. "I have things to attend to. Please don't come looking for me again.""Cici."He stepped in front of me and hurriedly pulled a box from his pocket before opening it in front of me. Inside was a ring, a necklace, and even a miniature model of a wedding venue. The corners of his lips twitched. Suddenly, tears began rolling down his face."At the wedding, you asked me what I'd ever given you besides a title. And it seems… I really haven't given you anything at all."Noticing the wariness in my eyes, he quickly added, "Don't worry. I know I have no right to ask you to stay with me anymore. I had the ring and necklace custom-made. And the wedding model is beca

Third-Person POVBefore Keith could find Ciara, he received the asset division agreement sent by her lawyer, George Truman."Ms. Coleman's sole request is that the company shares that originally belonged to her be returned to her."Keith stared at George across the table, his expression dazed."That's it?""That's it."His chuckle echoed through the empty conference room. Of course. His Ciara could never bring herself to back him into a corner.George frowned at the man sitting across from him, who had his head bowed and couldn't stop laughing. Just as he was about to speak, Keith looked up, his eyes bloodshot."Can you tell me where she is?" he asked, his voice low. "I want to see her."Without an ounce of hesitation, George replied, "Ms. Coleman has fully authorized me to represent her in this matter. If you have any objections, Mr. Hummel, you can discuss them with me directly.""No objections."Keith looked away. "I'm just not satisfied with her demands. They're… too lit

Third-Person POV"What truth?" Keith asked, frowning.Madeline froze for a second. Then she hurriedly wiped away her tears and braced her hands against her knees as she struggled to stand. She only knew that her father had spent all his savings saving Keith's life, which left him broke and unable to treat his pneumonia when he contracted it later.Could there have been more to the story?Thomas wiped his tears and handed Keith the small box."My brother made me keep this from you for all these years. I'm sorry you were unfairly burdened, Keith. The truth is, someone else covered your medical expenses back then. It wasn't my younger brother who paid for your treatment.""How's that possible?" Madeline shrieked as her knees almost buckled. If it wasn't her father who had paid for Keith's treatment, then what right did she have to cling to Keith all these years?"If my dad hadn't used up all his money to save Keith, why couldn't he afford treatment for himself?"Thomas' eyes fill

Ciara's POVAs soon as the words left my mouth, an uproar swept through the room.Madeline stopped crying instantly, and her eyes darted around nervously. The staff members behind me began whispering among themselves, not even bothering to keep their voices down."Why is she calling the cops on this special day?""Haven't you figured it out yet? The groom actually wants to search the bride for that other woman. I'd say there's definitely something unspeakable going on between the two of them!"Madeline shot them a furious glare as she completely threw all reason to the wind."What do you mean something unspeakable? Keith and I are the couple here! Ciara's nothing but the homewrecker!"She was so caught up in her outburst that she failed to notice the growing disappointment in Keith's eyes behind her."Ms. Lively, watch what you're saying," Brandon said as he tightened his grip on my hand.He shot a glance at the bodyguards behind him, and in the next second, two of them stepp

Third-Person POVUnder the stunned looks of the wedding staff, Brandon Graham walked straight up to Ciara and took her hand."Ciara, you didn't reply to my messages. I got worried waiting for you, so I just came in on my own. You're not mad, are you?"He glanced at the bouquet in her hands and frowned. Then he gently took it from her and tossed it onto the floor."Don't hold that. It's dirty."Keith stood rooted to the spot, utterly dumbfounded. He recognized Brandon immediately.Ten years ago, he'd heard rumors that the Coleman and Graham families had betrothed their children to each other at a young age."What on earth is Brandon Graham doing here?" he growled inwardly. His eyes fell on the suit Brandon was wearing. It was the very suit Ciara had sewn by hand back when she dreamed of marrying him.A surge of irritation washed over him, and he didn't even notice when he pushed the sobbing Madeline from his arms. He glared at Ciara, his tone cold and dark."Ciara, even if you

Ciara's POVOn the wedding day, Keith's face visibly lit up when he saw me arrive at the wedding hall on time."I lost my temper that day. Maddy is my mentor's daughter, so I have to consider her feelings. Once we're married, I'll make it up to you, Ciara."His voice was gentle, as if the person who had slammed me against the wall that day wasn't him at all.Avoiding his outstretched hand, I grunted in response. At this point, I wasn't going to believe a single word out of his mouth. But when the makeup artist was working on me, Madeline walked in. She was wearing a mermaid-style wedding gown, looking more like a bride than I did."Ciara, you look beautiful today. I want to try on bridal makeup, too. Can you let the makeup team do mine first?"I looked at her through the mirror. "Are you sure about that?"Indignation flashed through her eyes. She pressed her lips together, then walked away, clearly unhappy."At the end of the day, it's still coming out of Keith's pocket, anywa
