Serena's Pov

Bella walked into the room with enthusiasm and I could tell she was so happy with the way her face brightened up.

“So, tomorrow should be the D-Day if I'm not mistaken.” She said with a big smile on her face.

“Yeah,” I said, and moved closer to the bed, then fell without hesitating.

My whole body felt relief and I could feel my bones relaxing the way I wanted them to, but the one thing which was restless was my mind.

How was it going to be, working with Adrian Volkov, who happens to be someone I'm not so certain that I can work with? But at the same time, I needed to pick myself up to show Samantha and that devil that they should never have taken advantage of me.

“Hello? "Earth to Serena?” Bella called out, looking curious about what was going on in my mind.

My eyelids blinked, and I let out a deep breath.

“Sorry, I guess I kind of traveled somewhere else.” I spoke, and sat up again.

“Tell me, aren't you happy to be given a chance? "You sounded way different earlier, and now, this?” Bella said, looking concerned about me.

“It's nothing, Bella. I guess I'm just trying to get a hold of myself after everything that has happened. "Maybe because I got a chance earlier than I thought, I'm trying to process my joy over it,” I said, not wanting her to worry about the little things I was a little edgy about.

“Alright, if you say so. "So, what's the major thing or hint Adrian Volkov could have given you in coming over to the office?” She asked as she sat beside me.

“Uhm… well, he told me not to dress to impress, but to dress like the woman I wanted to become. "I guess that's a thing to hold on to,” I replied, and brushed my hair to the back with my palms.

“Hmm… dress just like the woman you want to become. That's simple. "We should go for a little shopping, and think about the look you'd like people to see that could gradually make you climb the stairs of success.” Bella advised me, and I smiled.

“Alright, I could just check through the clothes I have in my wardrobe.”

“No… no. There's no way in the world you're doing that. We are going to head to the mall, and you're going to pick something suitable for tomorrow. Bills on me.” Bella said, making me open my mouth in surprise.

The fact that she was really giving her all for me just because she wanted me to get the job and gradually become who I wanted to be, was really nice and amazing. While I would have turned down her offer, I felt it was just the right thing to do, and it was best for me to enjoy what she was willing to help me with.

“Thanks a lot, Bella. I'll definitely repay you.” I said to her, appreciating her kindness.

“Repay me by turning out to be one of the best businesswomen. "I just want to be proud of you and be among those who helped you in struggling times, because I know you're definitely going to be big.” She winked, but before I could say anything, she grabbed my hand and dragged me up.

“Oh, my. "Slow down, Bella.” I urged her with a giggle, but she didn't listen.

She dragged me out of the room, and we headed outside, ready to do some serious shopping at the mall.

~

In about thirty minutes, we got to the mall, and Bella led me through different stalls to spot out the kind of clothes I would love to get, and while doing that, I ensured to look closely at the price tag before choosing it, because I wouldn't want to pick one and find out it was expensive, hereby moving Bella to pay for it.

This girl would definitely want to pay for it regardless of the capacity of her pocket.

“I'll take this and that.” I pointed to them and the shop attendants helped with every single choice that I made.

After shopping for three different outfits, we finally made our way to the counter.

“It's 250 dollars, ma’am.” One of the attendants informed Bella.

“Alright.” Bella responded without a single discomfort showing on her face, then she took out her card and handed it over to the attendant.

We waited patiently for them to swipe up the card and pack up everything we had bought.

After all that, we stepped out of the mall, and Bella let out a relaxed breath.

“It felt good.”

“Same here. And thanks again for showing up. I am really grateful.”

“Oh, come on, Serena. "I'll do anything for you. "We should head back so you can get some rest, and you'll wake up early tomorrow.” She urged me, and I nodded.

We hailed a cab which drove us back.

~

On getting back, I changed into the different outfits I got, and I felt so happy to have chosen them. They looked so good on me, and I was certain that Adrian Volkov would agree that I was serious about taking my job the right way.

Maybe if he saw the woman I wanted to become, there would be a little more respect in the way he talks to me and reduce the weirdness he gives off whenever he is in a conversation with me.

“We can do this, Serena. "You're going to come out strong, so get ready for tomorrow.” I said to myself as I pulled off the clothes and hung them somewhere close to where I could get the hang of them.

Then I went to bed, spreading my arms and legs as it made me feel more relaxed, allowing the chill breeze to caress my body.

~

It was morning and the moment I realized that, my drowsy eyes woke, and my mind was ready.

Time for the D-Day.

Adrien’s PovI sat in my office, staring at the pictures of Serena on my desk. There was one in particular, which was her laughing while holding a cup of coffee. Every time I looked at it, I felt my heart beam in joy. She had this light about her that could make even the darkest day brighter.I leaned back in my chair, a faint smile tugging at my lips.“You have no idea how much I love you, do you?” I murmured quietly to the picture.I was just glad that Serena was in my life, and that alone made everything worth it; the chaos, the endless responsibilities, even the danger that constantly followed me.Just as I was about to return to my paperwork, my phone buzzed on the desk. I frowned when I saw the caller ID because it wasn’t a number I had saved, but I recognized the pattern immediately. It was one of them.Slowly, I picked up the phone and placed it in my ear.“It’s time,” a deep voice said on the other end.I froze, my expression hardening. For a moment, I didn’t say anything. Th

Serena’s Pov“What are you doing?” I asked sharply as I heard the click of the lock behind me.Killian’s smirk grew wider, the kind of smirk that always meant trouble. “You wouldn’t have followed me here if I didn’t mention Theo,” he said, his voice sounding calm but cold. “I knew using our son’s name would work. You still have a soft spot for him, don’t you?”My brows furrowed. “Of course I do! He’s my son, Killian. Don’t twist things around.”He leaned against the door, crossing his arms like he was studying me. “Then why haven’t you come to visit him even once? What kind of mother stays away from her child for this long?”I clenched my fists, trying to control the tremor in my voice. “Don’t you dare make me feel guilty about that,” I snapped. “You know exactly why I didn’t come. Theo didn’t want to see me, remember? You made sure of that. You poisoned his mind against me!”Killian chuckled darkly and walked closer. “Poisoned his mind? No, Serena. I just told him the truth about

Serena’s PovI kept staring at the text from Killian for a long time, my fingers tapping against the desk as if they could drum away the thoughts running through my mind.“Sort what out exactly?” I said again as I thought about his text.I so much wanted to ignore it. I wanted to pretend I hadn’t seen it. But no matter how much I tried to push it out of my mind, the words kept replaying in my head.I sighed and leaned back in my chair. If I told Adrien about it, he would definitely be upset. He didn’t like it when Killian came up in conversations, and honestly, I didn’t blame him. But if I told him, he would probably want to come with me or ask too many questions, and that would only make things complicated. No, I couldn’t do that to him. He had been nothing but supportive, trusting me when the entire internet was filled with chaos over Killian’s drama. The least I could do was not make him worry about this. So, I picked up my phone and typed a short text to Killian.“I’ll be there.”

Serena’s PovI sat there in my office, frozen for a few seconds, just staring at the message on my screen. I never expected that Killian would send such and my mind had never gone there ever since he told me to leave the house and his life.“In case you're not aware, beautiful, I never signed our divorce papers, neither did I finalize it. You know what that means.”I read it again slowly, as if the words might somehow change. They didn’t. The longer I looked at it, the tighter my chest felt. My hand trembled slightly as I placed the phone on the table and leaned back in my chair, rubbing my temples. What exactly was he trying to say? That we were still legally married? Oh, no.A small laugh escaped me, one that didn’t sound amused at all, and I shook my head. “Unbelievable,” I muttered under my breath.Killian always found new ways to push me to the edge. He was manipulative, smart, and very intentional with his moves. He knew how to get under my skin, and he was doing it again. Why

Serena’s PovThe next morning started off in a calm atmosphere, and everything felt lighter than it had in a while. I woke up feeling proud of myself for how far things had gone. The press conference was still trending everywhere, and I could tell that it was eating Killian up inside. That was the plan all along; to break him slowly, the same way he once broke me.By the time I got to work, my mind was already set for the day. There were reports to check, documents to sign, and meetings to schedule. I sat behind my desk and flipped through the papers one after another. My pen moved quickly as I reviewed each one, making notes where needed.“Just how calm the atmosphere should be,” I said to myself with a smile. My smile was a constant thing today, and it was expected because my plan was unfolding perfectly. The satisfaction of knowing that everything was finally under my control filled me with a deep sense of relief. When it was afternoon, I dropped my pen, stretched my arms, and look

Third-person PovKillian sat on the edge of his couch, his jaw clenched tightly as he stared blankly at the television screen in front of him. The video of Serena’s press conference had ended long ago, yet her words still echoed in his head like a haunting memory.“I am not interested in Killian Blackwood and never will be.” Those were the words that kept echoing in his mind.He ran his hand through his hair and groaned, the frustration bubbling up inside him like a volcano about to erupt. The public humiliation was one thing, but hearing her say his name in that cold, detached tone, like he was nothing but a nuisance, had hurt deeper than he expected. He had sent her flowers, letters, gifts, everything he thought might soften her heart and she had thrown it all back in his face. In front of the world.“What the hell did I even do wrong?” he muttered under his breath, pacing into the living room. His shoes clicked against the tiled floor as he moved back and forth, restless.
