Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
I searched through my handbag for a while, but the check was nowhere to be found. It hit me then that Julie had touched my handbag earlier just as I was leaving. I immediately tried to call her, only to find that her phone was turned off.

I quickly rushed downstairs, hailed a cab, and went straight to her place. I noticed that she wasn't home yet, so I waited outside. It wasn't long before Julie showed up, looking completely drenched from the rain.

Upon seeing me, Julie immediately sneered. "I figured once you got in Mr. Greene's Rolls-Royce, you'd be swept up by the luxury and wouldn't be seen again. You ought to know that being a rich man's wife isn't easy, Queenie. Those people will use you up until there's nothing left.

"I never noticed before how little integrity you had, selling yourself for money. It's a good thing that you have me here by your side. I'll show you the right way to live and what it means to be a person of real honor."

I wasn't in the mood to listen to her ramblings. I went right up to her and asked, "Is the check with you?"

Julie's expression faltered slightly before returning to calm. "What check? Why would I have a check that wasn't even meant for me?"

I knew her far too well to be fooled, able to tell right away that she was lying. I took out my phone and pretended to call the police, saying, "In that case, since the check is missing, someone must have stolen it. I'll just have to call the police, then."

I barely finished my sentence when Julie suddenly snatched my phone away in a panic. "What's the big deal? Why are you calling the police over something so trivial?

"That check was never supposed to be yours, anyway! Do you even know what kind of trouble you're getting yourself into? You're just setting yourself up for disaster!"

I merely snorted in response, knowing that my family would be done for without that check. I held out my hand and demanded, "You'd better hand over the check, Julie. Otherwise, I'm calling the police."

Julie, though exposed, didn't even show the slightest hint of shame. Instead, she bristled with indignation, asking, "You don't seriously think I took that check for myself, do you?"

I cocked my brow and asked, "Why did you take it, then?"

Julie looked at me, pretending to be disappointed. "I was only trying to keep you from going astray, Queenie! I mean, we might be poor, but we're not without honor.

"Dignity and integrity are more important than anything in this life. What's the difference between selling yourself for money and being nothing more than a shell of a person? We—"

I cut her off mid-sentence and thrust my hand into her coat pocket.

Julie frantically held onto the check, refusing to let go. "You've completely lost your mind over money, Queenie! You'll stay lost in your delusions forever if I don't step in!"

She then moved in a flash, ripping the check to shreds. "You'll finally be able to think straight now that the check is gone! You can't just lose all sense of right and wrong for money, Queenie!"

I saw a flicker of satisfaction crossing her eyes after she tore the check. Julie thought that she had won and left me with nothing, but she couldn't have been more wrong.

It was from that day onward that Julie kept calling and texting me, using every excuse imaginable to pressure me into getting an abortion.

In the meantime, she was also busy doing something else—building up her "holier-than-thou" persona on Instagram, all while making sure I couldn't see it by blocking me.

It was Connor who told me about this. There Julie was, telling me to keep my distance from him, all while secretly following him on Instagram behind my back as my "best friend".

Julie's Instagram posts were mostly pictures of her hard at work at her desk, with captions full of positive platitudes. "Never lose your dignity, even when you're poor and exhausted. Build your own future, and do not give in to temptations! You can do it! You can be the main character of your own story!"

Connor then forwarded me surveillance footage from his company. It showed Julie waiting for a long time outside his company until he finally came out. She then walked up to him, only to twist her ankle in her high heel, tumbling straight into his arms.

She immediately pulled away with her head held high, saying, "You'd better not think you can use money to get to me just because I'm Queenie's friend. You ought to know that even if we're poor, we still have our pride—we won't sell our dignity for money!"

Connor stared at Julie with an expression reserved for a fool before snapping, "Security!"

I couldn't help but burst out laughing after seeing that.

Julie threw herself at Connor, grabbing his leg. "Please tell me this isn't real, Connor. It was you that night, wasn't it? It had to be you! I'm sure Queenie is behind all this! She must have tampered with the footage!"Connor didn't even spare her a glance, kicking her away and saying, "It's the surveillance footage from the hotel. You can go check it out yourself if you don't believe it."I have no idea who that baby's father is, since I just had someone grab a random guy from a bar that night. You'll have to go find out for yourself if you want to know who it is."Upon hearing that, Julie collapsed, as if every ounce of strength had deserted her. She looked up at me a moment later, her gaze seething with malice. "You're the one behind all of this, aren't you, Queenie?" I smiled faintly, thinking that she wasn't that foolish, after all. It had indeed been my plan all along. That night, I had proposed the idea to Connor once I reached the bar. Yet, if Julie hadn't been so desper

Upon seeing Julie's reaction, the livestream viewers instantly understood everything."Holy shit! It turns out that you're the one who tried to drug Mr. Greene! You've been pretending to be so righteous this whole time!""You livestream every day, preaching about working hard and earning a living of your own, yet here you are, using a baby to climb the social ladder.""How can Julie be so vile?"Julie tried to defend herself, but she had no proof to offer. She had, after all, tried to drug Connor. She then raised her head and glared at me, barking, "You fucking bitch!"I immediately slapped her hard across the face, knocking her to the ground. "You have a lot of nerve calling me that, given all the horrible things you've done, Julie!"Julie's gaze flickered for a moment before she scrambled to her feet and threw herself at Connor. "I'll admit it—I was the one who drugged you. I only did it because I love you so much, Connor."Queenie has already given birth to your baby, so I ha

Upon hearing Connor's question, Julie shyly lowered her head and replied, "You see, we both had too much to drink at the bar that night. Have you forgotten, Connor?"Connor smiled faintly, replying, "I certainly haven't forgotten that night. I recall that you were the only one drunk that night, though. I was sober the whole time."Upon hearing that, Julie's eyes immediately lit up, thinking that Connor had been sober and had deliberately chosen to sleep with her that night. "Is that so? You were actually sober that night, huh? I thought—"Julie couldn't help but smile shyly at that thought, but what Connor said next left her completely stunned."It was precisely because I was fully sober that I knew for a fact I wasn't with you that night."Immediately, Julie shook her head, looking deathly pale. "T-That can't be true. You were obviously drunk that night, Connor. You probably don't remember what happened.""How are you so sure that I was drunk that night?" Connor asked."I…" Jul

Julie's proclamation immediately took the entire internet by storm."Holy shit! It turns out Julie really is pregnant with Mr. Greene's baby!""Isn't this getting too absurd? They already turned against each other, but their children ended up being half-siblings!""Didn't Julie claim that Queenie was the one who drugged Mr. Greene? Did Julie try the same tactic on Mr. Greene herself, then?"In the end, the whole thing blew up online and was all anyone could talk about.I asked coldly, "Didn't you lecture me about not taking handouts from the rich and tell me to get an abortion before this, Julie? Why don't you get an abortion now that you're pregnant?"Upon hearing that, Julie's eyes welled up with even more tears. "I didn't understand before what a child means to a mother. I get it now, though—this is my darling baby, and I'm going to give birth to it. It's just that I can't let it be fatherless!"She then turned to Connor with a pleading look, adding, "I'm carrying your baby,

In the end, as soon as the news circulated, the Greenes finally caught wind of it. Connor, naturally, was aware that Julie was spewing lies. His family didn't, though, so they went and launched their own investigation into the matter.I asked Connor to forward me the surveillance footage, though I had no intention of releasing it immediately. In the meantime, by slandering me online and flaunting her beauty along with a facade of moral superiority, Julie vaulted herself into the spotlight as an online influencer. In only a matter of days, her follower count shot up to two or three million.Julie's greed knew no bounds, though—she refused to stop there. I was well aware that her final objective wasn't fame. Her true aim was to marry into the Greene family—the richest family in Brookhaven—and become Connor's wife. …That day, I received a call from Connor. "Julie really has some nerve trying to drug me. I was about to deal with her straightaway, but then I figured I'd check with yo

I shoved Julie away, looked at her deranged expression, and replied with a sneer, "Yes, this is Connor's baby—and mine."Julie's eyes widened in shock, her face draining of all color.I dealt her another blow, adding, "I've already received 60 million dollars since I've given birth to the baby."Upon hearing that, Julie's eyes rolled back in her head, and she nearly collapsed from the shock. She then steadied herself, pointed at me, and snapped, "You're truly despicable, Queenie! You actually sold your body and integrity for 60 million dollars! You're no better than a beast!"I don't believe for a second that Connor was drugged! I bet you planned this whole thing!" I was so furious that I couldn't help but let out an exasperated laugh, but before I could even say anything, Connor intervened, frowning as he stepped in front of me."You ought to know that Queenie is my child's mother, and I won't tolerate anyone slandering her, Ms. Sutton. Do you want to find out how good my lawye
