Chapter 4

Author: Perfect Timing
It was a week later when Connor dropped by my place to check on me.

I had no idea how Julie found out about it, but she soon also showed up at my place and launched into an impassioned tirade.

"Have you come to your senses yet, Queenie? You can't keep this baby—it's a result of a terrible mistake! If you go through with this, I can't be your friend anymore, and you'll be a source of shame to everyone you know!"

Upon seeing that I was ignoring her, Julie headed straight for Connor. With a glint flashing in her eyes, she pulled the same stunt again, stumbling forward and falling directly into Connor's embrace.

I didn't miss the brief, triumphant glint in her eyes.

However, Connor merely stepped to the side, causing Julie to fall to the ground and wince in pain. She looked up at Conor with a delicate, fragile expression, tears glistening in her eyes as she bravely held them back.

"You can rest assured that even though my family doesn't have much and that you're Brookhaven's heir, I'm not going to try to get money out of you for this tiny scrape. I may be poor, but I still possess my dignity!"

Connor stared down at her, saying coldly, "I have an excellent lawyer who is good at handling staged-accident scams. Do you care to see for yourself?"

Julie's expression froze before she scrambled to her feet and hurried to my side. "You can't accept handouts like this! Otherwise, you'll completely lose your self-respect! What matters most in this life is your reputation and your dignity, Queenie.

"You see, poverty is no excuse to abandon one's principles. I've already scheduled an appointment with the doctor for you, so please trust me on this."

I had heard that same speech so many times that I was sick of it. I merely responded with a dismissive nod and ushered her out.

In the days that followed, Julie pulled out all the stops—pressuring me to end the pregnancy and parading her so-called integrity in front of Connor.

I was in the middle of packing my belongings when Julie suddenly called. "Haven't you realized your mistake yet, Queenie? When are you going to get the abortion? I'll come along with you."

"That won't be necessary since I'm going abroad."

Upon hearing that, Julie immediately started making her own assumptions. "I get it now! You're worried that the Greene family might come after you if you stay in Caledonia, right? Is that why you're planning to go abroad to get rid of the baby?"

I merely replied with a noncommittal hum, and she immediately brightened up. "That's great, Queenie! As poor as we are, we still have to hold on to our integrity and not let ourselves be manipulated by the rich! I'll help you find a lawyer to take Connor—that bastard—to court once you return!"

I could tell by her voice that she was thrilled, but she had no idea that I was actually going abroad to have the baby.

Thanks to Connor's arrangements, I was soon out of the country, where I spent my days relaxing, eating, and sleeping. Thus, as the days went by, I finally gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

I handed over the baby to the Greenes once I received 60 million dollars in my bank account and made arrangements to return to Caledonia to see my parents.

I had just returned to Caledonia for a few days when Connor sought me out again. He explained that the childcare expert had recommended that a baby needed to bond with its mother from the start, so he dragged me to the shopping mall to buy baby supplies.

However, upon leaving the store, I received a message from Julie. "When are you returning to Caledonia, Queenie? I've already found you a lawyer, who will make sure Connor gets the longest prison sentence possible!"

I didn't bother to text her back, but as luck would have it, we ran right into her when we turned around. Julie was clinging to the arm of a hefty man with a protruding belly, her other hand flaunting several shopping bags plastered with flashy designer logos.

Upon seeing us, Julie's expression twisted with panic. She hurried over, her gaze flicking back and forth between Connor and me, as well as the baby stroller at our side.

Then, in a fit of frenzy, she grabbed me by the throat and shrieked, "You said you had an abortion, Queenie! Where did this child come from?"

Julie threw herself at Connor, grabbing his leg. "Please tell me this isn't real, Connor. It was you that night, wasn't it? It had to be you! I'm sure Queenie is behind all this! She must have tampered with the footage!"Connor didn't even spare her a glance, kicking her away and saying, "It's the surveillance footage from the hotel. You can go check it out yourself if you don't believe it."I have no idea who that baby's father is, since I just had someone grab a random guy from a bar that night. You'll have to go find out for yourself if you want to know who it is."Upon hearing that, Julie collapsed, as if every ounce of strength had deserted her. She looked up at me a moment later, her gaze seething with malice. "You're the one behind all of this, aren't you, Queenie?" I smiled faintly, thinking that she wasn't that foolish, after all. It had indeed been my plan all along. That night, I had proposed the idea to Connor once I reached the bar. Yet, if Julie hadn't been so desper

Upon seeing Julie's reaction, the livestream viewers instantly understood everything."Holy shit! It turns out that you're the one who tried to drug Mr. Greene! You've been pretending to be so righteous this whole time!""You livestream every day, preaching about working hard and earning a living of your own, yet here you are, using a baby to climb the social ladder.""How can Julie be so vile?"Julie tried to defend herself, but she had no proof to offer. She had, after all, tried to drug Connor. She then raised her head and glared at me, barking, "You fucking bitch!"I immediately slapped her hard across the face, knocking her to the ground. "You have a lot of nerve calling me that, given all the horrible things you've done, Julie!"Julie's gaze flickered for a moment before she scrambled to her feet and threw herself at Connor. "I'll admit it—I was the one who drugged you. I only did it because I love you so much, Connor."Queenie has already given birth to your baby, so I ha

Upon hearing Connor's question, Julie shyly lowered her head and replied, "You see, we both had too much to drink at the bar that night. Have you forgotten, Connor?"Connor smiled faintly, replying, "I certainly haven't forgotten that night. I recall that you were the only one drunk that night, though. I was sober the whole time."Upon hearing that, Julie's eyes immediately lit up, thinking that Connor had been sober and had deliberately chosen to sleep with her that night. "Is that so? You were actually sober that night, huh? I thought—"Julie couldn't help but smile shyly at that thought, but what Connor said next left her completely stunned."It was precisely because I was fully sober that I knew for a fact I wasn't with you that night."Immediately, Julie shook her head, looking deathly pale. "T-That can't be true. You were obviously drunk that night, Connor. You probably don't remember what happened.""How are you so sure that I was drunk that night?" Connor asked."I…" Jul

Julie's proclamation immediately took the entire internet by storm."Holy shit! It turns out Julie really is pregnant with Mr. Greene's baby!""Isn't this getting too absurd? They already turned against each other, but their children ended up being half-siblings!""Didn't Julie claim that Queenie was the one who drugged Mr. Greene? Did Julie try the same tactic on Mr. Greene herself, then?"In the end, the whole thing blew up online and was all anyone could talk about.I asked coldly, "Didn't you lecture me about not taking handouts from the rich and tell me to get an abortion before this, Julie? Why don't you get an abortion now that you're pregnant?"Upon hearing that, Julie's eyes welled up with even more tears. "I didn't understand before what a child means to a mother. I get it now, though—this is my darling baby, and I'm going to give birth to it. It's just that I can't let it be fatherless!"She then turned to Connor with a pleading look, adding, "I'm carrying your baby,

In the end, as soon as the news circulated, the Greenes finally caught wind of it. Connor, naturally, was aware that Julie was spewing lies. His family didn't, though, so they went and launched their own investigation into the matter.I asked Connor to forward me the surveillance footage, though I had no intention of releasing it immediately. In the meantime, by slandering me online and flaunting her beauty along with a facade of moral superiority, Julie vaulted herself into the spotlight as an online influencer. In only a matter of days, her follower count shot up to two or three million.Julie's greed knew no bounds, though—she refused to stop there. I was well aware that her final objective wasn't fame. Her true aim was to marry into the Greene family—the richest family in Brookhaven—and become Connor's wife. …That day, I received a call from Connor. "Julie really has some nerve trying to drug me. I was about to deal with her straightaway, but then I figured I'd check with yo

I shoved Julie away, looked at her deranged expression, and replied with a sneer, "Yes, this is Connor's baby—and mine."Julie's eyes widened in shock, her face draining of all color.I dealt her another blow, adding, "I've already received 60 million dollars since I've given birth to the baby."Upon hearing that, Julie's eyes rolled back in her head, and she nearly collapsed from the shock. She then steadied herself, pointed at me, and snapped, "You're truly despicable, Queenie! You actually sold your body and integrity for 60 million dollars! You're no better than a beast!"I don't believe for a second that Connor was drugged! I bet you planned this whole thing!" I was so furious that I couldn't help but let out an exasperated laugh, but before I could even say anything, Connor intervened, frowning as he stepped in front of me."You ought to know that Queenie is my child's mother, and I won't tolerate anyone slandering her, Ms. Sutton.
