I didn't react like before. Just stood there, watching them.

Before, I would've blown up at Jocelyn—then ended up apologizing anyway.

That's what she expected this time.

Jocelyn glanced at me, unfazed, then grabbed Calvin's arm and hurried him into the living room.

"This is your first time reacting like this. That's a good start. Does it feel swollen? Sit—let me check. What matters most right now is breaking down your mental blocks. Hold it like this—better? Yeah, keep that rhythm. Try it yourself. Not too hard. Tomorrow night, we'll try again."

Her soft voice mixed with Calvin's heavy breathing.

Each second dug deeper into my chest.

I shut the bedroom door, dropped onto the cold floor, and texted my former assistant.

[Mason, bring the divorce papers tomorrow. Follow what we discussed.]

The reply came fast:

[Yes, sir!]

[Mrs. Flint really doesn't know what's good for her!]

My chest tightened. I didn't reply.

A second later, my phone rang. My dad.

Before he could say a word, I cut him off, voice rough. "Dad, I'll take over the company. I start tomorrow."

He laughed, relieved. "Good. As long as you're back. Men in this family know how to start over."

After I hung up, the pressure in my chest eased a little.

Jocelyn took Calvin straight to the study, said she needed to monitor her patient's progress.

The faint sounds through the door made everything feel unreal.

For two years, I gave everything to this relationship—even put up with a grown man hovering around my wife.

And what did I get?

My dignity, crushed under their feet.

It took a while before Jocelyn came back.

She saw me in the living room, cheeks flushed, a hint of exhaustion on her face.

"Finley, are you trying to start something again? You're Calvin's brother-in-law. No matter what, you shouldn't have said that today. If you don't ease the pain in his heart, don't even think about showing up in front of me again."

I said nothing.

Maybe she got impatient. She tossed something down and stormed into the bedroom, locking the door.

I stayed up all night in the living room.

At dawn, Jocelyn walked past me and left with Calvin. Then her father, Robert, called.

The second I picked up, he started cursing. "Finley, you getting bold now? How dare you upset Jocelyn!

"So what if Calvin stays at your place? He's her brother. What's inappropriate about that? Only someone dirty would think that way!

"Here's what you're gonna do—today's Calvin's birthday. Bring a lawyer, get it notarized, and put Calvin's name on your mansion. Then apologize and compensate him. We'll call it even."

I almost laughed.

When I didn't answer, his voice turned even sharper.

"Don't push your luck. If this gets back to Jocelyn, it won't just be about the house!"

Before I could say anything, a message popped up in the neighborhood group chat.

A photo.

Jocelyn and Calvin stood close in the underground garage.

Her hands rested on his waist, their eyes soft.

His arm wrapped around her, his hand slipping like it was about to go under her clothes.

The chat blew up, tagging me nonstop.

[@Finley, your wife... that guy doesn't look like you.]

I gripped my phone tighter.

Robert was still yelling in my ear.

I lowered my head and let out a dry laugh.

I thought everything I'd done for the Gills these past two years would earn their approval.

Now I got it.

To them, I was never a person.

Just a rich idiot for Jocelyn to use—a walking ATM.

I tightened my grip, steadied my voice. "Robert, I'll be there soon. We can sign then."

Only then did he stop ranting.

His tone flipped, suddenly pleased. "That's more like it. Use your head and Jocelyn will like you just fine. It's Calvin's birthday—don't forget something expensive."

I didn't answer.

All I felt was cold.

A year passed. With me in charge, Flint Corp hit a whole new level. My parents kept pushing me to settle down. I wasn't interested. That night, the company threw a celebration banquet. I finished my speech, stepped offstage, and a reporter stopped me."Mr. Flint, you still owe us that interview. If I don't file it today, I'm getting fired."I paused. A few days ago, I'd had an emergency trip and had to postpone. But I'd set it up for the VP to handle. It shouldn't have affected them.So who was she?I looked her over. Something about her felt familiar."Vivian Vance?"She raised a brow, smiling. "Not too slow. You recognized me."Honestly? Barely.Vivian had been my neighbor. Back in our teens, she moved overseas with her parents. It'd been almost twenty years."What? Twenty years and no dinner, Mr. CEO?"I smiled. "Wrong title. I'm chairman, not CEO."Her lips twitched. That night, we had dinner at a five-star hotel near the office. She said she wanted to see my pare

The second she got back on her feet, she wouldn't let him walk away clean. He crouched, leaning in close to her ear. "Here's a tip. Your dad's already hooked on gambling. Keep wasting time on me, and when the debt collectors show up—"He didn't finish.Jocelyn snapped her head up.Her eyes were bloodshot, burning with hate."Calvin! You destroyed my family. I'll make you pay!"The second the words left her, she snatched the fruit knife and lunged.Calvin was stronger. Way stronger. In seconds, he flipped her and pinned her down, the knife forced against her.A cold glint flashed in his eyes."You're asking for it. Don't bla

The door flew open—Calvin was already there, cramming clothes into his suitcase.Jocelyn's face lit up as she walked over."Calvin, what are you doing? Found a new place? That's great, but... why are you only packing your stuff?"She frowned, clueless. The guy in front of her wasn't the Calvin she thought she knew. She kept going. Calvin snapped and shoved her aside."Move. Can't you see I'm packing? Why are you just standing there? Jocelyn, wake up. You really think I'd take you with me?"The act dropped. With every word, the shutters fired faster.By the end, the noise was about to swallow Jocelyn whole. She grabbed her head, shaking."You're lying! I was at the hospital the whole time! Finley, you just want to ruin me!"I let out a cold laugh. Just as I was about to speak, an older man rushed over.Robert.One look, and he got it.He dropped to the ground and started wailing."You ungrateful son-in-law! After all these years, when did my family ever wrong you? And now you stab us in the back and try to destroy my daughter!"He went full drama, pulling a crowd in seconds.I almost laughed. "So you're really gonna sit here and not leave?"If that's how they wanted it, fine.I pulled out my phone and played the video.Jocelyn swaying against Calvin. Both drunk. Jocelyn showed up at my old office every day, causing a scene from morning to night. She finally stopped when someone told her I'd already quit.So she went to Flint Corp instead.Big mistake. A year ago, you wanted to invest in my clinic. It wasn't stable, so I said no. And you held onto that till now? Flint Corp's huge—why go after some small clinic?"If it's about my brother... we grew up together. There's nothing between us. Just because I'm married doesn't mean I cut off my family."You just thin

"Flint Corp? You're the heir to that Flint family?!"She stared at me, disbelief written all over her face. The man she used to order around—was the heir behind Flint Corp. Her voice shook.Calvin stood there, just as stunned, shaking his head at me.Jocelyn snapped out of it first. She shoved him aside and rushed over, grabbing my sleeve.A forced smile stretched across her face—overly sweet, fake in a way I'd never seen from her before."Finley... so you're that Flint heir. All these years, it was you supporting me."Regret flashed in her eyes. Then she forced out a few tears."With that kind of background, why didn't you tell me? If I neglected you before, it was because of Calvin. I know how it looked between us, but everything I did was because I love you."I frowned. I already knew where this was going."You know his condition has always weighed on me. If he's not cured, it'll haunt me—it'll affect us. Back then, you were willing to risk your life to win me over.
