Chapter 1

The sound of a powerful slap landing on my cheek rang through the air.

Half of my face turned numb in an instant, and there was a buzzing in my ear. The metallic taste of blood permeated my taste buds.

My head snapped to the side, my messy hair falling over my face and hiding the cold glint in my eyes.

The woman who slapped me was none other than my own mother, Delilah Grant. Her face twisted as she pointed a finger at me.

"Talia Sanders, you shameless woman! Why on earth did the Sanders family end up with such a despicable daughter like you? How dare you cheat during SAT of all things? The Sanders family's reputation is in shambles because of your greed and vanity!"

The hall was packed with people since the exam had just concluded. The crowd consisted of curious students and steely-faced teachers.

Layla Sanders, the fake heiress of the Sanders family, stood to the side, covering her face as she sobbed quietly. Tears streamed down her face. She looked incredibly frail, reminiscent of a white flower swaying in the wind, drawing sympathy from anyone who laid eyes on her.

"Don't hurt Talia, Mom. It's all my fault," she blubbered as she carefully tugged on Mom's sleeve. "It's my fault. I shouldn't have done so well during the exams and put so much pressure on Talia.

"She just wants you and Dad to acknowledge her so badly. That must be the reason why she caved in to her wayward thoughts and decided to copy my answers. If Talia's going to be disqualified, I won't enroll in college either. I'll retake the final year with her…"

It was an immensely touching display of sisterly love, if I ignored the fact that I had personally seen Layla tamper with my car brakes and cackle wickedly during my funeral in my past life.

The same thing had happened in my previous life.

After the exam was over, my homeroom teacher, Richard Hoffman, had stepped forward to accuse me of cheating, claiming that my answers were identical to Layla's.

I hadn't been able to defend myself when faced with two sets of exam papers that had the exact same answers.

To protect Layla's reputation as a top scholar and to save their pride, the Sanders family didn't hesitate to sacrifice me. They coerced me into admitting that I had cheated during the exam and forced me to drop out of school.

They also sent me to a mental hospital to stop me from saying anything I shouldn't.

I was tortured for three whole years during my time there.

I managed to escape during a stormy night, but in the end, I died at the hands of Layla, who had meticulously planned the car accident that took my life.

Right before I took my last breath, I finally understood that even though I was the real heiress of the Sanders family, in their eyes, I was nothing but trash that could be disposed of at any time.

Layla was the only one they cared about. She was their precious treasure that they had cherished for the last 18 years.

When I opened my eyes again after that, I had found myself transported back to the final day of SAT.

I slowly raised my head in the face of Mom's furious shouts, wiping the blood from the corner of my lips. My eyes were calm like a still lake.

"You're accusing me of cheating, but do you have proof, Mom?"

Mom was briefly stunned by my question, looking as if she hadn't expected me to talk back to her when I had always been so timid in the past. Her temper exploded a few seconds later.

"Proof? Mr. Hoffman has already provided all the proof we need! What else do you have to say for yourself?"

The color drained from Dad's face. His lips trembled, but he couldn't say a word. After all, I had seen right through him and exposed his nefarious schemes.I turned around and addressed the media."I'd like to use this opportunity to clarify some things. I, Talia Sanders, have nothing to do with the Sanders family of Asterville. I achieved what I did thanks to my mentors' guidance and the country's support. My success has nothing to do with the blood that runs through my veins."As for the shares of Sanders Group," I said as I shot a mocking look at Dad. "You can keep them and use them during your senior years. Although, according to what I've heard, there's probably only about a day or two left before you'll be forced to declare bankruptcy."I turned around after I was done speaking, not bothering to spare them another glance."Don't go, Talia! How can you be so cruel? I'm your father! You'll be punished for your transgressions!" Dad roared before the security guards dragged him

Mom and Dad reappeared just as I thought that the dust had settled and I was preparing to welcome my new life. They waited for me in front of the school gates, camped out in front of the laboratories, and even tried to bribe the security guards.Unfortunately for them, the security guards hired to maintain security at the National University of Defense Science weren't people who could be bribed by mere entrepreneurs like them.…The orientation for the junior program was held a month later. The university's president placed great importance on the event since talented students from all over the country were joining the program. Thus, he decided to host the banquet in the most upscale convention center in the heart of the city.Countless media outlets and financial tycoons were present at the banquet.Dad used all the connections he had to secure two tickets in the standing area located furthest away from the stage. When George and I went up on stage and stood under the spotligh

In my past life, I hid my talents to get on the Sanders family's good side. I even attributed some of my research results to Layla, which ultimately helped build her image as a young genius. In this life, I was no longer interested in pretending to be someone I wasn't.Right before SAT started, I sent my thesis that would rock the entire world to George.I had submitted a blank paper not only to humiliate the Sanders family, but also to completely cut ties with them and my past."Okay. I'll go with you," I said calmly.Layla crumpled to the floor. Her eyes shone with hopelessness and jealousy. No matter how much she tried, she couldn't wrap her head around the fact that I was a genius even though I grew up in the sticks. She also couldn't believe that George had personally invited me to go to the university with him.Dad finally snapped back to his senses upon hearing that I was leaving. He immediately presented himself as a doting father and rushed forward to grab my hands. "I

The papers floated through the air before scattering all over the floor. The people who were present reached out to grab them, gasping in surprise when they got a good look at them."The winner of the provincial math tournament was none other than Talia!""She also won the national physics competition! That's amazing!""Oh my god. She was also the previous provincial high school top scholar!"Dad was too stunned to speak.Meanwhile, Richard had gone pale. "That's impossible… She's just a country bumpkin. How can she be a genius?" he muttered.Ashton stepped forward and delivered his ultimatum. "Richard, you planted fake evidence to frame a student even though you're a teacher. You're a disgrace to the academic field. Officers, this is an extremely serious crime. Please be sure to conduct a thorough investigation!"Richard nearly had a mental breakdown upon hearing his words. He fell to his knees before pointing at Layla and screaming, "It wasn't me! I didn't plan this! It was L

The rest of my exam paper was displayed on the screen. Both sections were blank, including the mathematics, and reading and writing. All four sections totaled to 1,600 points. I submitted a blank paper, which meant that I had scored zero points.Chaos erupted in the comments section of the live stream."She's got some guts to submit a blank paper during SAT. Hats off to her!""If she actually cheated during the exam, I can only say that she's not very good at it…""Hold on. If Talia submitted a blank paper, why was Mr. Hoffman so sure that Layla and Talia's answers were identical?""What a terribly meticulous plan! They were planning on framing her from the start!"Mom and Dad's jaws had slackened.Richard looked as if he had been struck by lightning. His lips trembled as he murmured, "This… This is impossible…"The color had drained from Layla's face, and she was frozen like a statue. She couldn't understand why my paper was blank. She had seen with her own two eyes how I ha

I raised my hand and calmly said, "That's me."Mom and Dad's faces paled at the arrival of the staff members from the Department of Education. The situation was escalating. They just wanted to quietly get rid of me while I was still in school and didn't expect the authorities to get involved—and that too, at the provincial level.Meanwhile, Richard felt as if his legs had turned to jelly. Sweat drenched the back of his shirt. He convinced himself that things would be fine since my results were usually abysmal, so even if my request to examine the papers was approved, my score would be low or even zero.As long as he insisted that I had cheated during the exam, things would still work out in his favor.Richard pointed at me and shouted, "That's her, Mr. Peters! Not only did she cheat during the exam, but she also disrupted school order! I have proof that she hid her cheating materials in her desk!"Ashton glanced at him and said coldly, "We will verify the evidence later, but for
