Chapter 0001

Helma King was fast asleep in the middle of the night when she suddenly felt her clothes being ripped apart.

She opened her eyes in panic.

It was Cole Guller, her legal husband.

His expression was as cold as ever. Even though he was doing the most intimate act with her at this moment, he did not bother to look at her tenderly.

In their two years of marriage, he had been home no more than ten times.

Helma's face paled as she bit her lips in recollection. However, she was gradually losing consciousness before finally passing out under Cole’s ruthless ravaging.

Early the next morning, sunlight shone on the bed through the gap in the bedroom curtains.

Helma woke up slowly and grimaced as she felt the pain all over her body.

She turned her head and realized that the place beside her was cold.

Cole was long gone.

She was used to it by now.

Helma got up from the bed, her movements slow due to the excruciating pain in her body. She changed into the clothes next to the bed and cleaned up the mess.

Clack!

She heard a soft noise behind her.

Helma turned and saw Cole walking in through the open door in his suit and leather shoes.

Cole, a man of high status, always displayed an air of arrogance and snobbery.

Helma was startled. She asked in surprise, “Why haven’t you left for work yet?”

“Eat this.” Cole ignored her question and handed her something instead.

Helma took it by reflex. She lowered her head and turned the box in her hand before she saw the words.

They were contraceptive pills.

Unconsciously, she gripped the box tightly. She lowered her head and whispered, “Cole, I don’t want to take this. I…”

“Take it,” Cole said with a frown, interrupting Helma’s unfinished words.

He was very annoyed with her humble and timid attitude.

Helma's eyes dimmed and she pursed her lips.

She took a pill from the box and turned to get the glass of water on the bedside table. She swallowed the pill with the remaining water in the glass.

She did not want to take it because she was allergic to contraceptive pills. They caused rashes on her, but Cole did not know this.

He never cared about her. It was useless even if she mentioned it.

Helma put the glass down. Before she could straighten up, the man said coldly, “Helma, let’s get a divorce.”

The harsh words reached Helma’s ears and she looked at him in disbelief. It was a while before she found her voice and asked with difficulty, “Why now?”

Tomorrow would be their second wedding anniversary.

Cole's voice was flat and indifferent, and his words were brutally honest. “Helma, you know I don't love you. I married you because I had to find a marriage partner, and you fit the bill because you were compliant enough. That’s all.

“Besides, she’s back.”

The phrase “She’s back.” echoed endlessly in Helma’s head.

Helma did not know this woman in person.

Could it be the same woman in the photo that she accidentally saw in Cole’s wallet? Could it be the name that he muttered in his sleep?

Helma’s eyes went red as she subconsciously tried to grab his arms.

Cole avoided her touch mercilessly and barked, “You can have as much money as you want.”

Helma's hands froze mid-air, and she muttered, “Is that how you see me?”

Did he think that she married him for money?

Cole frowned.

Was he mistaken?

He remembered her delight when he gave her a supplementary credit card.

“The villas in the suburbs will be under your name. You can pack your things now, and we’ll go to the registration office in the afternoon.” After saying that, his phone rang.

He quickly took out his phone. With a glance at the screen, his expression softened as he answered the call. “I already told her. Don’t fret. I’ll be there right away.”

Ending the call, he turned around and left without another word.

Helma headed downstairs and walked out like a zombie.

The servant called out to her worriedly, “Madam, what's wrong with you? Where are you going?”

Helma’s voice was hoarse. “I’m going out for a walk. Everything’s fine.”

She wandered aimlessly on the street. She had no idea where she was going, but she knew that she would suffocate if she stayed in that house any longer!

At this time, her phone buzzed.

Someone sent her a photo.

Helma bit her lip.

In the photo, a slender woman clung tightly to a man. The couple hugged each other intimately.

Her heart hurt so much it felt like it was about to burst.

Helma bit her lip so hard that it started to bleed. She felt cold all of a sudden and her body trembled.

Her mind went blank, and she stepped forward in a daze.

Suddenly, a pedestrian waiting at the traffic light shouted shrilly, “Watch out!”

Before Helma could react, she was hit by a passing truck and sent flying.
