MiaI have never been so terrified in my life. Hunters attacked my pack in the past, but they never made it anywhere close to the packhouse or my pack mates. It was the warriors who were injured.I glance back, watching Kane and Finn’s wolves fade into the forest as Loki and I sprint faster into the trees-- He is wasting no time getting me away from here. The night air is cold and I close my eyes, trying to not panic. I don’t know how long it’s been when I open them again, but we see an abandoned Cabin ahead and Loki stops, letting me climb down so he can shift, “You wait here, Mia, while I check it out.”I nod while he walks inside, but the forest is quiet, and I don’t think the hunters have followed us here.“It’s all clear,” Loki announces, and I smile faintly as he puts his hand up, telling me to wait. “Do you hear that?” he asks and I pause, listening harder.“Water?” I ask and he smiles.“Yes, I think there is a stream close by,” he says as he walks past me. “This way.”I smile
KaneI knew Lance was a scout the minute I tackled him to the ground. He reeked of Alpha Perez’s pack. It didn’t take me long to realize he had something in his hand. I wrestled it from him quickly, right before Mia came, hiding it in the dirt.I grabbed it when the other too came up from behind us, using them as a distraction.“What do you think it’s too?” Finn mind-links me as he looks over the key and its unusual shape.“I don’t know, but I know it’s important,” I say, putting it quickly back into the bag I’m carrying.“You look so pretty with red hair,” Loki’s says to Mia and Finn, and I look at one another.“You need to make sure he knows, Kane,” he mind-links me.“I will. He’s a fuck boy. Always has been one… but Mia is off limits.”Finn nods before mind-linking me back, “I know, but he’s young. He may not understand. “he says, looking back before changing the subject. “Hopefully, the letters have some clue about they key…. But I bet not, because that would be making it too easy
Mia“WAIT!” I yell as I run after the figure, but he’s too fast. I make it to the staircase out if breath, but Kane shifts and runs past me, following it.I quickly catch my breath and run down the stairs, out the front door, and hear shouts as I do, “Let me go, please!” someone pleads in the distance. I run faster, trying to catch up to Kane—who does he have?“Who are you? why were you in Alpha Menard’s room?!” Kane asks, standing over someone. “What were you looking for?”“I- I-I’m not looking for anything,” The he says as Kane grills him. It’s a boy, probably around 14 or 15, but I don’t know him.“Mia, who is this?” Kane asks“I don’t know,” I say softly as I look over the stranger. “He is not a part of my pack.”I watch as he looks up at me his eyes widening in terror, “You’re a cursed one!” he gasps.I sigh, shaking my head as Kane kicks him in the side, “What were you looking for?” he asks again.“Nothing, I swear,” he yells, holding his side. I watch as Kane kicks him a few
KaneI don’t understand any of this. None of it makes sense. It seems like Audra kept a diary of her time here and seemed to enjoy most of it, but then again, several pages are missing. But I don’t see how any of this is true. If it is, that means she betrayed her entire pack, and I just can’t believe that.Audra was such a kind and caring Luna, and she loved our Alpha. … or so I thought.“So, you heard this song from your nanny? Finn asks again and Mia sighs, her eyes looking at the jeweled hair clip we found.“Yes, Nanny V,” Mia smiles, looking at the bassinet. “She was the only Nanny I liked before she was taken away.”My eyes dart to Finn and Loki and they both nod in agreement, “What was Nanny V like? Do you remember what she looked like? Was there anything special about her?” Loki asks and Mia nods, her foot lightly tapping on the floor.“Yeah,” Mia sounds sad. “She was special because she treated me kindly. She always made sure I felt loved…. I don’t really remember what she lo
MiaSeeing how my mother died makes me grateful that I was rescued by Kane and his men, but it also makes me sad. I wasn’t here when the attack happened. Maybe I could have helped in some way.I know that’s foolish because I am the weakest of them all, but I can’t help but wonder. The flashlight is the only thing guiding us and I watch as it flickers on the tunnel floor. I was never allowed down here. I was told this was where the safehouse was and if we were ever under attack, I was to help lead pack members here, but they were not allowed to let me in and I was not allowed to go in myself.I watch as Kane stops for a moment and then takes a turn into a room. I stand behind Loki and Finn when I see a light switch and turn it on, startling all three of them.“Sorry,” I whisper, but then my mouth gapes as I look around. What is this place? I was told it was where we would go for safety, but there are cells down here: it’s a prison.I walk by each cell, looking inside. All are empty bu
KaneLooking at all the bodies, smelling smoke and death in the air takes me back to the night my pack was attacked. It happened so quickly and there was nothing I could do. I remember seeing the bodies of my family and friends. People that I knew my entire lives, in pieces, scattered on our pack land grounds….. This is too similar and carries a sadness that I am much to familiar with.“Here, it is,” Mia says, her hand touching a huge oak tree. “This is the entrance, but I do not know how to get inside.”I look around and see the shed she just mentioned in the distance. The roof has holes and many of the glass of the windows are shattered. I am hopeful these things happened in the attack, but deep down, I know they didn’t.This is just how Mia has lived. My gaze comes back to Mia, her face is pale and I can see how anxious she is. I know it was a little selfish to ask her to come back her, but we need answers and her pack holds them… or at least some.“I can’t do this!” Mia gasps out
