Chapter 4

Author: Sweetie Moore
Rita gently caressed the back of my hand and softened her tone. The mention of her trying to get pregnant made the situation even more ironic for me. She always used this as a trump card to make me succumb to her wants.

Every time the weekend finally arrived, and I looked forward to taking a good rest, Rita called me to the office to take care of an "emergency."

The so‑called emergency always turned out to be a mess Hudson left behind. Rita claimed it was for the future of our children. She said Hudson was young, capable, and full of ambition, and I should learn from him by taking the burden of the difficult parts of his job.

Even when I worked to the point of exhaustion, she only said that everything was worth it because I was being a good example for our future child. I was like a fireman on standby, in charge of putting out the fire for Hudson whenever she needed it.

Back then, I helped her clean up Hudson's mess willingly as I imagined a wonderful future with her. I believed we would have a child and form a proper family. Since being reborn from my past life, I started to understand something.

Rita always saw me as a tool she could use whenever she wanted and abandon at any time. Children were only a way of keeping me in line, and she never planned to give me any.

At this thought, I pulled my hand away from hers and replied coldly, "It is fine. I do not need this opportunity."

Rita was taken aback, and a flash of anger appeared in her eye. She took a document from her bag and gave it to me. I thought she was finally giving me the divorce papers and wanted me to leave this marriage with nothing to my name.

I was mentally prepared for this, and I did not expect Rita to give me an equity transfer agreement. "I have discussed it with the board of directors. If you are willing to return, we will transfer all of the company's shares to you. Would you feel better about coming back to the company now?"

Rita looked at me deeply as she held my hand, her voice sweet as honey.

I went into a momentary daze when I saw her looking at me like that. It suddenly felt like all the pain, betrayal, and despair I experienced in my past life was nothing but a bad dream. When I caught the scent of a cigarette on her, it cleared my head right away.

Rita never smoked, and she hated the smell of cigarettes. I knew that scent well. It was the brand of cigarettes Hudson always smoked. The scent on her was still strong, which meant she must have plotted this with Hudson for a long time before she talked to me.

What a great actress Rita was.

This was exactly how she tricked me into signing the equity transfer agreement in my last life. She cajoled me into it by manipulating my feelings.

Poor me had been stupid enough to believe she finally opened her heart to me. I was so touched that I held her in my arms then and sobbed hysterically, swearing that I would expand the company and give her a brighter future.

It felt like such a joke now that I thought about it.

I did not expose her when she gave me the equity transfer agreement. I took it from her with a knowing smile.

"All right. I will sign it," I said so calmly that it was impossible to guess my real emotions. I picked up the pen and signed my name on the paper.

After I signed it, Rita hugged me right away. Her right hand clenched the agreement as if she feared it would vanish from her grip.

"You're the best, Hubby! Our future son will definitely grow up to be just like you!"

It felt great to see the looks on Hudson and Rita's faces. When the debtors saw the empty pen drive, they surrounded Rita and Hudson. Hudson immediately showed his true colors when he saw the situation turn against them. He slapped Rita hard. "This is all your fault. All I wanted was to make some money, and you ruined everything."Rita held her hand to her burning cheek and looked at Hudson in disbelief. "Did we not promise each other, Hudson? That we would…"Before Rita finished, Hudson interrupted her. "Who made promises to you? The company belongs to you, and you are the one who signed the agreement. What does any of this have to do with me?"It was amazing to see how quickly Hudson changed his stance. Rita was stunned. It never occurred to her that Hudson would betray her.I watched everything unfold without feeling any pity for her. Rita deserved everything that happened to her. She once turned her back on me and abandoned me because of this man. Now the wheels had turned aga

Rita fell limply into a chair with a blank look in her eye. She looked like a puppet without a soul. She used to be a pure, adorable, and understanding woman, and I always believed she was the love of my life. I never expected all of it to be a facade. It was at that moment that Rita realized what she had lost.Rita knelt at my feet with tears streaming down her face. "I made a mistake, Casey. I was wrong. I was blinded by money and power, which was why I did all those things. Please forgive me, Casey. I promise I will not do anything like this again. I will make it up to you. Please give me another chance."Her face was covered with tears, and she looked pitiful. I would have given in to her if this were before. Now, all I felt was disgust. "Make it up to me? How do you plan on doing that? Who do you think you are to believe you can make anything up to me?"Be prepared to face justice from the law."I looked down at her with superiority as I spoke in an icy tone."Casey, I am b

However, it was not the time to focus on this. I took a deep breath to calm myself. After that, I looked at Rita. "What exactly do you want, Rita?"When Rita saw me finally caving in, the light of victory seemed to shine on her. She leaned into my ear and whispered with glee, "Simple. Let us all take a step back. Hudson and I no longer have the plane tickets. Help us purchase 2 new tickets to leave the country and give us 20 million each."In return, we will destroy all evidence against you, and I will make Hudson the scapegoat. After that, we will escape overseas. This is a win‑win for everyone, am I right?"I could not help sneering in my heart. Win‑win? How could she say something like that?Rita's suggestion meant that I would lose 40 million, and if I knew Rita well enough, she would never help me even if I gave her the money. She would still make me the scapegoat and report me for transferring capital. However…I was more crafty than she thought. I had come prepared after b

"You have been putting up an act this whole time, have you not? Do you take us for fools?"Hudson turned pale, and he trembled so much that he could not say a word. When a debtor put a blade to Hudson's neck, Rita quickly came forward to explain, "Do not be rash. We are really not lying to you. It is just… It is just that our money was stolen too."The debtors sneered."Your money was stolen? Who would steal your money? I bet you used up all the money, which is why you cannot pay us anything. Stop making up stories to delay paying up."Rita was almost crying, and she pointed at me in anger. "My money was really stolen, and he is the one behind it. He must have peeked at my password while I was not looking and transferred all my money somewhere else."Why are you treating me this way, Casey? I have always been good to you. Why must you betray me like this?"I sneered quietly as I watched Rita's teary performance. She was asking for it since she refused to give up. She was still tr
