Family Bonding

“Oh, I have to go our parents are waiting for us,” Jan Lee looks at his watch and glance at the girl.

“Is there a family meeting,” the girl inquired.

“Yes, it’s their wedding anniversary,” he answered, “We have a surprise for them and we’ll be having lunch together,” he notices the girl bowed her head looking at the ground thinking something after hearing his words.

Jan Lee looks at his phone and reads the message from his twin brother.

“Is it him?” the girl asked him, “I have to go,” then she turns her back away from Jan Lee.

“Wait!” he tried to let her stay for a while to offer an invitation but the girl just walks away, “No! I did not have the chance to ask her name, Jim Han what have you done? Only if you could know this...I know you don’t care sometimes, but I know you brother,” Jan Lee said to himself.

He scratches his head while the other hand is holding the phone. He shakes his head while looking at the girl walking away from him. He tried to reach his arm toward her giving her the signal to stay but she just left him. Then the cellphone rang and he found out his twin brother called him.

“Where are you, bro?” said his twin worrying about him, “We have been here an hour waiting for you, come on! Hurry up. We are still looking for that cake. I thought Shin Ki know this one but she didn’t know either.”

“I’m coming bro,” he immediately put his phone in his pocket and starts his motorbike.

While driving, Jan Lee thinks about the girl. He was not mindful anymore of how he was slapped at the coffee shop rather he feels concerned about her. It instilled in his mind the facial expression of the girl on how she was disappointed with his twin brother. He feels how the girl loved his brother. He knew the ticket was expensive and how the girl dressed attractively showing how much she valued that occasion. He thought that she prepares everything and planned ahead of time but his twin brother missed that special moment. He noticed the girl was sad after hearing they are having a family bonding.

“Maybe she missed her family,” thought himself, “you need to explain this to me, Jim Han,” he added then hold on to his break as the red light appears.

“Hey babe, can you wait for just a couple of minutes?” then the girl answered the phone, “Yeah, I’m stuck, it's traffic here, sorry babe, I’ll be there, bye, I love you,” said the guy while his feet steady controlling his bike.

Jan Lee noticed that guy from his side then look back at the signal waiting for the green light to flash. Then he thought, “Good for this guy, he is doing his best to come for that girl,” he then found out the flowers in front of him and a gift bag hanging on his hand grip. As the go signal flashed, Jan Lee keeps an eye on the guy turning on the other side heading toward the park.

At the shop, Jan Lee parks his bike in front of it.

“Oh! There he is,” said Jim Han while Jan Lee dismounts from his bike, “Why you are late bro?” Jim meets him and teased him.

“Yeah,” Jan Lee attempts to talk about the girl he meets at the coffee shop but decided to say it later, “It’s better late than never,” he responded with contempt.

Jim Han noticed the facial expression that he wanted to tell something but shift his attention when their sister Shin Ki pick some cake and asked them.

“Is this mama’s favorite flavor?” Shin Ki points her finger while raising her eyebrow looking at her brothers.

“I think that’s it,” Jim Han responded, “She always buys that one whenever we have a birthday celebration,” he added while putting his finger on his chin.

“No, that is not,” Jan Lee interrupted them and point his finger at the other flavor.

“Which one do you think?” asked Shin Ki.

“That one,” Jan Lee pointed to the strawberry flavor while nodding his head.

“Are you sure?” Jim Han and Shin Ki answered in chorus and laugh.

“Yes,” last year when they celebrated their wedding anniversary papa came from this shop. I saw him give this kind of cake as a gift to mama.

“Alright, that’s it, I think we have the expert here, “Jim Han laughs and tried to teased Jan Lee, “Shin Ki did you buy the other stuff?” he added.

“Yes, but the others we cannot buy it here, we need to go to the other store,” Shin Ki answered.

“Alright, I will be the one to pay that one, and Jan can you make Shin Ki ride with you?” Jim requested.

“I don’t have a helmet for her,” Jan Lee responded and raised his shoulder.

Jim Han points his finger on a bag with a helmet inside of it placed on top of the table, “It’s in there.”

“Ah! I see you already planned this to make Shin Ki ride with me and then where will you go after this?” Jan Lee asked as he crossed his arms between his chest.

“I have a surprise for mama,” Jim smiled.

“Really?” the two answered together for they were surprised that Jim would do such a thing.

“Okay, Shin, how many items we need to buy?” Jan Lee asked her while looking at his wristwatch.

“Only a few items left,” Shin answered as she looks at a piece of paper.

“We need to hurry it’s almost eleven,” Jan Lee approaches the helmet at the corner while Shin picks up the other pieces of stuff they already bought, “Don’t be late bro!” Jan Lee asked Jim after picking up the helmet, “We will wait for you there, we will not start until you came,” said Jan Lee.

“Yes, of course, I’m the one holding the spotlight,” Jim kidding him.
