He watched a man waltz confidently toward him, acting as if he were the man of the hour. But that was nothing new.

This man had always loved hugging the spotlight. He had always competed against him, wanting to prove to everyone that he could outsmart him.

"She is indeed a beautiful bride." His unexpected guest complimented the woman who stood beside him as they mingled with their well-wishers.

The man sounded sincere as he greeted his wife, but he knew better than to slip into his trap. His wife might fall for his charm, but not him.

"Welcome to the family." He kissed his wife's knuckles, acting like a real gentleman. But he knew better, knowing it was just all an act. "By the way, I'm Eric Rockford."

"Thanks, Eric. It's nice to meet you." His wife responded courteously before excusing herself to join her few guests.

Truthfully, he still had unfinished business to settle with his new wife, but he guessed he would have to wait until they were alone again.

For now, he had other,

  • She's Trouble: His Bride with a Dollar Sign   73 - What if?

From the moment Charlie stepped into the ballroom, her heart was anchored by a desire to fit in. However, the night had swept past in a dizzying haze, a wild mix of excitement, overwhelming emotions, and a tinge of boredom, all tangled together in a way that barely made sense.Perhaps it was the endless stream of names slipping in one ear and escaping out the other. Maybe it was the ceaseless flow of champagne that danced down her throat, pooling in her stomach and leaving her head spinning in a daze.It could also be the electrifying enthusiasm that enveloped the room when her husband was announced as the new CEO. Maybe it was her introduction as the Saunders heir’s wife that had left her breathless, heart pounding as she stood beside him in an earth-shattering experience.Whatever the cause, Charlie felt her world whirling out of control. Her grip loosened as chaos crept in. Maybe this was how Cinderella felt as she stepped into a grand ballroom glittering with royalties and aristoc

  • She's Trouble: His Bride with a Dollar Sign   72 - Storm brewing on the horizon

“If it isn’t my favorite cousin.” Eric, the only son of Alicia Rockford, sneered as he strolled over, wearing his usual crooked smile. "So, I guess congratulations are in order," he said, his eyes glinting with barely disguised resentment.Eric’s faked accolade only highlighted the underlying jealousy and bitterness Isaac had grown used to, as the unspoken competition and animosity between them simmered just beneath the surface.Knowing Eric, his cousin would rather see him burn to ashes than witness him succeed in his father’s stead. If given a chance, Eric would seize any opportunity to snatch the Saunders’ company away from him.“Eric,” Isaac forced a polite smile that mirrored the insincerity radiating from his cousin’s expression. Deep inside, he braced himself for another round of their familiar, tense exchanges that typically would not end well.Instantly, curious eyes flickered in their direction, hushed whispers rippled through the air, and a soft clinking of glasses suddenly

“It is official,” Anna announced amongst their group. “You are now Mrs. Charlene Saunders, wife of the formerly-notorious bachelor, Mr. Isaac Saunders.”Anna held out her phone so Charlie and the rest of the group could see the pictures of Charlie and Isaac that were circulating on every news website.“Shut up, Anna!” She tried to stop her friend from teasing her and showing more photos of her and her husband, depicted as the newly happily married couple. She remembered reporters taking photos as they entered the ballroom. No wonder they were already appearing on the latest news cycle. However, if it had been up to her, she would have preferred to fly under the radar and finish this contract without the whole world learning about her marriage to the famous Saunders’ heir. She vividly recalled the time when people learned about her breakup with Collin, the heir to the Harper Group. It triggered a barrage of negative comments that made her want to crawl under a rock and hide for weeks.

  • She's Trouble: His Bride with a Dollar Sign   70 - Priceless

How did she end up in this situation again? She promised she would never put herself in this compromising and possibly heartbreaking position after her failed relationship. But damn! Here she was again. Falling! “Damn it, Charlie! You’re such a fool!” She mumbled in her low voice that she barely even heard it herself. Whatever made her think that she would ever have control of her life? Joke on her! How could she have let this happen? “Hey, Charlie, are you ready?” Finally, her husband appeared by the door, carrying three red roses in his left hand. But she could not see his other hand as he kept it behind his back. Three roses! Did it mean anything? Or was it just a kind gesture? An action that was expected from this so-called relationship. Whatever this was. “Yeah!” She popped her lips and checked her appearance in the mirror one last time. “Let me grab my things.” She hurriedly said, shoving her thoughts for later. She picked up her bag from the vanity table and turned

Black hair, neatly combed in a sleek pattern, and a beard trimmed to a perfect five o'clock shadow. Not his usual style, but tonight was special. The tailor-made black ensemble highlighted his toned body and even complemented his enigmatic eyes, which were as dark as the night sky. He looked like a gift, wrapped in a black tuxedo coat and tied with a neat little black bow. Exactly the look he was going for tonight, a charming debonaire with a mysterious flair. Tonight, of all nights, he had to look his absolute best. After all, the celebration, ongoing downstairs, was to honor him. Many had come to see him, as evidenced by the long line of cars dropping off successful business tycoons, influential politicians, famous artists, and the society’s elites at the front doorstep of his family home, just below the balcony of his bedroom. “You got this!” Isaac thought so to himself, watching his reflection in the mirror. So far, everything appeared immaculate. Not a hair on his head was ou

  • She's Trouble: His Bride with a Dollar Sign   68 - When it was time to leave?

“For heaven’s sake, Charlie.” She closed her eyes, covering her face with the pillow beside her, before shouting at the top of her lungs. Her head spun just thinking about yesterday’s event, especially last night. It felt like she had just had a roller coaster ride with the shitty things that happened. But that was just it. It had not been all that bad, as she thought of the highlights of the night. It might seem like a dream, but she knew quite well that it was not. Every kiss, caress, intense moment that sent her soaring to the heavens and burning in hell was all too real. “Damn, I am totally fuck.” Or rather, she was totally fucked. But that was not the real issue, as she thought of what was really bothering her. For her contract husband, last night was just sex. A way to blow off steam and those pent-up urges since they vowed to stay loyal to each other while married. “Of course, that made sense.” She mumbled. She could not be seen dating other men, much worse, sleeping with
