Kring! Kring! Kring!“Ahhh!” She growled out of frustration. The jarring clang of the alarm pierced her ears, wrenching her from deep slumber. The sensation of cool sheets that clung to her skin. A stark contrast to the warm, bright light spilling into her room through the enormous windows. It must already be late morning. Still, she ignored it and wished to return to her enchanting dream. The relentless ringing hammered at her eardrums. Each shrill note threatened to split her head, to make her bleed. Defeated, she surrendered any hope of sleep. Peace would only return if she silenced that merciless clamor.Never bothering to open her eyes, her right hand crawled on top of the pillow. It reached the side table where she remembered leaving her phone. Once in her hand, she answered it without looking. She slumped her head back into the pillow, leaving the phone on speaker.“Charlie, are you there? I need to talk to you.” Her friend’s excited voice echoed in the room, but she could not

No matter how extravagant the party was, it always ended the same way as any other party. Guests left with their companions, with someone new, or alone, each carrying a different sense of satisfaction, disappointment, or indifference. Some confidently walked straight out the door, others barely kept their feet steady, stumbling here and there, their steps betraying their drunkenness. On the other hand, the host had to deal with the aftermath. It was as if a storm had just rampaged through what was once a perfectly decorated ballroom. Ultimately, the celebration had either achieved its purpose or failed miserably. But first, where was her husband?“Have you seen Isaac?” Charlie approached her husband’s best friend, who was still busily dealing with a few remaining guests. Her gaze scanned the room, searching through the thinning crowd, but it was to no avail. Instead, her sight landed on a pair of astute eyes that had seen their fair share of victories and disappointments.“Yeah, he wa

A gorgeous lady in a shimmering sunset mustard gown graced the stage with her radiating presence, serenading the guests with her ethereal melodic voice. Behind her, the band played their instruments, hitting the notes with clean precision while maintaining a rhythm in a steady beat.On the other side of the floor, the bar had flooded the room with free drinks while the caterers provided delicious hors d'oeuvres, bite-sized treats that were both mouthwatering and satisfying, to satiate everyone’s appetite. Most of all, the presence of the important guests made this prestigious event an overwhelming success.“I hope I can count on your support.” Isaac firmly shook the hand of one of his father’s investors, expecting the older man would continue to trust him with his money. After all, they were not talking about pocket change. These were million-dollar investments entrusted to his hands. So far, Isaac had already secured the Board and the majority shareholders’ trust. Still, he had to sh

Yeah, Isaac is amazing.” Charlie agreed affirmatively, smiling as the image of her husband brushed across her mind. “Are you doing business with him, too?”Her gaze swept through the bustling crowd, searching for her husband. She remembered seeing him earlier with a group of men.Where had he disappeared to? In a gathering this grand, her husband could be anywhere, conversing with anyone.Besides, she knew better not to expect her husband to be tied by her side all evening. Isaac had guests and investors to entertain, establishing his reputation as the new CEO, and securing new investments for his business ventures was his top priority.“No! Not yet. I’ve just heard good things about him and the
