Alessa remained motionless in the SUV as Isabella stepped out. Three of her men came out of the black sedan that had escorted the SUV and approached her. She said something to them, most probably an instruction, and two of the men left and went into the club, while the last lingered.

Isabella turned and saw that Alessa was still seated in the vehicle. “Are you going to sit there and miss all the action?” She asked, walking closer to the SUV. She opened the car door to ensure Alessaa could hear her clearly. “I asked if you do not want to come along.”

Alessa slowly turned to face Isabella, her face had unhappiness written all over it. Without saying a word, she unbuckled her seatbelt and motioned to Isabella to move away from the door so she could come down from the car.

“Do I necessarily have to be here?” Alessa asked Isabella with a face that could show how uncomfortable she was. “You can do your business dealing without involving me,” her voice dripped with disdain. “I am very much

The family table had always been a theater of its own. Crystal glasses glimmered under the chandelier, silver cutlery reflected warm light and conversations rose and fell like waves against the shore. That night was no different. Marco, watchful with his expression serious even as Rafael tried to lighten the air with a joke, sat at the head of the table with Rafael nearby. Sophia, caught between her father’s sternness and her cousin Marco's intensity, leaned closer to Luca, her head brushing against him as they shared a quiet smile. The food was exquisite, as always. The cooks had outdone themselves–roasted meats seasoned to perfection, golden pasta that smelled of fresh herbs and sauces rich with flavor. Yet as the meal unfolded, a strange heaviness began to creep over Sophia. At first it was subtle: a twist in her stomach and a faint ache in her head. She shifted in her chair, pressing a hand against her middle, hoping it would pass.Luca noticed first. “Are you alright?” He whisp

The silence was unbearable. It pressed against Sophia’s ears until she could hear nothing but the frantic beat of her heart. Shadows stretched across the walls, jagged and suffocating and the cell smelled of dampness and despair. She had tried to remain calm, had tried to think clearly, but the weight of it all came crashing down at once. Her breath hitched, shallow and uneven. The fear inside her crawled its way up until it spilled over in a rush of wild, desperate energy. With a broken cry, Sophia lunged at the walls. Her fists pound against the stone. Once. Twice. Again. And again, until her knuckles stung and her arms trembled from the force. The noise filled the room, raw and frantic, echoing off the cold stone. She didn’t care who heard her. Didn’t care if it made her look weak. She needed someone. Anyone. To know she was here.“Let me out!” Her voice cracked, thick with terror. “Please, let me out!” The words dissolved into sobs. She pressed her forehead against the wall, tears

The whisper came through the crack in the wall just as Alessa was sitting cross legged on the floor, her mind struggled for stillness. She had forced herself into meditation, the one practice that still kept her steady in this house full of wolves. The air smelled faintly of the incense she had burned earlier though even that had trouble drowning out the stench of cold stone and secrets. She had almost convinced herself that she was alone when the voice came–low and hurried, seeping through the thin crevice like smoke.“They’ve put her in the warehouse,” the messenger murmured. “The blonde one. Young. She’s still alive, but…” The words trailed off, as though the weight of them was too much to carry. Alessa’s eyes snapped open. Her breath caught and her heartbeat stumbled before racing forward. Blonde. Young. Alive. She didn’t need the name. In the pit of her stomach she knew who that was.Sophia.A shiver ran through her despite the room being far from cold. She pressed her palm again

The darkness pressed in on Sophia like a second skin, heavy and suffocating. For a long while, Sophia could not tell if she was truly awake or trapped in some cruel nightmare. Her head throbbed with a dull ache, her lips cracked with dryness and the chill of the stone floor beneath her sent tremors racing through her body.Slowly, like a flame flickering back to life after being smothered, her awareness returned. She was in a room–or more precisely, a cell. The air smelled of damp earth, sweat and rusted metal. Her breathing quickened. The fragments of memory before this moment came rushing in and with them came panic. Her throat burned as she tried to shout. “Help! Somebody, help me! Please, anyone!” Her voice cracked from dehydration, echoing pitifully against the walls but it was useless. Her mind drifted, replaying flashes of her life like lanterns flickering in the dark. Her mother’s warm, gentle smile. Her childhood laughter, brief and fleeting. The emptiness in her heart that

The curtains were drawn tight but the moonlight still managed to slip through the edges, slicing thin silver lines across the room where Matteo paced like a caged animal with his heavy footsteps thudding against the carpet. His face was red with rage as his hands clenched into fists that opened and closed as though he was itching to strike someone.“Stupid girl,” he hissed under his breath, spitting the words as if they burned his tongue. “Foolish, ungrateful child.” He stopped by the dresser, slamming his palms against its polished surface hard enough to rattle the glass decanter that sat there innocently. The liquor inside shivered, catching the faint light.Matteo leaned forward, his reflection in the mirror a twisted version of himself –eyes wild and mouth curled in a snarl. “All these years,” he muttered in a low voice, trembling with fury.“All these years. Planning. Waiting. And now she ruins it in a heartbeat.” The thought of his daughter, Sophia, carrying Luca’s child was a k

The office was dimly lit with the heavy curtains drawn against the evening sun. Marco sat behind his massive walnut desk, fingers drumming against the polished wood and his face tight with impatience. Luca had been gone for days, searching and pressing every lead and still, nothing.A sharp knock sounded on his door followed by Luca. Just the man he was thinking of. “Capo,” Luca began carefully, “we’ve covered every safe house in the city as well as the dangerous ones. Questioned our contacts and bribed the ones who know the streets more than we do. Still there’s no sign of Sophia.”Marco’s jaw tensed as he leaned back in his chair, the leather groaning under his weight.“So she just vanished into thin air, is that what you’re trying to tell me?”Luca swallowed hard before uttering the next sentence. “We’ll keep pressing. Sooner or later someone will talk.”“Sooner.” Marco snapped. “Later is too late.” “You can leave now. And make sure the next time you return, you do so with somethi
