Raven's POV

The council meeting was set for noon. I had already planned what I was going to say, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that today was going to go down the hill, faster than we can control.

I walked into the grand hall, the elders stood up in respect, some adjusting their robes in the process, some of them gave me nods of approval, others just stared at me, their expressions unreadable.

They already knew what this meeting was all about. I will be shocked, if they didn't.

I sat down at the head of the table, my palms sweating slightly. I knew this wasn’t going to be easy.

“Let’s begin,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

Everyone turned their eyes to me, drowning me with their cold and calculating gaze.

My mother walked in just in time, flanked by two of her personal guards. She stepped into the hall with pride and elegance. She wore a green dress that brought all her curves out— decent though but just enough to make the men's jaw dropped.

“Sorry I'm late,” she smile

  • She's the Alpha    What Kai fears.

RAVEN'S POVI stood frozen, watching Kai run into the dark trees like something was chasing him. I had seen him angry, smug, playful—but this? This was different. He looked terrified. Like really scared — too scared. And the worst part? I could smell him.For the first time ever, I could actually scent Kai. I have almost concluded that Kai has no scent. Never have I imagined that one day I would be able to take his scent. But it was just like I had expected. It was warm and sharp, like cedar smoke and something wild. It wrapped around me like a trap, pulling my soul into the great beyond. It was beautiful. And dangerous.I sat down on the grass near the river, still staring at the spot where he disappeared. My hands shook and my chest felt tight. I didn’t know if I should be happy or scared.I was happy because I could finally scent my mate. Something I had longed for. But I was also scared because his reaction was not what I expected. He wasn’t confused or quiet. He was horrified.

  • She's the Alpha    The scent of secrets.

Kai's POV. I let out a deep breath, running a hand through my wet hair. A cold bath in the cold weather was my solace. Freezing and stupid but it does the work— clear my head like magic. The nightshade rivers weren't as cold as that of my pack. But it did just the trick. I sank under again, let the water drown out the noise in my mind. My brother is definitely up to something— he always is but him coming to see me in person was a bold move — too bold. He sounded so confident like he knew the end of the war —- and what if he did? No, we can't move without knowing what we are up against. The problem wasn't with me, nah, it was with Raven. She still had loose ends and that traitor was still wandering around. Whoever that person is must be powerful enough to give my brother that kind of confidence. My thoughts were interrupted by approaching footsteps. I broke the surface, water dripping down my face. I didn’t even need to look. I already knew it was her.“Didn’t expect to see you

  • She's the Alpha    When loyalty hurts.

RAVEN’S POVI found my mother later in the garden. She was sitting in her usual chair, her fingers drumming on the armrest like she was trying to summon patience—but clearly failing. She didn’t look at me when I walked in, but I could feel the tension in the air the moment she realized I was there.“You wanted to speak to me?” she asked, gesturing me to sit down at the chair across from her. I declined the offer with a smile. “I will rather stand.” And that was because standing will make it easier for me to run when her angry motherhood is activated. Wosh, you do not want to see that side of her. “We need to talk.”She turned to face me now, her eyes narrowing. “About?”I took a breath. “I need you to step down from the council.”She blinked. Once. Then she paused, then blinked again. “Excuse me?”“You heard me, Mom.”She slowly stood up, her face hardening. “Raven, don’t play games with me. What the hell are you talking about?”“I’m serious. Things are getting worse, and Draven is

  • She's the Alpha    A thorn for a thorn.

RAVEN’S POV. The next morning, my mind was still heavy. I couldn’t stop thinking about what I saw the night before—Damien and Draven meeting with in secret.Damien hated Draven. He’d made that clear more times than I could count. So what the hell were they talking about?I kept going over it again and again. Maybe I’d imagined it. Maybe it wasn’t what it looked like. But no matter how many times I replayed it in my head, it didn’t change what I saw. Damien bowed to Draven. That part kept looping in my mind like a curse.I didn’t sleep much. When I did close my eyes, all I saw were unanswered questions. I mean, I could at least make a little sense about the meeting in secret. Damien might have talked to Draven about helping with the war — even though that's a high level betrayal that I can't forget but still why do it in the shadows and the bow? That was some bigger shit. By morning, I gave up trying to rest and went to the garden for some air. It was quiet, the only sound coming fro

  • She's the Alpha    Brother's shadow.

KAI’S POV. “Still think your brother is the little boy you left at home?” Zeke asked, raising an eyebrow at me.I slowly went down with a nod, holding my position for a while, before going back up. Push ups was is not my daily activity but it helped clear my mind. And right now, my mind was in a total mess. Thinking about the smallest thing was like looking for a needle in a haystack. He sighed. “This is so frustrating. How could Allen have planned this? I mean he has the Lycan Lord's blood flowing through his veins but c'mon, everyone knows that Allen is just vicious but not this smart.”I remained quiet, still going up and down. Sweat dripping off my face, my eyes fixed on the sand like it was some enemy— my nightmares. I have been having this strange dreams recently where everyone I care about died, and by everyone I meant Raven and in her arms was a child and some creepy woman who keeps reminding me that I'm a failure masked in beauty and fragrance.“Can you believe it?” Zeke'
