KADE’S POV

I have no idea how long I spent in the twins’ room. All I knew was that I wasn’t ready to leave any time soon.

I liked lying on the carpet, listening to Luca talk while Matteo watched TV. I liked it when, afterward, we continued with the Lego set they’d been building when I first eavesdropped.

I liked just…being with my children.

It seemed mundane, silly, even, to spend an entire afternoon with two little kids, especially with all the power and authority I wielded, but I didn’t think I’d ever felt so fulfilled.

I wanted this; I wanted it badly. The only thing that could have made the afternoon any better was if Andrea was with us. We’d be like a normal, happy family, indulging in seemingly silly things like enjoying each other’s company and watching ‘Mr. Maker’ on repeat.

Like I’d wished her into existence, the door to the twins’ room opened, revealing Andrea.

“Mommy!” the twins chorused when she walked in.

She was holding a tray with three covered plates and smiled softly
