Twenty Two

In 1922,Robert Townsend went to a party with some of his friends. At that party he met the prettiest girl that he had ever seen. Millie had long brown hair and eyes like emeralds. He asked her to dance and she seemed pleased to accept. Later, he walked her home. It was raining, and she borrowed his coat. They kissed. The next day, he returned to the house for his jacket. A grey-haired woman answered. He asked after Millie, and the lady wept.

'I'm sorry,'she said,'my daughter died a year ago today.'

Robert gasped.'But I just saw her yesterday!'

The lady said,'Go to the cemetery a mile down the road, and you'll find her there.'

Robert found the cemetery. He searched for the girl's grave, and found one with her name on it. Lying there was his jacket. When he picked it up,a note fell to the ground. It read: I'M SORRY, MY LOVE.'
