LOGINNikolai Volkov is the Beast of the Ice—a scarred, aggressive hockey captain and the future leader of the Northwood Demon Syndicate. He lives for two things: the violence of the game and the burden of his father’s dark legacy. To save his family's future, he’s agreed to marry Chloe Moretti, the perfect, golden-haired woman the world expects him to want. But Nikolai has a secret. One night of masked passion with a stranger has left his inner demon burning for a woman he doesn’t know. Enter Bella Moretti. She’s cold, brilliant, and a powerful vampire hired to manage Nikolai’s chaotic career. She’s also Chloe’s sister. The moment they lock eyes in the boardroom, the truth hits like a body check: the stranger from the club is his future sister-in-law. Bella is no damsel. She’s a vampire who runs a business empire and isn't afraid of Nikolai’s horns. They are fated mates—a dynamic so rare for demons it is thought to be a myth—bound by a blood-link that could destroy two powerful families and a multi-million dollar hockey franchise. Now, they’re forced to travel together, work together, and pretend they don’t want to tear each other’s clothes off—all while the wedding countdown begins.

The draft of the merger contract lay open on the glass desk between us. I stared at the dark ink, my chest tight. Every word on that paper was a life sentence, and my father was sitting across from me, smiling like he had just won a prize.
"Sign the final approval for the legal team, Bella," my father said, his voice smooth and cold. "We need this wrapped up before the dinner tonight."
I didn't pick up the pen. "Father, this isn't a business deal. You are giving Chloe to the Volkov Syndicate. You know what people say about Nikolai Volkov. They call him the Beast of the Ice for a reason. His demon is unstable. He's dangerous."
"He is the heir to the largest territory in the north," my father corrected, leaning back in his tall chair. "And Chloe is thrilled. She wants the title. She wants the parties. She wants to be the wife of the syndicate leader."
"Chloe is twenty-one!" I stood up, resting my hands on the desk. "She thinks this is a fairytale. She doesn't understand that once she signs that contract, she belongs to a family of dark demons who will use her to clean up their reputation. Look at these clauses, Dad. You're giving them full control over our estate's assets in exchange for their protection. You're selling her out because your own business is failing."
My father's eyes darkened, the red tint of his vampire nature flashing behind his dark pupils. The air in the room grew cold, but I didn't back down. I had stopped being afraid of him years ago.
"Watch your tone, Bella," he warned softly. "You forget your place in this family. You are the elder daughter, yes, but you are untamed. No high-born immortal wants a woman who acts like a lawyer and looks at men like she wants to snap their necks. Chloe has a role to play, and so do you. Your job is to make sure the paperwork is airtight so our family stays rich. Now sign it."
"I won't be a part of this," I said, my voice shaking with a mix of rage and disgust.
"You already are," he said coldly. "If you refuse to handle the legal side, I will strip your title at the company tomorrow. You will have nothing. No office, no power, no money. Do you think you can survive out there on your own without the Moretti name?"
I stared at him, my inner vampire clawing at my chest, desperate to rip the quiet expression right off his face. But he was right about one thing. If I walked away now, I couldn't protect Chloe from the background. I would lose all access to the family funds and the legal power I used to keep us safe.
Without another word, I grabbed my pen, signed the bottom of the page with a sharp stroke, and shoved the paper back across the glass.
"Good," my father said, not even looking up as he gathered the pages. "Go home and change. We leave for the Volkov estate at seven."
I turned and walked out of the office before I did something I couldn't take back.
I didn't go home. I couldn't.
If I went back to the house, I would have to listen to Chloe talk about her wedding dress again. I would have to watch her smile while she walked straight into a trap, totally unaware that our father was using her as a pawn. The guilt was a physical weight in my throat, choking me.
I got into my car and drove straight toward the docks.
The Den was hidden beneath an old warehouse near the water. It was a place where immortals went when they wanted to drop their fancy titles and hide in the dark. No soft music, no high-class wine, just loud bass that made the floor shake and dark corners where nobody asked for your name.
I pulled a silver mask out of my glove box, tied it around my eyes, and walked down the wet steps into the club.
The air inside smelled like rain and old liquor. I moved through the crowd of shifters and vampires, ignoring the eyes that followed me, and sat down at the far end of the bar.
"Double whiskey," I told the bartender.
He slid the glass toward me, and I drank it in one shot. The liquid burned down my throat, but it didn't stop the noise in my head. My inner vampire was pacing, dark and restless, furious at my father, furious at my own helplessness. I just wanted one hour where I wasn't Bella Moretti, the cold businesswoman who let her sister get traded away.
"Refill," I said, tapping the glass against the counter.
Before the bartender could reach for the bottle, the heavy front doors of the club swung open.
The mood in the room dropped instantly. The music kept playing, but the voices around the bar faded. Everyone turned to look, and even without trying, my eyes moved toward the entrance.
A man walked in, wearing a dark mask that covered the top half of his face. He was massive, his broad shoulders blocking out the light from the hallway behind him. He wasn't wearing a fancy suit like the men in my father's circle; he wore a plain black shirt that stretched tight over his chest and arms.
He was radiating pure, aggressive heat. I could feel it from ten feet away—a dark, demon energy that felt like a storm brewing right inside the room. His knuckles were bruised, and his blue eyes were wild, sweeping over the crowd like he was looking for a fight.
He sat down three stools away from me. He didn't order a drink. He just leaned his elbows on the counter, buried his face in his hands, and let out a harsh breath that sounded like a growl.
I knew I should have stayed quiet. I knew I should have turned around and focused on my own glass. But my inner vampire leaned toward him, drawn to that raw, dangerous aura. He looked just as trapped as I felt.
"You look like you want to kill someone," I said, my voice carrying over the low rumble of the bass.
He didn't lift his head immediately. Slowly, his hands dropped, and those glowing blue eyes turned toward me. He looked at my silver mask, then down at my hands on the bar.
"Keep talking, sweetheart, and you might be first in line," his voice was a deep, gravelly rasp that made the small hairs on my arms stand up.
I chuckled, leaning back against my stool. "Try it. I've had the worst day of my life, so a fight actually sounds pretty good right now."
He turned his full body toward me then. The heat coming off his skin was intense, almost overwhelming, but I didn't pull back.
"You think you're tough, little vampire?" he asked, his blue eyes narrowing behind his mask. "You don't know what kind of mess you're poking at."
"I know a man who just lost his temper," I replied coldly, taking a slow sip of my second drink. "And I know you're sitting here alone because nobody else in this room has the guts to come near you."
A dark smile touched his lips, rough and sharp. "Maybe they just have better instincts than you."
"Or maybe they're smart enough to know when someone is just throwing a tantrum," I shot back.
He let out a short, dry laugh. The tension in his shoulders shifted, the dark energy around him flaring up instead of backing down. He stood up from his stool, taking a slow step toward me. He towered over me, his shadow falling completely over my seat.
"You have a real big mouth behind that silver mask," he murmured, his voice dropping an octave as he stepped closer.
"And you have a lot of dark energy for someone just sitting at a bar," I said, looking right up into his eyes without flinching. "What's the matter? Did somebody not let you win today?"
That hit something. His blue eyes flashed dark, almost black for a split second, and he reached out, grabbing my wrist.
His hand was hot—so hot it felt like bare flame against my cool vampire skin. The moment his fingers locked around my pulse point, a sharp shock ran straight up my arm and hit me right in the chest. My breath caught in my throat. My inner vampire, who had been screaming all evening, went dead silent.
I stared at his hand on my wrist, my heart hammering against my ribs.
He froze too. He looked down at where his skin was touching mine, his breath coming in short, heavy bursts.
"What are you?" he whispered, his grip tightening just enough to keep me in place.
"Nobody," I said, my voice barely above a whisper now. The cold anger I had been carrying all day was melting away, replaced by a sudden, terrifying heat that spread through my blood. "Just someone who wants to forget today ever happened."
"You smell like rain," he muttered, stepping even closer until his chest was inches from mine. "Like a storm."
"And you smell like fire," I said, my pulse racing under his thumb. "Are you going to keep standing there holding my hand, or are you going to do something about it?"
He didn't answer with words. He tightened his grip on my wrist, turned around, and pulled me toward the back of the club.
I didn't pull away. I didn't ask where we were going. I let him drag me through the narrow hallway toward the private rooms at the back, where thick dark curtains kept out the rest of the world.
He shoved open a curtain, pulled me inside, and let it fall shut behind us.
The noise of the club dropped to a quiet hum. The room was small, lit only by a faint red light near the ceiling.
Before I could even take a breath, he backed me up until my shoulders hit the wall. He came with me, his massive frame trapping me completely. His hands came up to frame my face, his thumbs brushing over my cheeks, just below the edge of my mask.
"Tell me your name," he growled against my ear, his hot breath brushing my neck.
"No names," I breathed, my hands coming up to rest against his chest. I could feel the hard muscle under his shirt, the fast, heavy beat of his heart matching mine. "Just tonight."
"Just tonight," he repeated, his voice low and dangerous.
Nikolai POVThe metal handle rattled a second time, louder this time, sending a cold spike of panic straight through the air between us.Bella’s hands gripped my shoulders so tight her nails bit into my skin. Her dark eyes were wide, fixed on the lock, every drop of color drained from her face. If Chloe walked in right now—if she saw her sister pinned against the counter with my arms wrapped around her waist and my eyes glowing red—everything we were trying to build would shatter into pieces. The contract, the deal, the protection for her family. All of it would go down the drain."Bella?" Chloe’s voice came through the thick panel again, light and innocent. "Is someone in there with you?"Bella opened her mouth, but her throat locked up. She couldn't speak. She couldn't even breathe.I had to fix this right now.I lifted Bella off the edge of the counter, setting her feet down quietly on the floor. I shoved my red eyes back under control, burying the demon deep inside my chest until
Nikolai POVThe puck slammed against the glass with a loud crack, echoing through the cold, empty arena. I didn't stop to take a breath. I reached down, pulled another puck toward my skates, and took another hard floor. It was nearly one in the morning, but going to my room was pointless. Every time I tried to close my eyes, her scent filled my chest. It was drifting through the vents from the top floor where the staff offices were. She was still up working on the team schedule, and her dark, rainy scent was driving my inner demon completely crazy.I hit three more pucks into the net, my arms burning, sweat dripping off my chin. The ice was tore up around my skates, but the work wasn't doing anything to cool the fire under my skin.I looked up at the glass office overlooking the rink. The lights were still on.I glided over to the bench, unlaced my skates with quick movements, and threw on a plain shirt and gym pants. I didn't plan on talking to her. I told myself I was just going to
Bella POVI pulled my hand back from Nikolai’s grip so fast my skin stung. My heart was slamming against my ribs, but I squeezed my fingers into a tight fist and tucked my arm behind my back before anyone could notice how hard I was shaking."So," my father said, completely ignoring the thick silence between us as he gestured toward the long glass table in the center of the room. "Let's get down to business. We have a few details to arrange before dinner."We all sat down. Chloe took the seat right beside Nikolai, leaning close to him to whisper something in his ear. Nikolai barely nodded at her, his posture stiff, his eyes fixed entirely on me across the glass. I kept my face blank, opening my folder and spreading the paperwork out in front of me to give my hands something to do."To make sure this merger moves forward without any press problems," Mr. Volkov started, resting his hands on the table, "we need complete control over Nikolai’s public image during this hockey season. The m
Nikolai POVMy knuckles were raw, but I didn't care. I threw another fast jab into the punching bag, watching it swing back before hitting it again with everything I had. Sweat was dripping into my eyes, stinging, but the pain was the only thing keeping my mind off that night. It had been two days. Two days since I met the woman in the silver mask at the club, and I still couldn't get her out of my head. Every time I blinked, I remembered the way her skin felt under my hands, hot and smooth, and the way her pulse jumped when I touched her wrist. My inner demon was clawing at my ribs, restless and angry, demanding to go back to the docks and search every inch of the city for her."That bag didn't do anything to you, Nikolai."I stopped, my breath coming in heavy gasps, and turned my head. My father stood near the doorway of the private training room, his arms crossed over his chest. He wasn't smiling. He never smiled."Just blowing off steam," I said, wiping my forehead with the back o
