ALINA

The moment Pietro opened the door, Bella’s voice slammed into us like a gust of wind.

She was screaming, and I'm not talking a calm yell, this was a full on shriek that could have woken the dead if there was any to be woken.

“LUCA!” she shrieked. “How could you?!”

She was standing in the middle of the living room, her hair wild, her face blotchy with fury.

She looked like she hadn’t slept because her eyes were swollen, her makeup stained, and the silk of her blouse was wrinkled as though she'd fisted and wringed it all day. .

“Bella,” Luca said calmly, his voice carrying that dangerous softness I’d learned to recognize.

He leaned against the doorway with his arms crossed, perfectly still, like he had all the time in the world to let her scream. “You shouldn’t be here. What are you doing here?”

She turned on him like she might claw his face off. “You killed him! You killed my husband, Luca! Two days! I was his wife for two days!” Her voice cracked, part fury, part hysteria, p

ALINALuca was asleep beside me, sprawled on his back with one arm over his chest, his features soft in a way that made him look younger. He looked almost peaceful, if not for the faint furrow still between his brows. Even in sleep, some part of him never rested.I reached out, brushing his hair off his forehead, and my chest squeezed. Yesterday’s events felt unreal, as though I was trapped a nightmare I couldn’t quite escape. Matteo was dead. Luca had killed him. The man who’d spent years hurting him, breaking him, now gone, by his own hand.I thought it would feel like relief, but there was still something dark hiding in Luca’s eyes when he’d come home last night. He’d said he was fine, but I knew he wasn’t. At least not completely.I slid carefully out of bed, pressing a kiss to his temple before slipping on one of his shirts. It was loose around me, brushing my thighs as I walked downstairs. Cooking was a distraction, and it was one I needed, besides, no one ever said no t

LUCAThe world should’ve felt quieter now that Matteo was dead. Instead, it felt louder. Every breath rasping through my chest was a gunshot, every creak of the floorboards under my boots a scream. My hands were still trembling, though not from fear because fear had burned out of me hours ago, replaced by something uglier.Blood. That’s all I could smell. It clung to me, sticky and hot as if it wanted to remind me what I’d done. My father’s blood was under my fingernails, smeared on my shirt, dried on my knuckles.I’d meant to break him. That was the plan. Cut off his hands, his feet, make him live with it. Make him watch his empire crumble from a wheelchair. But when I saw his face, the sneer, the contempt, the way he spat my mother’s name like it was dirt, I knew there wasn’t enough pain in the world to repay what he’d done. Now here I was, pacing the living room of my own house like a caged animal, my hands fisting and unfisting at my sides. I’d scrubbed my face three times a

LUCAAlvez fell in step beside me, his hoodie pulled low over his face, the light of his cigarette barely visible. Vector walked ahead, his shoulders tense and jaw set like he was marching to war.We were matching to war. Matteo had been bouncing between safe houses like a hunted dog for weeks. We’d mapped every pattern, every stop. Ionight, he was cornered. I’d planned this raid down to the last second. We were go break in, cut him down, strip him of the empire he built off our blood. I was going to make him crawl, and beg, then make him live with what he’d done.I wanted him to look me in the eye while I cut him into pieces. “Cameras show four guys outside the place,” Vector muttered, glancing at the tablet in his hands as we reached the cars. “They’re armed, and there's two more on the roof.”“Inside the house?” I asked.“There’s no more than five. He’s not expecting company.”Good. Let him be comfortable. Let him sip his whiskey and believe no one would dare come for him.Alve

ALINAA sigh slipped out before I could push it down and swallow it back. “Of course,” I muttered, removing myself from Luca’s chest even though every part of me wanted to stay hidden there.“Don’t answer,” Luca said. “You don't have to answer. She hasn’t done anything but give you reasons to not answer.” But I had to. This was my mother. The woman I had grown up with for almost all my life. “I have to answer, Luca. We have to know how they feel about all this.” And answering my mother's call gave me insight into what was being planned. I stood and paced across the office, lifting the phone to my ear. “Alina.” Mother's voice was harsh, and she didn't make a pretense of sounding worried or affectionate. “Why didn’t you come to the wedding?”For a second, my chest tightened so fast I thought I’d stop breathing. I stood stupidly frozen, trying to understand why she would ask that. It was such a bland question, and it made absolutely no sense. My stomach knotte “Because,” I said

LUCAAlvez’s grin was all the proof that I needed to be sure that he meant it. “You can't go there and make a fucking scene. He'll shoot you in the head.” I muttered.I'd never claim I wanted my father's happiness, matter of fact I wouldn't give two fucks if Alvez shot him, but knowing my father, he wouldn't take chances with his wedding. Vector shoved his hands into his pockets, tilting his head. “He’s right, Luca. You should come. It’s better if he sees you there, if everyone sees you. It’s power if you walk in and remind him who you are. Show him who really rules this town.” I slanted my head down, working through the knot of anger in my throat. “Or I walk in and slit his throat in front of his bride. Don’t tempt me.”The silence that followed was thick, broken only by the shuffle of guards escorting Mila’s screams farther down the drive.Vector studied me with that feral grin of his, but his eyes were searching, and measuring me. “Wouldn’t be the worst way to end a wedding.”“I
