~ CHAPTER 1~

~ HYACINTH CLAUSEN ~

I looked at the shiny, gold-coloured invitation to a club that a friend of mine from my college class has opened a few weeks ago. If I chose to be honest then I would say that the college was pretty awful, too structured, too systematic, and too theoretical to allow for the true appreciation of art. But I had to join something to fulfil my graduation credit requirements to live along with these humans. This was not the place I belong to. I hate humans, the way they reek of sweat but anything. They disgust me to the point that I want to rip their heads off their body to watch how their fragile body would run of blood and life as they would fall to the ground with a loud thud... Umm... Even the thought of it was so fascinating...

Suddenly, an inevitable urge to kill humans surged into my veins and I flipped the card over a few times as if deciding whether to act on my sudden whim or not. It was a wrinkled piece of cardboard that I had thrown at the bottom of my backpack as soon as I had received it. I didn’t have the time to attend clubs being opened by university students when I had the obligation to run my pack along with my mother, Kendall Clausen. It was what I had been doing since my mother divorced my father, Alpha Arthur Clausen and they separated their ways for good.

‘Rich human kids and their annoying habit of throwing around their money.’

I scoffed as the thought crossed my mind. I tossed the card onto the table in the living room, before heading to my room to get changed.

It was the perfect day to get drunk. It was the day that should be celebrated as it was the day when mom finally succeeded in seducing Alpha Gerald Forest. The God himself. The alpha of Twilight pack.

We both wanted to bring more forces into our pack so that our pack would become undefeated by our enemies.

Our place was not something like a fairytale as these humans describe in their so-called, childish fantasy books. But it was the place where the weak must be killed if they couldn't survive.

Our enemies were not just the neighbouring packs but also the wizards and other creatures. For they thought our pack have something hidden that made us successful and our lands fertile. That was why we came second powerful after alpha Gerald Forest's pack.

I should be celebrating but somewhere in my heart, there was an ache for my father. Although, it has been so long since my parents separated that I have forgotten his face. Only some blurry memories that stayed behind were all that I have left.

My heart was still holding onto the thought that my father would return someday. However, I was also aware of the fact that we could not just sit around and wait for him to save us from the enemies who were simply waiting for a chance to destroy and take over our pack.

So many thoughts were colliding in my head at the same time that I couldn't seem to ignore and the only way to ignore them was to get drunk. That was the best thing I had adapted from these humans. They get drunk when they get happy about something, for they believe that getting drunk was a way to increase their happiness. And they get drunk when they feel sad, for it's the best way to forget what was eating you inside.

However, as a werewolf, I knew that it was just bullshit to get drunk on these human's alcohol, I could never get drunk.

But then I need something to feel anything but numb.

So I decided to call my friend of mine who was born to a human and a werewolf. Rachel Peterson. She was my only friend here.

Rachel picked up her phone on the second ring and her voice came out slurry. She was probably drunk...

"Care to pick me up to get more drunk?" I asked but I doubt if she had heard me. She was somewhere noisy. I could hear the pounding sound of the rock music.

"Sure... I'll be there..." Her voice was pitch high that it nearly bled my ears.

Fuck! Damn this sensitive werewolf ear!

"No, need. You seem too drunk to pick me up, just send me your location." I sighed. I didn't want her to die on me while picking me up. Rather, I did not want to get into any accidents.

"Alright!" She exclaimed as she cut the call and I stared at the blank screen as I waited for her message.

My phone screen chimed as I looked at the location she sent. I have already changed my clothes so I walked out of the villa, which my mom bought me on my eighteenth birthday.

I hopped into my car and drove off to the club.

As soon as I reached there and threw the keys at the valet. I didn't have to search for Rachel as she was already waiting for me outside.

She waved at me as soon as she found me among the crowd. I waved at her as I made my way to her.

"Let's go..." She didn't say much but dragged me toward the entryway as she must have seen the hint of sadness on my face.

"This is Hyacinth." She introduced me to the guard and he nodded to let us in but I had already taken out my ID from my wallet. He quickly scanned it, nodding in approval.

"Yeah, go ahead." He removed the rope to let us in, and the complaining from the crowd seemed to get louder.

Rachel quickly dragged me inside by my arm which I was sure would rip out of its socket any second as we passed through the crowd.

Heading over to the tightly-packed bar, she called out to one of the busy bartenders like they were old buddies. She was a regular here so it was only natural that they knew each other.

He nodded in response as he shuffled with a couple of bottles of beer, handing them over to a couple of men. I didn't pay them any attention as Rachel screamed over the loud music that she was getting on the dance floor.

And within minutes she vanished into the crowd of grinding bodies to dance with a stranger as I sat still on a stool, drinking my vodka shots.

"What is a pretty girl like you doing sitting here all alone?"

My face slightly scrunched up in disgust as a man's heated drunken voice whispered close to my ear.

Turning my head to look at the stranger, I saw a balding man in dark clothing.

Helen, my wolf talked in my head, she jumped in excitement, maniacally.

"Should we kill him?" I didn't respond to her. And rolled my eyes.

"Waiting for my boyfriend." I tried to ignore him, sipping away at my shot, but his hand suddenly rested on my waist.

"Let me buy you a drink, sugar."

"No, I am good. Thanks for the offer anyway."I moved away from him, indicating my discomfort.

Fuck, I so wanted to kill that bastard. I was on the verge to snap as my claws and my front teeth started to get visible.

"Control Helen, it's not the right time to lose our shit. It's too crowded." I instructed her to control herself. But it was getting out of hand as my wolf Helen decided to take control and I turned to murder that human with a growl.

"She said no. Leave her alone." A strange, authoritative voice suddenly came from behind me. I turned around to see a man standing there, and as soon as I saw him, I controlled my wolf.

"Who the fuck are you? Leave. I am talking to her.." The man said persistently, glaring at that ruthless looking man's face as he scanned his crisp suit.

"I am her fucking boyfriend," The man whom I didn't even know suddenly announced as my boyfriend as my eyes turned widened to the size of the tennis ball.

CHAPTER 22HYACINTH The dining room was quiet—too quiet. The clinking of silverware against plates was the only sound that filled the air. I could feel the weight of the moment pressing down on me. Silas sat at the opposite end of the table, his posture rigid, his eyes deliberately avoiding mine, as if acknowledging me in this setting would somehow shatter whatever calm he was trying to maintain.I tried to focus on my plate, but the tension in the room made it impossible. Kendall and Gerald were seated next to each other, engaged in quiet conversation, their easy familiarity only serving as a stark reminder of how out of place I felt. They hadn’t been married long, but they already seemed so comfortable with each other—so normal.I glanced up at Silas again, his jaw clenched as he poked at his food, not really eating. There was something about the way he was sitting there, so painfully distant, that made my stomach turn. The last time we’d been this close, everything had shifted. As

  • Silas   Chapter 21

HyacinthI was playing a dangerous game.Silas and I had been careful—too careful. But that didn’t change the fact that, behind closed doors, away from prying eyes, we were slipping. Every stolen glance, every lingering touch, every whispered word in the dead of night pulled us further into something we couldn’t name.Something we couldn’t stop. The fortress that was Alpha Gerald’s estate had too many eyes, too many ears. Yet somehow, in the chaos of running a pack, in the shadows of responsibility, we found slivers of time. Moments that shouldn’t have existed but did.Like now.I sat in the vast library, the scent of aged paper thick in the air. A book lay open in my lap, but I wasn’t reading. My heart was pounding too loudly for that. Silas was here, somewhere. I could feel it, the awareness of him settling over me like an unspoken truth. And then, as if summoned by my thoughts, the door creaked open.I didn’t look up immediately, but I knew. The air shifted, charged with something

  • Silas   Chapter 20

Chapter 20 – SilasThe sound of the horses' hooves echoed through the woods, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the forest as I led the small group toward the eastern boundary of the pack's territory.I’d been on edge all day, a constant nagging feeling in the pit of my stomach. The rogue wolves had been more active lately, and that was never a good sign. It was always the calm before the storm. But that wasn’t the only thing weighing on my mind. No matter how hard I tried to push it away, the image of Hyacinth lingered. Her eyes, the way she’d looked at me—like there was some unspoken understanding between us that I wasn’t ready for. I couldn’t get her out of my head.I couldn’t decide if that was a curse or a blessing. The roar of a distant wolf’s call snapped me out of my thoughts, and I motioned for the group to stop. We had to be alert, especially if we were getting close to a rogue’s territory.“Spread o

Chapter 19 – SilasThe echo of the door clicking shut lingered like a slap to my face. She left.My fists clenched, the anger bubbling under my skin almost unbearable. But the anger wasn’t directed at her—not really. It was at myself. At the world. At this godforsaken situation I couldn’t seem to control.I ran a hand through my hair, pacing the room like a caged animal. The scent of her was still everywhere, woven into the sheets, hanging in the air. It drove me mad, pulling me back to the way she had unraveled beneath me, how she had clung to me like I was her lifeline. And now, she was gone. Again. The night had been a mistake. That much was clear. But God help me, I didn’t regret it. I couldn’t. Even as I stood there, stewing in my frustration, all I could think about was how perfect she felt in my arms, how she made me feel alive in a way I hadn’t in years. But Hyacinth didn’t see it that way. To her, it was a line crossed. A mistake to bury and forget. That thought twisted somet

  • Silas   chapter 18

Chapter 18 – HyacinthThe golden hues of morning seeped through the curtains, dust particles swirling lazily in the sunlight. I lay there, motionless, trying to make sense of the storm raging inside me. Every brush of the sheets against my bare skin felt like a whisper of his touch, a phantom reminder of the night that had unraveled everything.Silas’s arm draped across my waist, heavy and possessive even in sleep. His breath was steady against the nape of my neck, a soft rhythm that somehow grounded me and terrified me at the same time. What had I done? The thought echoed in my mind, louder and louder, drowning out everything else.Carefully, I eased out from beneath his arm, every movement deliberate and slow. The last thing I needed was for him to wake up. My heart pounded with each inch I gained, the fear of breaking the fragile peace between us almost paralyzing. When I finally slipped out of the bed, I stood there for a moment, staring at him. • Silas   CHAPTER 17

Chapter 17– SilasI watched her walk away, the sound of her footsteps echoing through the hall, each step a reminder of how much she haunted me. I should’ve stopped her, dragged her back, and kissed her until she couldn’t breathe. But I didn’t. I couldn’t. Not yet.Hyacinth was a storm, unpredictable and fierce. Every part of me ached for her, but there was a war inside me, a fight between what I wanted and what I knew I shouldn’t have. She was too dangerous, too tangled in my life in ways I couldn’t control. But that didn’t change the fact that my thoughts were consumed by her, every waking moment a struggle to stay away.I rubbed my hand over my face and turned, walking away from the library. The house felt too quiet without her, but I couldn’t stay in the same space with her right now. The tension was unbearable, and I needed air, freedom. The back porch offered some solace, the cool breeze brushing against my skin as I leaned against the railing, staring out into the expanse of tr
