4-Mamma Mia

Time went by really fast and soon it was Monday. I had woken up early because I wanted to visit the school library before going to class. As I was about to leave, Sam woke up, she yawned and stretched her body.

"Hey, good morning roomie." She muttered sleepily.

"Morning, Sam" I said as I put the last book in my bag.

Sam stood up and went off to the bathroom,I waited so I could inform her that I was leaving.

A few minutes later,  she came back to the room with a charcoal face mask on her face

"You're leaving for school so early? Classes don't start until eight o'clock. It's only a few minutes to seven."

"I know, I just want to check out the library before going to class." I told her.

"Can I have your phone?" She asked before gently grabbing the phone from me.

"What's your password?"

I stared at her, what was she going to do with my phone?

"Your password! Or do you have secrets, bad things and porn on your phone?"

"No!" I defended myself, I would never ever have that on my phone.

"Then tell me!"

"Fettuccine Alfredo" I answered.

"What?" It was her turn to stare at me.

I laughed, "it's a dish I'd love to prepare someday."

It's my dream to make different dishes and have my own restaurant in the future.

I've always had a passion for cooking and baking, but our financial situation wouldn't let me explore my talents as I wanted to.

"Oh! I thought it's the name of your dad or something." She chuckled as she typed on my phone.

"So, you're like, into nutrition?" She asked as she went over to her bed to pick her phone.

"Umm, yes. Nutrition and Dietetics, that's my course of study."

"Mine is Economics. Not that I need it though, I'll inherit my father's company after college so I'm just in school for fun."

Who the hell goes to school for fun? Rich people's kids.

"I thought you have an elder sister, why would you inherit the company when she's there."

"She's not my father's daughter. My mom was married to her dad before, but they got divorce after giving birth to her. My mom got married to my dad and gave birth to me, and I'm the only child. So, that makes me entitled to my dad's company." She explained.

My mouth formed an 'o' as I listened to her.

"She lives with her dad and they're quite rich too."

Her phone rang out but she cut the call almost immediately. She handed me back my phone with a smile.

"There, now you have my number and I have yours, I can give you a call anytime."

"Okay, see you later." I said as I walked out of the room and closed the door behind me. People were walking up and down the hallway, getting ready for the day's activities. I paused and took a deep breath before I made my way to the school library in search of some books related to my course.

--

After my classes, I decided to go job hunting. I visited every café in school but none of them hired me, their response was either 'Sorry, no vacancies for now,' or 'We'll get back to you,' which means they won't.

I decided to go outside the school gate. The first one I saw was 'Macy's Coffee Shop' written with gold glitters, it seemed like a new cafe. I said a little prayer in my heart before I headed inside.

There was a friendly chime that sounded as I entered, the place was warm and painted in cream color, drawings of doughnuts and cupcakes with different toppings were drawn all over the wall making it more appealing to the eye.

There weren't a lot of people seated, just a few here and there.

"Welcome to Macy's, what would you like to order, Miss?" A girl behind the counter said with a dimpled smile, She had black glowing skin, her hair was braided with blue and white extensions and they were packed neatly in a bun.

She was pretty.

Her name, 'Lucy' was tagged on her apron.

I looked behind the girl to see the list of their menu.

"Umm, I would like to order iced coffee and a slice of fruit cake."

"Sorry, we don't have any cake presently, just doughnuts." She said with an apologetic look.

"That's fine, I'll have it then." I said. I didn't even plan to buy something before, but I was tired from all the walking and wanted to relax a bit before asking if I could get a job.

Who knows, I might get lucky and land myself a job here.

"It'll be ready in a bit." Lucy said as she started to prepare my order. When she was done, I paid for it and went to have my seat at the front , near the window.

I relaxed in my seat while I ate quietly. A family entered the café as I took the last bite of my doughnut. I watched as they said their orders, they ordered a slice of carrot cake and three slices of chocolate cake but Lucy told them the same thing she told me.

"If you don't have any cake, then why put cakes as part of your menu! You just opened, you should have a lot of options!" The mother said to Lucy.

"We are so sorry, ma'am." Lucy kept apologizing.

"Let's just go, hon. We'll get it elsewhere." The woman said to her husband and they left with their children.

"Seth, we are losing a lot of customers because of this, haven't you found a baker yet?" Lucy said to someone in the room behind her. A middle aged man with Sandy brown hair came out.

"No, I haven't found anyone yet." The man I assumed to be Seth said with a frustrated sigh. He racked his hand through his hair and looked deep in thought.

I think that's my cue.

I stood from my seat and walked towards them.

"How may I help you, Miss. Do you need anything else?" Lucy asked, the dimpled smile back to her face.

This girl is super polite.

"No. Actually yes, I overheard you talking about looking for a baker."

"Yes, that's true." Seth said, interested in what I was about to say.

"Well, I know how to bake, I know a lot about it and I don't know if you would be interested in hiring me."

The both of them looked at each other before they turned to look at me.

" If- if you want, I could umm, make a little something for you right now before you decide if you'd like to hire me or not. But please let me show you what I can do." Pleaded. I was getting a bit nervous, what if they don't hire me and I still have to continue my hunt?

Please give me a chance. Lucy looked at her boss, waiting for his reply, I looked at him with pleading eyes.

"Why not, come on in-"

"Shea, it's Shea Collins." I told him my name.

"Come in, Shea." Seth said.

Thank goodness.

I walked to the other side of the counter where Lucy stood.

"Good luck." She said to me.

"Thanks." I replied to her with a smile.

I followed Seth to the kitchen, it was big and full of food supplies and kitchen equipment. I couldn't hide the smile on my face as I saw the big oven at the corner of the room, and the different set of kitchen knives and also the set of frying pan.

"It's all yours." Seth said before turning to leave.

"Sir, what should I bake?" I asked him.

"Anything you want to, but I want you to be done within five hours."

"Five hours, okay got it sir."

"You can call me Seth." He said and finally left the kitchen.

I ran over to the oven and opened it.

"Mamma Mia!" I said quietly as I inspected it, I checked the other equipment too before I got all the ingredients I needed and set to work.

--

Seth came to check on me exactly five hours later while I was dressing the last cake.

It was getting late already, Lucy came to check on me from time to time. Sam had also called me earlier and said she was worried when she returned from her sister's place and I wasn't in our room. I explained to her that I had some work to do and that I'll be home very soon.

" Wow, it smells nice here." He said as he walked towards the varieties of cakes I had baked, I took my time to dress every one of them.

"Well, I decided to bake six different types of cakes." I told him.

He cut a slice out of the one nearest to him and took a bite.

"Hmmm, this is good, really good." He mumbled as he took more bites.

"You like it?" I asked him.

"Yes, of course." He said as he cut a slice from another one.

"You're hired!"

"Ahh, thank you sir. I promise I won't disappoint you." I said happily.

"You can start tomorrow afternoon, we'll discuss your schedule and payment tomorrow. Please put these cakes on display, I'm sure the customers are gonna love them."

Lucy's shift had ended and she was about to go home since  there were no customers in the café again, but she helped me display the cakes.

"See you tomorrow, Shea." Lucy said before leaving the café.

I carried my bag and was about to inform Seth that I was leaving too when some guys walked in. They looked familiar but I couldn't figure out where I had seen them.

"Is this place still opened?" One of them asked as he looked around the empty café, he was attractive in every way, he had an earring on his left ear and it glittered as the light illuminated on it.

"I don't think so, Brandon. I think they're about to close." Another one said. He wasn't as attractive as the first one.

Another guy walked in and joined, as he looked at me, his green orbs locked with mine, Ryker.

We met again.

Now I remember these guys, I saw them with Ryker at the party.

"Let's go guys." The guy called Brandon said, and they all turned to leave.

"No, wait! Let's eat here." Ryker said, his eyes not leaving mine.
