Sophie pov 

I jerked up, holding my head in pain."Damn alarm," I muttered, reaching for my phone to turn it off. It wasn't until it hit the wall that I realized I'd flung it.

My mom knocked at my door. "Sophie! It's seven o'clock!"

I shook my head. I wasn't a kid anymore, obviously, I know!  I stood up, freeing myself from the sheets I was tangled in, exposing my naked body to the morning sun peeking through the curtains.

"Sophie..."

"I'm awake!" I screamed.

"Are you sure?”

I sighted Frank, my stepdad, while slowly coming down the stairs; he definitely was the last person I wanted to see this early morning.

My mom picked up her bag as I sat on a chair. "You guys have fun, ok?". I faked a smile, and as soon as she left, I got up from the table and walked to the fridge. 

"You should eat...breakfast.".

"Sophie.". I ignored him like he wasn't even sitting at the table.

"You know, your mum made breakfast...". I glared at him, instantly cutting him short.

 "Okay, you don't want to talk. You could just wink or maybe nod... Your mom said she heard a crash in your bedroom—are you okay?”

God, doesn't he ever give up?! I finished eating my breakfast and stood up with my plates. I could feel his eyes watching me as I went to drop the plates in the sink. Being in his presence made me sick, and I hated him more than I hated the devil. With a sigh, I picked up my school bag.

"Uh, have a nice day at school. You... look nice," Frank said. 

I froze in my tracks. "What the fuck did you just say to me?".

"You...look....nice.".

"Don't you ever... in your life compliment me. You don't deserve to compliment me. You are not my father and will never be! I already hate the fact that you live here," I screamed at him.

"We shouldn't keep doing this," Frank said instead.

 

I looked at him. "Yeah, you're right. All you can do to make this right is for you to leave our lives and not come back! I hate you.". I screamed again; this time, the tears were already welling up in my eyes.

I couldn't believe Mom would replace Dad with some...scum. He stole my mother from me. He stole our home. I banged the door as I left the dining room, leaving Frank totally shocked.

Reaching the garage, I heard him calling me fervently, but I ignored it and hastily made my way out.

I nodded. Ashley wrapped me in a hug. "What are you doing?" I asked.

“You didn't return any of my calls this morning, and you haven't said more than ten sentences. I should be worried.". Ashley pouted. 

She's right, but is she going to understand what I'm going through? Not willing to open up—at least not now, I simply changed the topic.

"You should be worried about what your mom is going to do when she finds out you've been sneaking her perfume to school.". 

Ashley sniffed her jacket, laughing hard at my words, "She'll definitely kill me. By the way, how do I look?" 

"Like a high school slut who smuggles dildos in her bag.”  I replied, nonchalantly eyeing her playfully.

Ashley pouted. "Whatever. I'm the sexiest person you'll ever meet, you know?". She said, but I didn't reply.
