Chapter 86

Igor

To say that my nerves were just frayed was an understatement. My mind was a jumbled mess, my body kept trembling even though the weather was nothing near cold.

As the door to Guilia’s ward flew open with Audrey strolling out without bothering to cast a glance at me, my heart leapt, not just in excitement but in fear too.

She’d already taken two steps away from me when I gathered the courage to go after her.

“Audrey,” I said quietly but loud enough for her to hear.

Her steps didn’t falter neither did her intention to keep moving forward. It felt like I didn’t matter. I was just another distraction that shouldn’t be given any attention.

I grabbed her arm gently, forcing her body to fold up in front of me while expecting a struggle. “Why are you ignoring me?”

“I didn’t know you were there. What do you want?” her tone was as cold and curt as ever. As though I was a staff member she could dismiss easily.

Chapter 88GuiliaIf there was anything that made me uncomfortable right now, it was the silent treatment Vladimir meted out to me as a form of punishment.I deserved it so I couldn’t even argue or demand that he stopped treating me that way. My mind was busy with different thoughts on how I could make him look at my face again and talk to me with a smile. Because he was indeed looking at me, but he wasn’t seeing me. His smiles were fake.None of them came from his heart, and it hurt because he took it upon himself to be my personal caregiver. He sauntered into the meeting room Dmitri had asked us to come to. I wasn’t sure what the meeting would be all about, but I knew it had something to do with the picture and all the events that had been happening lately. “Here’s your lunch. You need to take it and take your medication afterward,” he said all of these without sparing me a glance. My heart broke and when he turned to leave. I yanked his arm, ignoring the pain that shot through my

Chapter 87AudreyHis beady eyes shone even brighter basically in confusion.“When did you get the picture?” he asked.“A few weeks before Guilia’s wedding,” I replied, masking my hurt under a casual tone. The sender was anonymous which I was grateful for or he’d have paid for the consequences of another man’s sins.Pain, jealousy and anger sliced through my heart when I saw the picture of both people that should be important to me locking their lips. I was devastated, but I couldn’t do anything about the stupid feeling of betrayal that didn’t want to go away.I didn’t even know why I agreed to follow him in the first place. Igor was a gentleman and if I’d decided not to come with him, he wouldn’t have forced me, but strangely, even after everything I’d gone through I wanted to hear him out.“Guilia got this picture at the island too,” he shoved his fingers roughly through his hair in frustration. “Someone is playing games with us, Audrey. Part of the reasons I’m talking to you is to

Chapter 85Guiilia“Why the fuck isn’t she waking up?”A thick angry voice that could only belong to Vladimir jolted my unconscious body back into life. My eyes were as heavy as lead when I tried to open them, but I struggled to keep my eyelids apart from each other, a groan cracking from my throat. The room quietened, gazes turning slowly toward me. Vladimir’s eyes met mine; brown to blue. I was moved to tears. Ariel and Igor stood quietly, her eyes also laced with tears. I hated seeing people that mattered to me being in so much pain.He looked older in a few days of me being… Hold up, for how long had I been out?“How… long?” It was all I was able to ask as my throat closed up on me with Vladimir engulfing me in his arms.He smelled of anxiety and exhaustion. His beards grazed my jaw and I began to wonder when he changed his mind to grow out his beards. “Four days, honey. I thought I was going to lose you,”Four days and everything that went down that day. How we thought that the s

Chapter 84GuiliaThe afternoon sun grew hot as we drove around Seattle in search of a man who'd decided that we must have a hard time finding him. Igor had suggested that he goes alone to avoid putting me at any risk, but I was too restless to stay still.I wanted to link the weird coincidences to Carlton at all cost and it was going to be hard for me to believe that he didn’t do everything I suspected him of.“I wish everything will be over with a snap of my finger,” I blurted my thoughts out loud.Igor sighed, shaking his head probably in regret. “We can still take a turn if you want,” he suggested again.“Nothing is going to change my mind, Igor. If anything, I’m more eager to see this to the end. As much as I want to be with the boys so badly, I can’t be free if I don’t know the mastermind behind these schemes. We just have to find out, and we’ll do that today,” I said firmly.Admiration glimmered in his eyes when I finished talking, causing a huge blush to spread on my cheeks.

Chapter 83Guilia“Are you alright?” That was a question that had been asked a bit too much on this trip. Maybe it was because I was always zoning out, hissing at every slight discomfort. By now, Igor should be tired of me because I wasn’t even following through with our plans. He returned home last night with a lead on how to get the man who dropped the picture anonymously and even though my heart was shattered, I still offered to go with him to find the man.“Guilia, you seem very distracted. Are you sure you still want this meeting to be held? We can cancel it if you’re not feeling up to it,” he said in that fatherly voice that made me want to lay my head on his shoulder and hear him say that everything will be fine.I sighed, squinting my eyes as though the act could stop the stubborn ache in my forehead. “So that he can escape? I’m not risking it,”His head moved in a doubtful nod. “If that is the case why aren’t you saying anything in regards to the plans I’ve been making sinc
