Though she was still confident, she had a hint of fear, enough for her to avoid the queen’s gaze.

“What do you want Briar?”

Penelope asks angrily, she had lived peaceful after that fateful day, and now this woman threatens her.

“I want my daughter as the next queen, I do not know how her majesty would do it, but I believe you are capable.”

She Briar Arnold answers confidently, she and Penelope were on the same boat, they were two greedy women who would do anything for power, and she need not to be embarrassed about her greediness as she felt Penelope was the greediest.

“How bold of you to claim to kill the previous queen without a single hint of remorse.”

“But her majesty killed her only friend for a throne.” Briar speaks, “does she has the right to act nobler than me? We are both wicked women and have no right to act higher than thee.”

Penelope had busted into a laughter at Briar’s words, her confidence seems to amaze her, she had always known Briar Arnold to be a dumb woman even the late queen who had died at her hands so foolishly would agree. Now this dumb woman is attempting to extort her, how frivolous.

“His majesty the crown prince had met his mate this morning, I want her taken care of.”

She was about to attack when Briar finally spoke again, speaking words that were music to Penelope’s ears.

“He met her? where is she now?”

“No one is aware of that; all we know she is a mermaid.”

“Are you that misinformed stupid woman, we all know she is a mermaid; we have been searching for her for years now.” Penelope says angrily, though her plan to kill Briar had been postponed for a little while since Briar seem to provide her with information she needed, she still hated her.

“Anne reported that his majesty’s mark had disappeared, we all know what that mean your majesty.”

“But when we visited the ship there were no mermaid in sight, where could she have gone?”

“I do not know, but we all know women are greedy creatures, we can use the throne to bait her to her death.” Briar said.

“Ah… now you are giving me important information little Briar, considered your request for a favor granted.” Penelope says extending her hand to Briar, “Just make sure you make yourself available anytime I need you.”

The two women shake hands, Briar had smiled before bowing to leave the room, seems her plan B is a good plan.

[Somewhere in the deep sea.]

Ophelia was anxious when they had arrived at the first undersea palace, she knew they were in trouble. She was tasked to keep Avisa in check, and she had always known she failed every time.

“Don’t tense up Lia, father will not be mad, we will think of something when we arrive.”

Avisa comforts her friend and ‘bodyguard,’ she didn’t want her to get in trouble for not doing her job right, because she knows she is a handful creature.

After a long trip back from land she had decided to return to the sea after encountering his royal pain in the *ss again. Though it was unpleasant to see him again, humiliating him like those misogynistic men she had just killed, was an icing on her giant cake.

The two had arrived at his majesty, the siren king’s majestic drawing room, they had been summoned when they arrived.

“Your majesty you have called us.” Avisa greets making sure to use honorifics to show the distance between her and her father.

But a majestic presence greets the two as well, even though she hadn’t thought of a story to tell her father to cover up that she went to land, but the scene clearly shows that even if she had a story ready, she would be screwed nonetheless.

“Your majesty I greet you.”

The mermaid queen, Kara Marine, was there with all her glory, but the culprit who must have snitched on her, the little mermaid who thanked when she rescued them. She knew one of the mermaids was not compelled but she never thought the one would snitch on her.

“Ah... the princess need not to be so formal.” Kara spoke, “you saved my little girl, and I am here to thank you.”

“Quite impressive of you Avisa,” her father says, “I am happy you came home safe. The queen and her daughter had been waiting for the whole day to thank you.”

His firm voice sure sent a shiver down her spine, she knew she was in trouble and the is no sweet talking to get her out of it.

“Um… princess, thank you again for saving us.” The mermaid princess, Myra Marine speaks with her angelic voice, if she wasn’t so cute Avisa would be biting her neck off for snitching.

“Your majesty doesn’t have to thank me; we were in the same ship overall.” Avisa speaks.

“Um… no, you can talk to me comfortably, call me Myra.” She says sweetly, maybe Ophelia is not the only friend Avisa needs after all.

“Ah… young friendships are so sweet.” Kara interrupts the interaction, “but unfortunately we need to return home for dinner.”

With the final sentence Kara had said her goodbyes along with her cute daughter. If Avisa were born a witch, she would have cursed the queen for giving her this problem that is her angry father in front of her.

“You went to land!” an earthquake worthy shout from his majesty, a ruthless man known in all the four oceans as the king of massacres.

Though he would want to shout at his daughter and ask where she got that attitude and unwavering resolute, he already is the person she inherited all that from. He knows he has the bad genes that stand out in his daughter.

“Yes, it was kind off a nice place, expect from the men there, did you know men there are misogynistic?”

She tries to lighten the mood, which she successfully did, because her father sighs before taking a deep breath.

“Ophelia, you may leave us.”  Kyrtos speak, Ophelia bows her head before heading out.

The two fathers and daughter seats down before even starting a conversation, but if you ask Avisa, it was all her father’s fault to begin with, he is the one who yelled at her for beating up Aran for bullying Ophelia. ‘He is the duke’s son’ is what her father said, ugh duke son my *ss, she is a princess why should she spare a small fry.

“I am sorry, I shouldn’t have gone to land.” Avisa says.

“Apologizing before you get scolded? Oh, what did you do there?” he asks sarcastically, his daughter had come back full of life unlike his wife who returned as a corpse, he need not make things worse by arguing with her.

“Oh, you would be surprised by how well-behaved I was.” She lies, if she tells him about beating his royal pain in the behind, she would be in so much trouble.

“That is good” he smiles at her, “I am sorry about the Tony Situation, I talked to the duke and he will sort it out.”

“I am sorry too; I shouldn’t have run away.” She speaks, reconciling with her father was always a good thing for her, they both curl into a warm hug, since the death of the queen they have been each other’s support and it is comforting for both.

“Ah… Avisa how did it go?”

Ophelia chimes when she sees Avisa enter the room, Avisa first signal for the maids to leave the room before speaking.

“It was good, you know dad has a soft spot for me, well sometimes.” She jokes.

“Great, at least that is the last time we go to land, I already have wrinkles from all that stress.”

“Who said it is the last time?” Avisa asks Ophelia to gasp with fear and exhaustion, of course Avisa had a taste of danger, she is going to go back again for more.

[Ophelia’s POV]The war had taken so much from us, but it also gave us a lot of lessons. When Avisa told me that she would be stepping down, I was not surprised at all.Avisa was not one to aspire to lead. For some reason, I felt like she had planned this all along. From the first day she declared that I was not just her second hand, I was her sister. She was going to give me the throne, and her leaving to see the world didn’t surprise me either. We had only lived in a secluded area of the sea, and Avisa was naturally curious. She wanted to see more than just the sea corals.“Your highness, someone is here to see you,” taking over as crown princess was not as challenging as Avisa had somewhat trained me to be so.Having to boss around Aran was just an icing on the cake, but the problem lies in him, the man that couldn’t stop visiting.“Your highness,” said Arnoux Crescent, the man who used his positi

  • Siren's blood   Chapter 47 – Travel the world.

[Avisa’s POV]The war was surely turning out to be too much. I could feel fatigued from the hours of fighting. I didn’t know when it would end, but I wanted it to end positively. I had seen them almost take my best friend and slash my father’s face.We fought a formidable opponent, and the cause of it all, the cause of Penelope Stoker, she had caused it all.I wanted her head, the head of the woman who took my mother, the woman who turned my mate into a sob story. She needed to be taken down, and maybe in my pursuit I got distracted. My father and Ophelia’s screams in union jolts me awake to a vampire behind me attacking me.It is Jordan’s stoker that takes the attack head on, taking all the damage. Dean immediately secures my back as Penelope is attacking me as well.I felt dazed, it seemed Mr. Stoker was taking his last breath, “Focus Avisa!" Dean screamed at me.“Your…... your father

[Ophelia’s POV]My aim was one thing: I had told Avisa already what I wanted, to kill my mother, for killing my father because of her insecurities.I wanted to see her face when I, the daughter she was so ashamed of her, killed her. I wanted to see her eyes when I disappointed her just when she took her last breath.I hated how she was rescued; they should have left her there so she could suffer, but at least she was helping us take care of the enemy.Getting closer to her was quite hard, but soon I was face to face with the woman that gave birth to me.“How does it feel, mother? Do you feel dumb now?” she clearly was not swallowing her pride because she attacked me as I spoke. But she was already weakened, and her slaps were very weak. Her nails couldn’t even scrape me.“This is what you get for being so stupid,” I repeated the words she had told me repeatedly when she would beat me up after Avisa

  • Siren's blood   Chapter 45 – The game we enjoyed playing as kids

[Dean’s POV]The war started as quickly as Penelope arrived. We were clearly outnumbered, but one this is for sure they underestimated my little Avisa, because half of the vampires were charging. We were stopped by one scream from my Avisa alone.“What is that?” Arnoux said, pointing to a machine drawing blood, with someone hooked in the middle.“My mother,” Ophelia says, appearing next to him. He seemed startled when he saw her. “How pathetic, she probably thought they would treat her like a queen. Now she is just an endless blood supply. Kill her first.”Ophelia’s command comes as a shock to most. If that was her mother, why would she want her dead? She clearly looked at me, sensing my judgement.“What, she has already chosen her side? We need to stop more vampires from powering up, so she needs to be taken out.” She was firm and decisive, clearly not playing like a perfect daughter at a

[Avisa’s POV]In many tales of the first blood that she had read, and in all of them, her ancestors ended up in humiliation. If it was not for the sun and the sea, they wouldn’t have survived. This time she needs to change the reign, they need to end up victorious, they need to show the fury of a siren.“You look ready,” her father’s voice jolts her awake, “my daughter, whatever happens today, I will protect you and see to it that you survive.”He hugged her before giving her a kiss on the forehead. The best warriors of the sea were gathered. As confident as I was, I still fear the unknown.“Father,” I said softly, “I don’t want the throne.”Bold words to say before a war, but I felt like, with the ambiguity of this war, I needed to let my father know that I really had no dream of being a successor. He giggles softly, “I know, and I am okay with it. The magical tree was in full bloom. Those who don’t know would think it must be an indication of a beautiful season starting, but those who know why know that it is a symbol of the bloodshed that shapeshifters are about to spill.Shifters in the enchanted forest were created for just one purpose: to carry the goddess’s will. They were never given the power to make their own decisions, they live to achieve another’s desires.Even if the goddess of creation and fate, one who has a desire to destroy others solely because things are not going her way, they cannot help but support her.For many years they carried out orders they didn’t agree with. The first stoker she created was way too perfect, too perfect as she wanted him for herself. And that is why she compelled him to kill his mate so that she could have him whole. It drove him mad, knowing he had killed the person he loved the most. That was not to the goddess’s lik

The meeting was very productive. We had a very clear plan, only a month before the war and it seemed we were not outstripped. But my focus was purely on Ophelia, who was busy giggling with some other siren. He had glanced at me several times and smirked every single time.I tried catching up with her after the meeting, but she wasn’t letting up, and even when I did catch up, the stupid guy wouldn’t leave her side.“Can we help you sir?” the guy asked smugly. If only it was the two of us, I would have wiped that smug with a punch.“I want to have a word with Ophelia,” I am directing. She doesn’t seem like she wants to play around and so do I.The guy looks at me wearily before she sighs, “You can go Aran. I will handle this. Let Avisa know of my plan when you see her,” he rolls his eyes before leaving.“Why is he acting like she belongs to him?” I muttered angrily under my brea

[Arnoux’s POV]The pack was surely in chaos, the secret was out, our Luna was fake, everyone seemed to have lost trust in me and my family, and that was not my worry. My worry was her, though she did ruin me by letting everyone know she was my mate. Her voice carried a terrifying finality when she said we would never be bonded.Surprisingly, it didn´t feel like something I wanted, though the first thing out of my mouth after meeting her was to reject her, for some reason.“Arnoux the elders are here,” again, there might be a war soon and the only thing these people care about is who I am mated with.“What do they want?” I grumble.“They want to talk about you releasing the Luna from the dungeon.”“You mean the woman who conspired against me? That woman is no Luna. Go tell the elderly that they will not do as they please here. I am alpha, and I make decisions.”Jason Stoker had a whole spy in my pack and the spy ended up being m

[Avisa’s POV]With the revelation of a blood war, our departure from the enchanted forest was abrupt. We had to tell our father about it and make preparations so we could be ready to protect our people. But it worried me how out of it Lia was. “Are you okay?”“I…... I did something terrible.” That was the last time Lia and I had a conversation. Right now we have a crisis at hand.Because since my father returned, he had been looking for his right-hand woman who was nowhere to be found.Naiad had left my father’s side saying she was to say goodbye to her old friends, never to be seen again, and there had not been any communications yet.Was she kidnapped by the vampires? If yes, we are in big trouble, especially with a blood moon coming soon, and the war will start.“Still haven’t found Naiad?”“Of course, not dimwit, what do you want from me?” Aaron, my co
