Inaya’s POV
“Dad! Father!! Honey!!” Alex, Mother, and I called at the same time. Those were the words I never expected to hear from my Father’s mouth. “I can’t let this alliance go,” Father stated with authority, “Never.” A gloomy look made its way to Mother’s face, “How can you ask my younger daughter to marry her sister’s husband?” “Beckham isn’t Karisa’s husband,” Father explained to Mother. “Have you forgotten they already……” “That’s enough!!” Father yelled shutting Mother up, “I have made my decision and that’s final.” “Father I cannot get married to a man I know nothing about,” I disagreed with Father’s decision. “When you get married to him, you will know him,” I burst into laughter. “I have never listened to you before so I won’t do that today,” I made myself loud and clear. Getting married at this point in my life was a NO, and getting married to the man my sister was arranged to be married to was a bigger NO. “Inaya can never get married to Beckham Henderson,” Alex yelled. Obviously, he doesn’t want me to be more powerful than him, so he won’t agree, and I hate the fact that I was going to support him today. “If you don’t marry him then I will cut off everything and render you penniless,” Father threatened. I giggled mentally, I wasn’t the right person to threaten, “Do you think I care?” I have enough money in my slush fund to take care of me for years. Mother wouldn’t let me go penniless, Karisa would never do that, and Alex would provide for me as long as I don’t have access to this family wealth. Father locked eyes with me and said to Mother, “You have one hour to convince your daughter.” “I will be in my room, excuse me,” I said and walked away from Father’s reading room. I didn’t want to wake my friends up so I went to Karisa’s room. I searched around the room for any clues, but there was nothing. I called but it kept taking me to voicemail. This wasn’t the plan, I have to think of something real fast because only the almighty knows what Father may do next. “Inaya,” Mother called calmly and I dropped my phone to give her my full attention. “Mother, why did you come here? Shouldn’t you inform the guest of the situation?” I held her hand and led her to sit on the bed. “Inaya,” Mother touched my face with love, “Have I ever asked you for anything?” I think I knew where this was going, I shook my head, “Mother please don’t ask me to marry a stranger.” “Inaya,” I stood up from the bed and I saw sadness in her eyes, I couldn’t bear to look at her, “If they leave here today then our heads will be hung in shame, it will be difficult to gain face in society and nobody knows what Mr Henry Henderson will do.” I wasn’t going to fall for this, “Mother please don’t involve me, Father will take care of his business.” “I understand but what of everything I have built over the years, what of everything your biological mother built for you before she died?” I felt my mother closely behind me, “Would you let that go down the drain?” I can’t destroy my life by being married to this man. I know nothing about him; he could have a disability, he could have mental health issues, he could be a drunk or an abuser. “I don’t want to hurt you, but you should know you raised a selfish daughter who doesn’t know how to sacrifice for others. I’m sorry,” I apologized and walked out of the room without sparing her a glance. “Inaya!!” Mother yelled in the hallway. I ignored her and continued walking. “Then you leave me no choice.” I turned to see what she was talking about. My soul almost left my body when I saw Mother place a knife to her wrist, “You have to choose today.” “Mother!!!” I yelled and it brought some attention to us. “Chloe!! What madness is this?” One of our relatives asked. “I just want my daughter to choose, or else I will kill myself right here and right now.” Tears rolled down Mother’s eyes. I’m sure Father made her do this; there was no way Mother would try to manipulate me this way. What did Father tell her to convince her? “Mother, we already talked about this,” I furrowed my brow as I took sluggish steps towards her, “You don’t need to act this way.” “You shouldn’t tell me how to act,” Mother said, “I just want you to fulfill just one thing for me, it will give you a very happy life, I’m your mother I will never make the wrong choice for you.” “It wasn’t about the wrong choice, I’m not ready to be married, that’s too much on me,” I couldn’t even tell her that I might be pregnant. “Okay then,” I guess you have made your choice, “I don’t deserve to live if I can’t give my daughter a better life.” Everything happened so fast that the next thing we saw was blood dripping from Mother’s wrist, “Mom, what have you done?” “Honey,” Father ran to hold Mother in his arms, “Call the doctor.” “Don’t…” Mom held Father’s shirt weakly, “Don’t…. Let… me just die.” “Mom!” I yelled, “You are losing blood.” “When….. I die, please allow my Inaya to bury me, allow my Inaya to be at the front carrying my coffin,” Tears rolled down Mother’s face. “Get any doctor!!!” Alex yelled to no one in particular. “Allow me to die,” Mother cried, “At least I will die knowing my daughter loved me.” Why was she like that? I’m sure Father put her up to this. Why was he doing this? If it were Father in this situation, I wouldn’t even bat an eye, but it was Mother, I can’t allow anything to happen to her. “What are you doing standing there? Make a decision!” Father shouted as if his life depended on it.Inaya’s POV I opened my eyes to the smell of something delicious cooking. I put on my robe and went downstairs to see who was cooking and what was cooking. To my surprise, it was Beckham cooking. He turned to me with a smile on his face and said, “You are up? I wanted to give you breakfast in bed.” The delicious smell immediately became sour in my nose, “You didn’t come home last night.” “Were you waiting for me?” Sir asked as he continued to stir what was on the fire. “No, I was wondering if you stayed at her place last night,” I said exactly how I felt.Sir lowered the gas to a low flame, he tapped on the kitchen island, “Come sit.” “Why?” I asked, “Did you really spend the night there? Do you want to apologize?” “I want to talk to you,” Sir said, “Please.” I couldn’t decline after hearing that, please. I entered the kitchen, and Sir helped me sit on the kitchen island. He sighed deeply as he held my hands, “I know I have hurt your feelings, I’m sorry, and no, I didn’t spen
Beckham’s POV “Get out of my room now,” I could hear Inaya’s voice shake. I grabbed Serena by the arms and dragged her out of Inaya’s room before Inaya could break down. This wasn’t what I expected from today’s dinner. I wanted everyone to have a peaceful dinner. I thought Inaya and Serena would get along, but I was wrong. I should have taken the dinner to a public place. Maybe then it would have been different. “What is the meaning of this?” Serena asked when we entered my room and I shut the door. “I should be asking you that, why were you creating a scene?” It took all my willpower not to yell at her. “Me? Was I creating a scene?” Serena crossed her hand on her chest, “It was that child who was creating a scene and not me.” “That child?” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, “You called my wife a child? Inaya is in her twenties, so she would act like one; however, you are in your thirties and you were acting like Inaya’s age.” “I don’t like her, I don’t want her aroun
Inaya’s POV “Being married to someone legally…. Oh thank you,” She said to the chef who served her food and continued spewing her nonsense, “Or traditionally doesn’t prove anything.” “You….”“Please, Akira is sitting here, Serena, she doesn’t need any of this drama,” Sir interrupted me, shutting all of us up and we focused on our dinner.I could see the hatred Mrs Henderson has for me, even Serena, who doesn’t know me, has the same look in her eyes towards me. I bet if it were Karisa, then everything would be different. Serena dropped her fork on her plate and asked, “So what is it like being married to Beckham?” “I’m obligated to answer?” I asked politely. I didn’t have an answer to her question. “Honey,” Serena had the nerve to call softly as she placed her well-manicured hand on Beckham’s shoulder, “Is it okay for you to answer that question?” “It’s like every normal relationship,” Beckham answered with his eyes still on his food. I was curious, what their relationship was l
Inaya’s POV “Sir,” I called in a whisper as I waved at him when I got to the mall.“I didn’t think you would come,” Beckham said when I got to where he was standing, “And we are still calling me sir.”“Sorry, I keep forgetting,” I smiled, “Why are you going grocery shopping by yourself?” I was surprised when he told me he was going grocery shopping by himself when he had people for that. “I wanted to cook you dinner,” Sir touched my nose with his finger, “Don’t be mad, Akira’s mom is joining us for dinner.” “Oh…Serene is coming,” I didn’t have much to say, “Is that why you want to make dinner?” Sir looked taken aback, “No, no, I planned on making dinner before her call came in, and I remembered,” I nodded my head, “Okay, how about we allow the chef to make today’s dinner, then I will make breakfast for you?” Why was I feeling insecure? It was just food. “You can make dinner; it doesn’t matter.” “It does, you don’t feel okay with it,” Sir said lovely, “It’s final we will have th
Inaya’s POV “Inaya, are you okay?” Keona’s voice brought me out of my deep thoughts. I nodded my head with a smile on my face, “Yes, I’m perfectly fine, why?” We decided to hang out at Eveline’s house this weekend instead of going horse riding or golfing with our family. “How was your date with the accountant guy?” I asked, changing the topic, and Eveline’s attention focused on us. Keona blushed, “It was fine, he took me to a farm,” Keona said excitedly but we all stared at her blankly. “A farm?” Eveline burst into laughter, “I…. Am…. Sorry….. but…. This…. Is…. Funny….. as….. fuck,” Eveline said while laughing her ass off. Keona pouted, her beautiful eyes staring at us, “Is anything wrong with a farm?” I hit Eveline’s leg so she would stop laughing, “No…. No, honey, nothing is wrong. We were just trying to picture you working on the farm with all the equipment and all.”“It was a pear farm,” Keona sounded so excited, “After that, Jace taught me how to ride a bike, we made dinn
Inaya’s POV “Was that someone Akira’s Mother?” I wanted to pretend like I didn’t see the padlock but I couldn’t. “Hmmmm,” Beckham nodded his head, his eyes still focused on the padlock. “Serena, was that her name?” I asked and Beckham’s eyes finally left the padlock and fell on me, “I just thought that it must have been you two,” I pointed at the padlock he was looking at. “Yeah…. Yes…. We…. Emmm…. We dropped that when we were like fifteen, sixteen years old,” Beckham said awkwardly and I nodded my head. I did a quick calculation in my head from that year till now. They must have known each other all their life. Damn, can I compete with the love he has or had for her? “Oh…. Wow… That’s like seventeen years ago,” I laughed awkwardly, “Is…. She like dead or….” “No…. No…. Divorce…. Just divorce,” Beckham answered with an awkward smile. I licked my lower lip, “Do…. Do you both still communicate?” “Yes, we do communicate about Akira from time to time,” Beckham answered, “Strictly
