Far below the plains and valley of the Old Earth, by the moving fogs and dense brown grove full of red mangroves though it appeared above the Ngwal Ocean water level is Caliba, a slightly small land surrounded by huge rocks held on by tiny yet fragile-looking ones. It is what some people call today the Stone Age.
The people of Caliba are gifted with the traits of fertility hatched on their DNA coupled with that they rarely feel the murderous pain childbearing entail. The source of this gift is yet to be revealed even to this day. As time passed by to the time of the great plague, many people died of the plague. All over their environs, there were houses and farms with no one to till the ground and live in them yet the Calibians flourished in population despite the death occurrence. Soon the news of their increase went across turns and villages like wide fire, it struck envy and unexplainable hate. T

A Century Later...A group of Archaeology students traveled North towards the plains surrounding the Ngwal Ocean in search of fossils and ancient artifacts. They made a camp to rest before they continued their expedition. The head of the group, Bona made for the heavily branched tall Baobab tree. He climbed and laid on one of the strong branches closing his eyes. His long lashes rested on his skin above his cheeks. Mari watched him her face expressionless but her eyes spoke otherwise. The sound of Sule clearing his throat to let out viscous yellowish sputum jerked her back to reality. She sighed and turned back to putting up her tent scrunching her face in disgust. She sometimes wished they were not in the same department then she wouldn't have to go through this torture of seeing him almost every day.Who would have thought that Bona had applied to the s
She doesn't know who was coming but she perceived what was coming. A big animal, she thought. She could not fully comprehend why her legs weren't moving. Get out of here! Her insides screamed but instead, she shouted "Sule?" Her voice echoed in the disturbing silence. She forcefully wiped her head around still there was no sign of Sule. Expecting to see a big animal ready to pounce on her but what she saw were scared barefoot of bushmen in an attire that seemed made from Camel skin. Then she saw other throngs of naked men whose private parts were the only ones covered. She knew she was in the middle of a stone age era. They were brandished with wooden bows and blabbed arrows moving towards her at increasing alacrity seizing her with their intense stares. She knew if she was to run now they would catch her in an instant. As soon as they held her hostage they gave a loud uproar that sent a loud bang i
The dawn passed and the day came in a blur. The women had taken her away from the darkroom into one of the huts at first light. They had adorned her with strange accessories she had never come across. The room was nothing like she had seen either."This was a living stone age," she thoughtThe bed was carved from the rocks, the tables and the stools were beautifully sculptured from the enormous rock that served as a shelter. If Sule had seen this, his eyes will certainly light up.She could smell the ruins in the air like a smoky fog had covered the village. One would have thought that it was the misty cloud as it often does during the harmattan. Her boots were removed and her legs were washed and painted with a white paste. They had drawn a mountain pattern on her legs. They moved on to her face, she fe
Days passed in a blur and the night descended quickly. Bona stared out from the window of Mari's hospital room, lost in thoughts trailed back from the past. He remembered how he had swore to protect her and be with her. Now, he could not put a name to their relationship."I wish, how I wish," he thought aloud though barely above a whisper. He was indeed surprised at how composed he had been when he laid eyes on her dressed in a white camel skin from their hiding place. She had stood out from the crowd despite her drugged-induced state."She always has" he murmured.Turning away from the window, he glanced at her. Her natural afro laid rigid against the pillow, her lashes of warm chocolate rested on her cheeks. Moving towards her, he noticed her parched lips part as she b
Spending half a day in the ocean was a choice on its own. This reminds me of the woman I once was before I knew the true colors of what people can do. Myriad colors filled with pride, envy, and hate. Their promination made me sell my soul for vengeance. They say vengeance is the Lord's but I couldn't wait for the long trimming, it was long. Longer than the length of a gun and I don't have that inner peace to wait despite the grief they caused. Selling my soul was nothing new it's just that it gave me all that I needed to accomplish my motives all for a prize I had to pay. To me, it was worth it. A prize to relieve me of the ache and to take some souls along. I savor this…I'm heartless. I know. If my brother didn't die maybe I won't be. I lived with my brother in a little house on the island of Madagascar. Our house is by the edge of the cliff, the house looked like a bird's nest fastened to the rock by gr
The first ray of sunlight had already found its way through one of the holes in the dried thatched raffia roof as it did regularly resting on the faint scar on his left nostrils down to his cheeks. I could see the waking sky as often as I did every morning but I chose not to stand up because sleep was still very much close to my eyes. The morning red-haired aves crowed twice in a row and my Mother hastily departed from the cooking yard to wake us up for our daily chores before my Father could leave for the forest to hunt some meats for us. It was always a normal day - it starts with chores and ends with moonlight stories. In between the day, we often get snacks, apart from the usual roasted yellow corn and a slice of spiced boiled meat we eat.I could remember that fateful day, my father had arrived early with an enormous antelope hanged across his shoulders. The joy on our faces knew no bonds for we knew
Zeneba ran as if her life depend on it. She had never seen her brother look so frightening. He was angered. She clenched firmly to the bowl of toys in her tiny hands as she glanced back to see him being pushed and beaten to the ground. She was almost turning back but Zaire's words "Run! Home!" prompted her to increase her pace and run swiftly to get help. Seeing the tiny white hairy petals of the aleye flower she had dropped on the ground as her brother had instructed her she knew she would soon get home as it was already getting dark. As she rounded a curve, she suddenly lost her footing. Crying out in fear, she struggled to balance anything to hold on to but her short hands grabbed nothing. Screaming she tumbled down a steep slope and landed unceremoniously amid a green grazing field filled with alarmed bleating sheep. She struggled to stand but she felt her eyes
Waking up, I just couldn't feel the ray of the sun (God's given sunlight) on my face like I used to. What I felt was pure yet strange coldness that my body felt numb. I could hardly feel my legs let alone my hands."I'm in my room, ain't I?"Any second now, the mother should wake me up. I tried going back to catch some sleep but the coldness of the floor sent shivers down my spine. My teeth danced in response. I don't know how long I waited and dawdle, no one came."Why Is she not coming? She must be very busy in the kitchen"My hands felt heavy, I could not lift it. The door finally opened, a large ray of sunlight flooded in. Basking the whole room in light. It was frightening as its effect caused my lids to fall shut immediately. After some time, my e
