Actually, I was fucking tired.

I was tired of the fights, the constant back and forth between Tara and me. It felt like a cycle I couldn’t escape, and no matter what I said or did, she always found a way to poke, to drag me into another battle I didn’t want to fight. But right now? With Ryans striding beside me, his jaw locked tight and his knuckles flexing like he wanted to punch something, I realized there wasn’t anything left for me to do than to let this next fight happen.

I could see that Ryans was already so furious. He was furious because of me. And that… that made me feel something I couldn’t deny.

If it had been Caleb I was dating and something like this has happened, he would’ve sighed, maybe offered me a hollow pat on the back, said something like, “Don’t mind her, Skylar,” and then gone back to whatever else mattered more which was either clubbing or hockey practice.

But Ryans? Ryans was storming right now like a thundercloud, ready to strike anyone who dared touch me.

The walk away from the hockey ground was strangely quiet. Ryans had removed his hand from mine after a while and both of them were shoved deep into his jacket pocket, his steps steady but a little too measured, like he was forcing his body to pretend nothing was wrong. The glow from the streetlights caught the faint trickle of blood running down his jaw, and no matter how much he tried to make it look like nothing, I noticed. Of course, I noticed.“You’re bleeding,” I said softly, my eyes narrowing on the corner of his mouth.“I’ve bled worse,” he muttered, wiping at it with the back of his hand like it was a smudge of dirt.“Which is not the point,” I snapped, quickening my pace until I cut in front of him, forcing him to stop. His brows shot up like he hadn’t expected me to block his way, but I folded my arms stubbornly. “You’re going to a pharmacy. End of discussion.”He gave me a look that hovered between exasperation and reluctant amusement. “Sky, it’s barely a scratch. You don’t

By the time I realized it, the sun was already sinking, bleeding into the horizon like someone spilled paint across the sky. I was lounging with the guys near the quad, half-listening to their banter about the upcoming hockey game. Laughter bounced around me, but my mind felt sluggish, weighed down by something I couldn’t name. Then suddenly, it hit me.Oh shit. I hadn’t called Skylar. Not once. Not even a text. Not even a reply to hers.“Shit,” I muttered under my breath, the word sharp enough to slice through the air.Ethan stopped mid-sentence. “What?”But I was already on my feet, brushing off the grass. “I gotta go,” I said, not even bothering to explain.Phones are supposed to be lifesavers, right? Mine felt like a curse as I pulled it out, thumb jabbing Skylar’s name. Once. Twice. Three times. The line rang and rang. No answer. My chest tightened.Where the hell was she?I checked her schedule in my head, retracing her classes. I jogged to the lecture hall she’d mentioned yeste

At noon, the cramps continued to be merciless and I was fucking sick and tired of it. By the time the professor was halfway through his lecture on international relations, I was chewing on my lower lip so hard I was sure it would bleed. My notebook lay open in front of me, but the lines blurred and danced together, the words refusing to settle into meaning. Every few seconds, a sharp twist of pain rippled through my stomach like someone was wringing my insides.“Damn it,” I muttered under my breath, clutching my pen so hard my knuckles whitened.“Sky, you okay?” Amy, a quiet girl in class, whispered from the seat beside me, her bushy brows pulled together in concern.I forced a smile and spoke without turning to her. “Yeah. Just… you know. Girl stuff.”Her expression softened with instant understanding, but the cramps didn’t care about sympathy. They only dug deeper, and I felt beads of sweat prickle along my hairline. I couldn’t sit there another minute pretending to focus while my

I woke up with the kind of pain that makes you think the universe has a personal vendetta against you. A sharp, twisting knot curled low in my stomach, dragging me out of sleep with a groan. At first, I thought it was just hunger gnawing at me—I’d barely touched dinner last night after all—but then another cramp rolled through, sharper this time, like someone was wringing my insides like a wet towel.“Ugh,” I muttered, clutching my stomach as I tried to sit up. The movement only made the blanket slip, and that’s when I saw it.Great. Perfect. Of course it was my period. The red stain mocked me like a punchline to a cruel joke. My cramps weren’t hunger pangs at all—they were nature’s way of announcing, surprise, you’re still a woman, congrats.I rolled my eyes at the ceiling and muttered, “Kill me now.”Dragging myself off the bed, I started rearranging the sheets, fumbling with my comforter and tugging at the corners like I could somehow erase the mess and the pain at the same time.“

“Hey.”“You… you’re back,” I breathed, my voice catching somewhere between disbelief and the weight of memories crashing back. Her smile tugged at the corner of her lips, cautious but warm, like she wasn’t sure she had the right to smile like that in front of me.She tilted her head slightly, eyes searching mine. “Yeah. I am.” There was a pause from her. Then, almost too casually, she added, “Want to go on a walk?”My first instinct was to refuse. Every fiber of my body wanted to stay glued to the safety of the court, to the sound of the ball echoing in my head, to the memory of Skylar’s laughter still clinging to the air. But then I looked at Jasmine—the familiar slope of her nose, the quiet determination in her eyes—and I heard myself mutter, “I… I guess.”Her smile widened, just a fraction, and she turned toward the gate. My legs followed before my brain had decided anything. We slipped out of the court, then out of the school environs after some minutes and into the cool Boston ev
