While there were many things about Vittoriathat unsettled Amora, one thing in particular stood out. The way she made it clear that Antonio belonged to her.

“Antonio is such a child,” Vittoria said. “He has a lot to learn. I’ll make you his personal assistant, and he won’t even question it. I know him. He doesn’t care for the women who have shared his bed, I’ve seen him with his secretaries before.”

If Vittoria was trying to provoke her or get a rise out of her, Amora didn’t know. But she wanted to believe that Vittoria didn’t know Antonio as well as she claimed.

“My husband lacks morals.” Vittoria added.

Amora tried to think, but Vittoria’s words were making it hard to focus. She couldn’t speak. Her throat was tight, as if it had closed up.

Just then, the door opened and an assistant walked in with a dress in her hands.

Vittoria shoved the dress at Amora. “Put this on. I won’t have my husband seeing you like this.” Amora turned to go, but Vittoria called her back. “Before you leave,”
