Ryker POV

Sitting in the bar, I watch as the guys celebrate the win, not just mine but Jaxon’s as well. We’ve seen the scores, they did amazing. Everyone else watched it on their phones and thought it was flawless.

It wasn’t. I saw the slight slip, the quick adjustment, and I know how close Jaxon came to dropping Erin. Sure, he didn’t, and I should go easy on him for it, but that doesn’t change the fact of what could have happened.

“You’re really not that fun tonight,” Quinn kicks me.

“I’m good,” I say as I grab the glass and drink the entire contents. I need to focus on me, not Erin.

“You know what I think?” Liam leans over my shoulder.

“That I’m going to knock you the fuck out if you don’t back up,” I snap.

“No, that you miss me and want to get back under the covers with me.” His smile is damn smug.

The entire team laughs. “I think he regretted it, actually,” Quinn chuckles.

“Yeah, what were his words? That’s it. ‘Worst night of my life, don’t let me go home drunk with him again.’ I think you failed to satisfy him.” Kai laughs, and Liam glares at me.

“In my defense, I was still drunk when I got home after we fucked.” My shoulders shrug.

“Home?” Liam glares at me.

Okay, I live with Erin and Jaxon, not the team.

“He may or may not have come back to the club to drown his sorrows.” Quinn howls with laughter, almost falling off his seat. I watch as Liam storms away.

“Thanks. Why do you do that with every guy I fuck?” I look between them.

“Not every guy, just the ones who hang around and beg for seconds when you hated firsts.”

Rubbing my face, I fight back the laugh and hear the whistles. Turning, I see Jaxon walking towards us. He’s still in the clothes he skated in, tight-as-fuck black trousers and a purple shirt that is open at the front to show his chest.

He didn’t even take Erin home, which I should be pissed about, but I can’t because he looks fucking hot. Turning, I look away from him, and Quinn smirks.

“Shut the fuck up,” I mutter, and he leans back.

“I’m just thinking, you two grew up together. I thought it would be you fucking him, not Erin.”

Yeah, well, he seems to be good at playing straight with my sister.

As soon as Jaxon reaches the table, I hook an arm around his shoulders and pull him down to sit beside me. He stumbles slightly, but I keep him steady, my grip still firm. His body is still warm from skating, and the faint scent of his cologne is mixed with the cold air from outside.

"Look who finally decided to show up," I say while squeezing his shoulder before releasing it.

Jaxon rolls his eyes, reaching for an empty glass on the table and inspecting it like he's debating if it's clean enough to use. "I had to make sure Erin got home first."

Liar. Total liar if he had gone home, he would have changed. "You mean you let her go home alone while you came out with us to celebrate your own greatness?" I smirk and nudge at his ribs with my elbow.

Huffing a laugh, Jaxon shrugs. "She told me to come, and said that I deserved to enjoy it."

"Well, you do, she's right," Kai cuts in. "That routine was insane. Everyone here watched it, I swear, it was flawless, man."

Jaxon grins, eating up the fucking compliment, but I can see the shift in his expression even if it's slight. He knows it wasn't flawless, he knows I saw it.

"Yeah, I guess it turned out to be alright in the end," he says, trying to keep it casual.

“Alright?” Quinn scoffs. “You wiped the floor with the competition. You and Erin are practically untouchable right now.”

"Unless Jaxon drops her on her head," I mutter into my drink but loud enough for him to hear.

His head snaps toward me, and his eyes narrow slightly. “You’re never gonna let that go, are you?”

Smirking, I lean into him, my shoulder pressing against his. "Not a fucking chance."

He doesn't move away, he doesn't even seem to notice how close we are. Instead he just shakes his head and tips the glass to his lips.

"You stress too much," he says between sips. "I had it under control."

I scoff and reach out, gripping his wrist before he can set the glass down. “You almost didn’t.” I turn his hand over, tracing the slight indent in his palm from where he must have clenched his fingers too tightly during the routine.

  • Slapshot Awakening   Having Enough

Ryker POVThe air is even colder outside now. I pull my jacket tighter and see Aiden already by his car. He doesn't get in. He watches as I step onto the sidewalk. His jaw is tight, and his fingers flex like he's thinking twice about this. He scans the street, making sure that no one can see us.I smirk, shaking my head. “Relax. No one cares.”Aiden huffs a breath, running a hand through his hair. “You don’t know that.”I do, but I don’t argue. Instead, I turn toward my bike and swing one leg over. “You coming, or what?”Aiden doesn’t answer, but after a beat, he gets into his car and pulls out, following me toward my place. Just like he always does.We stop at my place and I can see Jaxon's car is here, but Erin's isn't. No doubt she's at a friend's. Getting off the bike, I walk to the door and unlock it.Stepping inside Aiden follows me, I don’t bother with a tour, he knows the place well enough already. I walk through to my room, and he stays quiet as he does.He closes the door be

  • Slapshot Awakening   Company

Ryker POVThe coach’s whistle shrills through the air, signaling the end of the break. I push off the bench, skating back onto the ice, my mind finally locked into the game.Today has been tiring. The guys are sitting and drinking. It's not a heavy one, and we won't be late tonight. It's just to unwind a bit. We celebrated the win already, so now it's back to training and being careful of how far we go.The bar is still buzzing though, and the low thrum of music blends into the warmth of the alcohol that's settling in my chest.Kai and Quinn are still arguing about something. There's no guessing needed to know it will be something stupid. I stay sitting back, letting the noise wash over me.The feel of my phone buzzing has me shifting and pulling it out of my pocket. I expect Erin or Jaxon, but it's not. Instead, there, on the screen, is Aiden's name. I didn't expect that. I click it.Aiden: Are you out?Exhaling slowly, I stare at the message. I already know where this is going. On a

  • Slapshot Awakening   Training Session

Ryker POVI didn't wait around. Erin showed up, so there was no point in me being there. To be honest, I would rather not watch them make out all day, either. I'm also meant to be training, so it's another reason for why I left so suddenly. When I get to the rink, I go straight through and get ready. Stepping onto the ice, the cold sinks into my skin like always. The guys are already here, scattered across the ice, running drills and stretching. They are already warming up for practice. The sound of skates carving into ice fills the space. There's a steady rhythm of movement and the occasional clash of sticks against pucks. The difference between here and where I came from is immense. Rolling my shoulders, I can still feel the leftover tension from last night, not from the game but from watching Jaxon and Erin's routine. From watching that near slip and knowing how close it was.He and Erin just brushed it off like it meant nothing."About time Ry!" Quinn calls from the far end, flick

  • Slapshot Awakening   Different

Jaxon POVI instantly feel the familiar charge of energy as I dig my toe pick into the ice and launch. The air cuts around me as I rotate, my body is locked tight, and it's perfect, until I hit the landing. It's not as bad as I was expecting, there's a slight skid, a fraction of imbalance, and just like that, Ryker is there. His hands catch my waist, pulling me into him just enough to stop the skid before it can turn into a fall. His breath washes over the back of my neck.My pulse kicks up, my body tense as his fingers press firmly against my lower back. I fight back the groan from the pain it shoots through me.Exhaling, I pull away and turn to face him. "Seriously?"Ryker just smirks. "I told you. You're shit at landing when you're tired and hungover."Shaking my head I skate towards the boards, my muscles burning from the session, but it's not the jumps that have on edge. It's him. Every time that I wobbled, he was there, hands on my hips, my sides, my waist. He never hesitated, n

  • Slapshot Awakening   Training

Jaxon POVI wake with Erin wrapped around me. Slipping out of bed, I shower and get ready for the day. I need to train more, and usually, if I get there early enough, no one else is there. Usually, I have the place to myself between five thirty and six thirty; Erin shows up any time after that. Because of who we are, we can go before the rink opens to others. My back is still hurting from yesterday, but I push it to the back of my mind. The easiest way to get over it is to work it. At least that's always worked for me.Getting inside, I sit and take off my shoes before putting my skates on. Stepping onto the ice, I stop. Why the hell is Ryker here? He's leaning against the boards, smirking.I'm too fucking hung over right now to deal with this. Exhaling sharply, I rub a hand down my face and step onto the ice fully. The cool air should help wake me up and clear my head.At least I think that, but Ryker smirks at me from the boards and I know my morning is going to be ten times more an

  • Slapshot Awakening   Pushing

Ryker POVJaxon looks down at where my thumb brushes against his skin but doesn’t pull away. “Yeah, but guess what? I still landed it,” he mutters, smirking slightly.Quinn whistles. "Damn, Ry. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that you're flirting with him."Jaxon snorts. “Ryker? Flirting with me? Yeah, okay.”Yeah, he's in his own fucking world. Everyone but him and Erin know.Laughing, Kai leans back in his seat. "I don't know, man. He's got his hands all over you."Grinning I keep my hold on Jaxon's wrist a second longer before finally letting go. "What? Can't a guy appreciate his best friend's hands?" These things are vital to my entertainment. If you don't Erin, who else am I gonna make fun of?"Jaxon rolls his eyes but still doesn’t move away. “You’re an idiot.”“That's not new news Jax, and it doesn't change the fact that you still love me.”Jaxon exhales a laugh, shaking his head. “Yeah, yeah, don’t get all emotional on me.”I press my knee against his under the table, it'

  • Slapshot Awakening   A Win

Jaxon POVThe applause continues and I finally release Erin's hand, but I can still feel the pressure of her grip lingering on my skin. We glide toward the center of the rink. Our breathing is still uneaven, but keep our movements graceful and poised. No one in the crowd needs to know how close that was. Actually, no one needs to know that for a second, I thought I might lose control and spiral.I say that, but Ryker does, he's watched us enough he would have spotted the change.Erin straightens her costume, smoothing out an imaginary wrinkle as we take out final bow. The energy in the arena is electric, and the cheers crash around us like waves. I look toward the stands, and I know where to focus.Ryker is there, standing near the edge of the seating section. His arms are crossed tightly over his chest, he doesn't clap, he doesn't even move. Instead, he stares, his expression is hard and unreadable, I don't need to guess at what he's thinking about. I already know.I just gave him ev

  • Slapshot Awakening   A Good Show

Jaxon POVErin smiles at me, her hand slipping into mine. "Don't let Ryker get in your head. We're fine. We've done the move a lot; not once has it gone wrong." She reaches up and kisses me."Your hair," I whisper, capturing it in my hand. The black strands wrap around my fingers, and I tug gently."I forgot," she grabs a bobble and brush and begins to put it up. She doesn't look nervous at all, yet here I am, panicking that I'm going to drop her. It's weird that people think the women should be more scared; she's the one at risk of being dropped. The one at risk of being seriously hurt. That's true, but we are the ones doing the lifting. We're just as scared as we hold their future in our hands. One wrong move, one mistimed step, and I could destroy her life. She comes to stand back beside me, her black hair now tied up in a bun. Her blue eyes meet mine, and she squeezes my hand a final time.I hear the announcer call out names, and Erin squeezes my hand once more like she's reassuri
