Daisy's POV
Two Days Later
As I approached the school gates today, I felt a wave of anxiety wash over me. My heart raced like a runaway train, each beat echoing my trepidation. Trust me, I would have preferred to stay at home. An idea suddenly flickered in my mind, staying home might be the best way to avoid being killed, but then again, I wouldn’t graduate.
"So it’s a choice between graduating dead or not graduating alive," I mused to myself. There were no two ways about it.
Today, I dressed like a boy, wearing baggy clothes and a cap pulled low over my eyes, anything to avoid attention. As I walked to the front of the lecture hall, I hesitated. The thought of stepping inside made me queasy. Just then, a lecturer approached where I stood.
"Come in," he beckoned, noticing my hesitation. I stood frozen, but his smile was reassuring. "As long as I'm the one lecturing, you have nothing to worry about," he added, and I took a deep breath before following him inside.
Once in the lecture room, I deliberately avoided making eye contact with anyone. My mind raced with worry, but when the lecture began, I was surprised to find that no one paid me any mind, who could this lecturer be, I thought. It was as though the atmosphere shifted because his presence resulted in a serious place where learning took precedence. I pulled out my notebook and took notes, determined to absorb every word.
For the past two days, while stuck in bed nursing my pain inflicted by the brat, I had spent my time figuring out how to operate the gadgets I had been given. Slowly but surely, I was improving. Understanding them was like unlocking a secret world.
As soon as the lecture ended, I knew I had to follow the lecturer out the same door I had entered. I decided to roam the school until 1 PM, when I planned to seek out the guy that requested my attention. My stomach grumbled, but I ignored it. I had eating something at home, but the food was gone in me, and the mysterious emptiness in my belly annoyed me.
Long before 1 PM, I began searching for the building he had mentioned. I thought about asking other students for help, but each one I passed shot me a look of pure disgust. Their stares felt like daggers piercing my skin, I couldn't bring myself to approach them.
Finally, I located the SPA Hall, and I couldn’t help but stand in awe. The structure was unique, with colors that seemed to dance in the sunlight, exuding a sense of warmth and welcome.
"You must be wondering what 'SPA' means, since it isn't written anywhere," someone exclaimed from behind me. I jumped, startled.
"Sorry for surprising you," he continued, and my surprise morphed into curiosity. Was he talking to someone else? I glanced around but realized we were the only two people nearby.
"Not everyone treats slaves like trash," he mentioned, as if he could read my mind. I felt a mixture of surprise and relief wash over me. I decided to take a chance and respond.
“What does it mean, since it isn’t written anywhere?” I asked.
"Mr. Andrew, a close partner to the president, built the hall and named it SPA. When they asked him for its meaning to be put there, he’d always reply, 'Not every mystery can be demystified,'" he explained.
"Wow! Thank you," I said, genuine appreciation bubbling up inside me. This was the first time I felt something resembling happiness since moving to the city. First time I was giving attention.
"You’re welcome," he replied, giving me a nod before walking away.
Once inside the building, I opted to take the staircase to the rooftop. Climbing the stairs, I felt an exhilarating mix of anticipation and fear. As I reached the rooftop through the stairs, I was uncertain about how to use the lift so Ignored using it. I found myself staring at the back of a man, who was gazing out at the world.
His silhouette was striking, and I took a moment to sketch it in my mind's eye.
"You are finally here," he uttered, turning to face me.
"I don’t know you," I said almost immediately.
"I'm Liam. I will protect you Daisy, If you be my girlfriend?" he asked, catching me off guard.
I was taken aback; was he serious? This was just too much for me to handle.
“Take your time to think about it carefully,” he added, brushing past me and walking toward the lift.
“Thanks for helping me the other time,” I managed to say, still recovering from his bold proposal.
“Don’t mention it,” he replied as he moved toward the lift. “I saw you took the stairs up. Come on, let’s take the lift down together.”
I nodded, too stunned to argue. Inside the elevator, I suppressed a nervous urge to look at him. He stood too close, his presence overwhelming me. Suddenly, he leaned in, placing his hands on either side of me, and locked his gaze onto mine, making me hold my breath. Just as abruptly, he stepped back when the elevator doors opened.
We exited, and he walked away as I stood there, feeling utterly confused, wandering with no particular direction in mind.
“I saw you walking out with Liam,” a voice suddenly chimed in. I turned to see Ruby, my classmate, approaching.
I didn’t hate you, even though you are a slave, but still I can't help you in class. “But you see that guy, Liam? He could be bad news, though I’m not sure. He’s Sarah’s older brother,” she said, her tone filled with concern.
This revelation hit me like a ton of bricks. Sarah was my bully. The thought of Liam being her older brother made my insides churn.
“What the heck?” I managed to say, my shock palpable as Ruby walked away. Could I really be the girlfriend of Sarah’s brother? Did he punish Sarah for everything she put me through? And most importantly, could he protect me from the impending punishment I have to face at the hands of Drake?
My mind was racing, swirling with questions and doubts. I decided to take a stroll around the school to clear my head, eventually finding myself near a gate. Curiosity piqued, I stepped inside and was met with a beautiful garden filled with vibrant flowers of every color.
But my small moment of peace was shattered when I spotted Sarah and her friends lounging in the garden.
“Come here,” she signaled as soon as she sighted me, and I felt a pit form in my stomach as I reluctantly walked toward her.
“Take the rag on the floor and clean my shoe,” she commanded, a smirk spread wide across her face.
As I bent down to comply, a voice from behind interrupted us. “Sir Drake, do you want me to cancel the deal of the forty million dollars?”
I could feel the tension in the air as Drake glanced from me to Sarah, his expression unreadable.
“What part of my statement didn’t you understand when I said I would deal with her at the carnival?” he snapped, and I quickly stood, my heart pounding in my chest.
“Get out,” he said curtly.
“He means everyone,” the man with him chimed in.
"Drake, I want to see you," Sarah said, her voice firm as she approached him.
"I'm busy. You all should leave," he replied, his tone dismissive.
As we are leaving. “Not you!” Drake added, signaling to me. I paused, frozen in place, facing him slowly but surely, heart racing as I awaited whatever was about to unfold.
I could feel Sarah's dagger-like eyes on me as she left.
"I also find myself harboring feelings for you," he admitted, and a wide smile spread across my face before I could stop it. "But I wasn't accepting it... obviously, you know why," he added. "Yeah... We’re from two different worlds, and I’m just a slave," I said, though joy bloomed fiercely inside me, knowing that Drake had feelings for me too. I had suspected it, he and Ruby were the only ones who treated me like a human, not a slave. And from someone of his status, it had always felt strange and suspecting... yet wonderful. "But..." "But you can't settle for me because I'm a slave. I understand. One thing is having feelings for a slave, but another is settling for one as a lover or mate, considering the public, your family, your reputation, and your pack. Even you wouldn't be able to get what you want. I understand. I've resigned myself to this cruel fate, and I wish you well in your current or future relationships," I declared, cutting him off as my emotions shifted from sadne
“Let’s take a walk,”“But the night could be dangerous,” I replied, hesitation in my voice. I didn’t trust the wasteland, and I rarely ventured out at night."Don't be afraid. No one will hurt us; I am more dangerous," he declared as we left the living room together. We started walking down the untiled street.Drake’s POVI chose to take a walk with this lady and see the Whitewater Pack environment. And true to everything I had heard about it, it matched exactly."Daisy, how would you feel if you had everything you wanted?" I asked.Daisy’s POVWhat does he mean by that question? Does he know that he is among the things I want, someone I wish to be with for the rest of my life, apart from the fact that I desire the best life for my surviving parent, my mother."I would be the happiest person in the world," I declared."And what if you couldn't have everything you wanted?" he asked."I would have to deal with the fact that you can't always get everything you desire, and some things are
"What are you even thinking about?" she asked, curiosity flickering in her eyes."What do you think I'm thinking about?" I countered."Probably about your girlfriend," she muttered under her breath, her voice so soft it was almost a whisper she hadn't meant for me to catch."What did you just say?" I pressed."Nothing," she replied quickly, avoiding my gaze."I heard you," I said. "Probably about my girlfriend."She looked startled, her eyes widening slightly."And what exactly do you want to use my girlfriend for?" I added, leaning in with a mischievous glint in my eye."Nothing. I mean, I don't care about her. I'm not using her for anything," she rushed out, her words tumbling over each other, and I smiled inwardly."Whatever," I replied casually, and at that moment, her mother walked in, now looking more like an older version of Daisy. She was very beautiful, though Daisy surpassed her in beauty level.Their features clicked perfectly, and no one would ever mistake her for someone
"Drop your gun and tell Mr. Clinton to come down now," Drake instructed, his voice cold and commanding. "At my far left, there’s a sniper waiting to eliminate him from his location, and my head guard does not miss a target." He concluded, his gaze unwavering as I watched the man, known as the richest in the area, step out of the car."Drake, the president’s son," the man exclaimed, shocked, as his guards immediately dropped their weapons upon hearing the revelation."Show respect, slave," Drake declared, his voice laced with disdain."It is an honor to meet you, Sir. To what do I owe this huge visit?" he asked, his tone suddenly respectful, although he hadn’t looked in my direction until now. "Can we go inside so that I can welcome you properly?" he suggested, gesturing toward his house."You expect me to enter this lowly house? You disgust me," Drake responded, his voice dripping with contempt. I had long since forgotten this extreme side of him. He sounded like someone who wouldn't
"Okay. I will love to protect your ego as a man," I declared, chuckling. "In fact, you should never even smell the position of an Alpha if you fall sick. And if you're already in that position and fall sick, you should defeat it," I added playfully."You are always a rascal," he said, and I laughed.Drake POVAs I stared at her laughing, I was forced to look away for reasons best known to me.An inner struggle currently existed within me.Daisy POV"We set out for the journey later today," he declared. Judging from the last time I checked the clock, it should be around 12 AM by now. Hours had already passed."Yes, Alpha," I said, making a playful jest.Time passed, and eventually, morning arrived at last. I barely got any sleep, busy preparing for my visit to my mother. I had ordered a lot of groceries and other useful items for her. They had been delivered as expected. Throughout this time, since Drake and I returned, he had remained in his room.I was already dressed and sitting in
I guessed this was it, the moment of my death, and it further confirmed what Joe had said earlier about gambling his life."Drake..." she called out."Shhh," he murmured. "Don't interfere," he added firmly."I will brace myself for death. I’ll take it with courage, sir. I truly enjoyed serving you... I'm sorry for not thinking before moving in. I was so worried with her safety that I didn't realize I might be aiding her death instead," I confessed, bowing my head as silent took over."I know," he said quietly, and I lifted my gaze to meet his. Relief filled me knowing he understood my intentions."I can read your mind clearly and your emotions," he added, making me wonder if that meant he would spare me. Not that it mattered anymore; I accepted whatever fate awaited me."There is punishment for your mistake," Sir Drake stated, still pointing the gun at me. "So that next time, when you want to protect something, you'll think before you act," he added coldly."Joe, take over," he comma
We drove past a lone Jeep heading in the opposite direction along the empty road.Suspicion prickled at the back of my mind, but I shook it off, focusing instead on reaching the target, which had stopped moving at a specific location.Alpha Alfie POV“I think that was Drake’s car that just passed us,” my PA remarked, peering back through the side mirror.“How are you so sure?” I asked, narrowing my eyes.“The plate number confirmed for me,” he replied confidently.“That was a good escape,” I thought to myself.“I can't bear for Drake to see my role in this killing her especially if he truly loves her. If he ever finds out, he will hate me beyond redemption.”Joe's POVAs soon as we arrived, I spotted our men stationed a safe distance away from the warehouse.“Where is Lucas?” I asked sharply, directing my question toward Drake’s guards, not the temporary hired ones.“He went inside to check the situation,” one of them responded.“And he couldn’t even call to inform us that he had arri
“Sir, Daisy has been kidnapped,” I said, my voice low but clear.Silence he remained.I glanced back, expecting a reaction but chose instead to keep my eyes on the road. The tension behind me was palpable."So, you found out that it's Alpha Alfie your friend is working for" Sir Drake declared finally."Yes, sir," I confirmed."He will stop at nothing to see Daisy dead," Drake muttered. "I sensed it in every word, every look he gave me. He’s convinced something dangerous is about to happen to me because of Daisy—and he’ll do anything to stop it. He worships the law of this land like a god, and that makes him even more dangerous."Jeo's POV“Sir, what are we going to do now?” I asked, glancing at him through the rearview mirror.“Alpha Alfie has managed to corner me using his own trump card,” he replied with a cold edge. “But I anticipated this move the moment an assassination attempt was made on Daisy.”He paused briefly, then added, “I placed a tracker on every piece of clothing suppl
I remained silent, watching it unfold.Flashback“Those rascals may try to sabotage everything if I win. But I have the perfect countermeasure,” I stated firmly during a private discussion with my headguard.“If I may ask, sir, what is it?” he inquired curiously.“After thinking it through carefully, I realized something important. Daisy never killed the assassin on our country’s land, water, or air. The assassination took place in international waters. That means we can’t use our national laws to judge her,” I explained.“But couldn’t they argue that since it happened in international airspace and she’s from this land, our laws should apply?” Jeo asked, a note of concern in his voice.“No. She’s not a citizen, she’s a slave. Regardless of that, international law is what should govern the matter. And under that law, she cannot be punished for acting in self-defense. Even the time zone in which it happened isn’t aligned with ours,” I concluded calmly.Flashback ends“Are you trying to
