Chapter 2

Amber’s POV

The day soon ended and a new day arrived pretty fast. It seems as though time wasn’t on anybody's side because it ended just as quickly as it started.

I waited for my mother to come out of her chamber since we both had plans of snacking together this evening.

“I’m sorry I’m late.” I heard my mother apologising while still walking down the hallway leading to my chambers, and I only smiled. She has a big reputation for being late to every damn thing, so this wasn’t new.

We both sat and soon got to talking as we had our snacks. It was the best time ever and it was moments like this that I always prayed never end.

I love my parents equally and the love they both showered me with was exceptional.

“Are you serious?” I giggled as I almost choked on my fruit, “there’s no way!” I added, laughing to an extent my ribs soon started hurting.

My mother had said something unbelievably funny and there was no way anyone wouldn’t laugh at that.

“Ask your father if you think I’m lying about it.” She also laughed as she handed me a glass of water that I took from her.

“I really can’t wait to become the Luna of shade’s pack, can you believe it?” I started after a while of silence and my mother only laughed proudly, “The second most powerful pack in the history of werewolves.” I added proudly.

“Well, next time you wouldn’t say it like that, we’re about to be the first because the nightwalker’s pack is about to be dethroned from that spot.” My mother answered, implying the discussion I’d heard from her and my father.

“I know, it’s just so unbelievable that I’ll be getting mated soon.” I added and she laughed once again.

“Why is that unbelievable?” My mother asked as she shoved one of the chopped pineapples in her mouth and I only sighed.

“Because well, I have heard a lot of gossips and rumours, even among the maids and guards here in the palace, and some even said I would never find a mate.” I answered and my mother let out a roaring laughter.

It wasn’t really funny considering the fact that I had also thought I was going to die without a mate but thankfully, my father found Ethan and he has shown me more love than I could ever imagine.

“What is Ethan then? A potato?” My mother asked rhetorically and we both burst out laughing.

“Look, Princess,” my mother started and I just knew that whatever she was going to say next would make my heart flutter. She’s fond of saying things that make me blush.

‘If I don’t make you feel like the special princess that you are, then who will?’ That’s one of my mother's famous sentences that she usually say to me as I grew up.

“I am just so really glad and happy that you’re going to end up with a man that loves you wholeheartedly. It’s a sight to see and as your mother, I am really proud of you.” She added and I didn’t know I was crying until the tears trickled down my eye.

“Don’t do this.” I sniffed as my mother lifted her hand to dry my dampened face.

“You make me feel so special.” I added and she laughed.

“If I don’t make you feel special then who will?”

“If you don’t make me feel special then who will?”

We both said in unison as we laughed at each other, I already knew that was what she would reply to me with.

Our discussion went on for a while as I talked about how I wanted the ceremony to be when suddenly the door flung open, causing the both of us to jump in fear.

My father barged in and he was holding the twin girls roughly in his grasp, my mother and I sprung up at once since we’ve never seen the Alpha of the moonlight pack this dishevelled before.

He was trembling to his bones and sweat was dripping off him profusely.

“What’s going on?” My mother demanded worriedly as we both sprang to our feet, her fear and worry evident in her voice as she spoke and I could feel my heart beating so fast that I could hear it.

“Stay here and no matter what you hear out there, neither of you must come outside.” My father said as he pushed the twin girls into our grasp.

“What the hell is going on out there?!” My mother yelled and my father knew he wouldn’t go out and she also wouldn’t listen to him until he told her what was really going on out there.

“Their brother– the leader of the nightwalker pack is here for them. He’s here to rescue them.” He answered and my eyes widened as my stomach churned.

There’s no way.

I turned to look at my mother and she also had the same expression on her face. It was obvious that she had thought that the alpha King was going to be too scared to come here directly, knowing father could go ahead with his threat and behest the twins.

I had thought of that as well.

“So, stay here and hide. Make sure they don’t make a sound.” He finished as he turned to leave us alone in the room.

I never expected that the Alpha King of the Nightwalker pack would come storming into our pack. I took another glance at the twins and scowled at them, although they’ve done nothing to me.

I pulled them forcefully along with me, deeper into the bedroom, while ignoring their loud cries.

Loud, annoying children. I thought to myself in annoyance. They’re the reason my peaceful evening is ruined.

I wasted no time in tying them up and gagging them with some of my clothes, while feeling annoyed because they were going to get slobber over my luxurious clothes.

They wouldn’t be able to make any sound that way.

I wonder how their brother had reacted to them getting abducted.

I’ve only caught a few glimps of him before, and frankly, I hated him, because everyone else does. My father hated him so much and that was reason enough for me to hate him.

An enemy of my father is also my enemy.

I smiled proudly as I finished tying them up and I went back to my mother as she pulled me in for a hug and stroked my hair lightly.

With each time that passes by, an agonizing pain of having to wait in suspense also follows. My mother and I couldn’t tear our eyes away from the door even if we tried, we always ended up looking back at it.

I silently prayed that my father would return safely and it was as though my eyes had been glued to the door because no matter how hard I tried to look away, I couldn’t.

My body went cold and I soon started feeling like something bad was about to happen. I looked at my mother with tears welling up in my eyes and she could sense my fear as she took my hand in hers.

“Your father is safe and we’re all going to be Okay.” She tried to assure me but I knew that even she doesn’t believe that.

How are we going to be okay when the one who’s supposed to be protecting us is fighting off one of the most dangerous Alphas in the history of Alphas and Lucans combined together.

The fact that he’s half werewolf and Lycan made him extremely superior over ordinary werewolves, that was exactly why other packs hated and were jealous of the nightwalker pack.

Everyone in the nightwalker pack were half werewolves and half lycans, and because they didn’t want anyone from other packs to share in that luxury, they refused to mate with people outside their packs.

Their greedy and dangerous King probably warned them all against it.

I paced around the room silently, praying to the moon goddess for my father’s safety and his safe return back to us. I couldn’t help but think about Ethan too, he must also have been involved in this.

I prayed that nothing bad happens to him because I also didn’t want to lose my chance of becoming Luna but asides that, I loved him too.

My nervousness grew when everywhere went silent and nothing could be heard. Not even the leaves outside quivered, the silence that prevailed was so ear piercing that the only thing that could be heard was the faint breathing of everyone in the room.

What is going on?

My chest hurts and my heart aches, and then a fleeting moment later, I began to hear footsteps approaching.

I squeezed my eyes shut and started praying again, hoping it would either be my father or Ethan but all my hopes are dashed when the strong, solid door got kicked down in anger, causing me to bury my face on my mothers chest in fear as a scream tore out of my throat.

I knew it couldn’t possibly be my father or Ethan because neither of them would kick the door down like that when they could’ve easily opened it, and they definitely couldn’t kick the door down with a single kick.

And true to what I thought, it was neither of them. Instead, it was him, the Alpha King of the nightwalker pack.

My entire body trembled in fear.

He was extremely huge and his pheromones were strong as they pemated the air, making me feel the strong urge to fall down to my knees in surrender.

But I fought against the pull.

“Where are they?!” He roared, his thunderous voice causing a quake in the walls and it wasn’t until I heard gurgles and choked sounds, did I notice that he was holding my father by his throat, completely elevating him off the ground.

Chills went down my spine and the room fell as silent as a graveyard as all I could do was stand and watch in terror.

What is going to happen to all of us now?
