Chapter 1

Amber’s POV

I couldn’t contain the joy in my heart as I stared at the beautiful gifts that came from my father. It wasn’t the first time he would get me what I wanted and this just exceeded my expectations.

I sprung out of bed as I made my way out to my father, I bumped into one of the servants and there was nothing that annoyed me more than when this happens.

“Watch where you’re going, you bloody serf!” I yelled and I watched the fear on the maid’s face intensity. It would be pretty stupid for one to not be scared of the princess since their fate obviously laid in my hands.

“I’m sorry.” She apologised profusely, bowing down in respect but I ignored her as I walked past her and made my way to my parent’s chamber.

“Father!” I called in excitement as I threw myself at him in a hug. He looked busy but I loved the fact that he was ready to let go of what he was doing to attend to me anytime.

“And the Princess ignores me.” My mother passed a subtle comment that made all of us let out a slight laugh.

I’d gone to hug her too before turning back to meet my father, I really needed to see him for a pressing issue and I couldn’t wait for it to be addressed as soon as possible.

“Princess,” he called, planting a kiss on my forehead, “What do you think about your gifts?” He asked and I smiled. That was the exact reason I’d come to see him.

“I like all of it except for this one.” I answered, bringing out the beautiful jade necklace I had with me and father’s jaw dropped, “I asked for Sapphire.” I added and he let out a sigh.

“I know you asked for Sapphire and I thought that was exactly what the guards packed.” He answered but I only rolled my eyes as I wrapped my arms against my chest.

“I don’t want it.” I hissed, throwing it on the ground and just then my father ordered that all the servants should get to the chamber.

He asked for the one who picked out the Jade necklace and I watched as he got punished for his stupid mistake.

“I’m sorry, we’ll make sure to get you the Sapphire necklace.” My mother apologised and I only let out a frustrated groan.

I really wanted the necklace that bad.

I laid down an order, I wanted Sapphire and they got Jade.

I hissed when my father dismissed them and I sat beside him to tell my parents about my day. I was about to start talking when one of the servants announced that I had a message sent over to me.

“Why not go check what it is, we’re still here and neither of us will be going anywhere.” My mother said and I hesitated for a while.

Whatever message I had waiting for me can wait but what I wanted to tell my parents shouldn’t, because it’s been days since I last saw them.

With the mating preparations going on and everything, I barely get the chance to see or even talk to my parents and this chance was one I didn’t want to miss.

My father had asked me to go check what it was before telling him about my concern and after a little bit of hesitation, I finally stood up to check.

With the gifts laid down in front of me, I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me that the gifts were from Alpha Ethan, my soon to be mate and Alpha. I smiled when I saw the Sapphire necklace I badly wanted.

This is the third gift that day, he always managed to know what I wanted and he didn't waste a minute getting it for me. I smiled as I took another look at all the luxurious gifts sent to me.

I am going to be the future Luna of Alpha Ethan of Shades pack, the second most powerful pack in the lands. I couldn’t wait to be his Luna and with each day that passes by, I feel excited that the mating ceremony also draws closer.

Although, it was an arranged marriage and my father had arranged it because of the huge respect and glory merging our packs with the second biggest powerful pack ever heard of will bring us.

Alpha Ethan and I thankfully hit it off immediately and fell in love despite the main reason for our union and we couldn’t wait to be with each other.

The gifts are just indicators of how big his love for me is.

“From your soon to be husband, I guess?” My mother’s voice jolted me out of my thoughts and I snapped out of my day dream at once.

“How nosy can you be, mother?” I asked, ignoring her question and I could feel my cheek burn from blushing so hard.

“I know that feeling.” She started and I knew what was going to follow that would be the story of how she met my father and how he would also shower her with lots of beautiful gifts.

“Where’s dad?” I asked, looking around for my father since I had no idea when he left the house, I’d thought he would still be inside.

“Preparing for an important mission and he won't be back till probably tomorrow nighttime.” She explained and I sighed.

Just when I’d thought we were going to finally get to spend time together as families, my dad had to go for one of his missions?

“Can’t it be postponed? I was really looking forward to spending a lot of time with you guys today, cause that way, we’d also be able to talk about Ethan and how I am going to be the future Luna of Shades pack.” I started, my face falling as I laid my back into the chair to rest.

“I know but that can wait till when he’s probably back.” My mother consoled me and I tried to understand and see things differently. Being an Alpha Leader of a pack came with a lot of responsibilities, one my father is taking care of the pack as a leader should.

“What’s going on?” My father asked, coming out of his chambers all dressed up and he was also with his trusted men.

“Do you have to go?” I asked and he pulled me closer to him as I placed my head on his chest.

“Yes, I have to but I will be back as soon as possible.” He assured and after bidding it goodbye and with him planting a kiss on mother’s lips, he soon took off.

The day went by quicker than I’d expected. I had waited for father till late in the night till when I couldn’t anymore and had just retired to bed when I heard his voice.

I ran out of my room with an unmatched emergency and there my father was, he was with his men, all looking roughened up– but he also had a pair of identical looking twin girls with him who were sobbing profusely and looking not a day past seven years old, and it wasn’t until mother asked about where he’d seen them did I get to know he’d kidnapped them from the most powerful pack in werewolf land.

My heartbeat accelerated at his response.

“They’re from the nightwalker pack. The little sisters of the alpha King.” He spat out in distaste and my heart skipped a beats. No one on the werewolf land would dare stand up to the Nightwalker pack or go against them, because of how insanely powerful they were.

They also had a higher hand compared to other packs because they were all half lycan, and extremely populated compared to other packs.

Father hadn’t only dared the Nightwalker pack, he’d kidnapped the little girls from the pack’s King.

I knew how bad he wanted to overthrow the leader of the nightwalker pack and take over his pack but I had no idea he was going to start working towards it this soon. I knew he’d been planning this for many years but taking a step as drastic as this one will only mean doom if his plan fails.

The only reason I was getting married to Alpha Ethan was because Alpha Ethan was in on this plan as well. He and father had been working on this and they’ve been planning it for a few years.

He was going to use Ethan’s help to overthrow the King of the nightwalker’s pack and together, they were going to take over the most powerful pack in the werewolf land and become impossibly powerful that way.

I couldn’t help but think about what he might’ve told Ethan for him to agree to doing something as dangerous as this but I knew one thing for sure, both men had the same thirst for power and they were both ambitious as fuck, so it was easy for them to form an alliance.

I stayed behind to listen to their conversation, thankfully I hadn’t made any sound and they wouldn’t know if I was listening in on their conversation or not.

I knew it was rude to do that since my parents usually scold me for eavesdropping but at this point, I didn’t care. I wanted to know what they planned on doing to the twin girls.

“What do we do with them?” My mother asked as she stared at the twin girls from their head down to their toes with her lips curled in irritatio like they were some kind of taboo.

Technically, they were a taboo, for being half Lycans.

“Nothing much, I had plans of killing them but decided against it since we’re going according to plan,” my father explained and I pursed my lips.

I love my father, he’s the best I could ever ask for and I’d never trade him for anything, but sometimes I wish he wouldn’t get involved with some certain things. His thirst for power is a whole lot and I didn’t want that to place him in a line of immense danger.

Because frankly, he would do anything to attain any power he desired.

“Okay then what do you plan on doing with them?” My mother asked and the room was silent for a while.  

“I have already sent words to the Nightwalker pack and I have requested for a huge ransom from their Alpha King, unless I’m going to have them beheaded.” He explained.

“Will that do anything? I mean, asking for a ransom is something any typical kidnapper would do, so what is so special about that?” My mother asked, “Besides, how are you so sure that he’s going to listen to you? He might not even care about the kids.” She added, referring to the twin girls.

“That’s the first step we will need to take if we want to dethrone him and trust me, he cares about every one in his pack.” He said in a sure tone and my mother only huffed.

Their business is none of my business anyways, if they’re going to be overthrowing anyone then I will have no part in it. All I wanted is to be Ethan’s Luna and to keep being showered in expensive gifts.

Paying no heed to them, I turned as quietly as I’d gotten there and I made my way back to my room to take care of the gifts I got from Ethan.

I also had some businesses I needed to tend to.
