Chapter 6 "The Man I Hate"

It’s been two weeks since I started working as Lanceil’s maid.

However, my mission to seduce him did not advance because he was busy with work.

At home, he would lock himself in his office and warn me not to go inside.

“It is impossible to terminate the slave contract if this continues.”

I need to make the extra effort.

Tonight, he will come back after his long business trip.

I will cook his favorite foods for dinner and gain points. Therefore, when I finished cleaning, I left the condominium to buy ingredients at the Supermarket.

‘Let’s not lose hope. I still have many days le…’

“Psst~”

I lifted my head and looked at the man who called me in an ungentle manner.

‘What is he doing here?!’

My eyes widened at Adam Hendrix! The owner of the loan shark company and the man who sold me to Brett!

That bastard gave me an excessively cheerful smile far from his usual expression as he leaned on a streetlamp post, and then he raised his hand mid-air, waving enthusiastically.

"Hello~"

‘Why did he appear here outside Mr. Lanceil’s condominium?!’

Scared that Lanceil would see him, I sped toward his direction and then pulled him somewhere far from the condominium.

We ended up at the convenience store on the 4th block.

"This is refreshing," he grunted while licking his kiwi-flavored ice cream.

I don’t get it.

Why do I need to hang out with this guy and eat ice cream with him in the convenience store?!

“As far as I can remember, we’re not close enough to eat ice cream together,” I told him.

He finished his ice cream and looked at me.

“I just wanted to treat you as a goodbye,” he said. “We parted after Brett bought you. But I don’t remember saying goodbye. After all, you were my dear client.”

The person who sold me as a slave wanted to say a proper goodbye?

It is like telling me that the sun will rise from the West.

“Look, Mister. You and I don’t share any good memories together. So, I don’t need this.”

I placed the ice cream in his hand.

“I will appreciate it if you never appear outside the condominium again.”

Mr. Adam displayed a look of displeasure before he spoke. “Anyway, if you need money, I am just one call away.”

‘As if I am going to loan again from the devil.’

Mr. Adam stood up and was about to go. I had no reason to stop him; my hands automatically grabbed his arms and pulled him closer.

With my pounding heart, I hid behind his broad back.

‘I saw it. I really saw him!’

It was too fast, but I am sure I saw my college friend, Sebastian. He went inside the convenience store with a pal.

“What are you doing?” Mr. Adam asked me.

Yes. What am I doing?

Why am I hiding from my friend?

Deep inside, I knew the answer. ‘I am not ready yet.’

After all that happened in my family, career, and relationship, I don’t think I am ready to meet someone who played a big part in my life.

Without knowing how desperate I was to hide, I gripped Mr. Adam’s arm and pulled him away. Hopefully, we can reach the exit before Sebastian would rec…

“Excuse me.”

Mr. Adam and I stopped walking when Sebastian called us from behind.

“You dropped your ice cream. It’s not even opened yet,” Sebastian said.

Ice cream?

Oh yeah. Mr. Adam was holding the unopened ice cream I gave back, but he dropped it when I pulled him away. Great Agatha!

I could not look back because I was afraid of how awkward it would be to meet Sebastian in the eye.

I wish the Earth would swallow me right now.

“Wait. Are you…” Sebastian asked. I could hear him walking closer. “Do I know y…”

“Babe!” Mr. Adam exclaimed after wrapping his arm around my shoulder.

I flinched, but then I tried to act like natural.

“I don’t think hanging out in the convenience store is fun. Let’s go to the mall and buy everything you want, Monica,” Mr. Adam continued.

Who the hell is Monica?

Oh. I got it. It was me. I have to be Monica.

Without looking back, I nodded my head. And then, Mr. Adam pulled me out of the convenience store.

He pulled his arm away from my shoulder when we were far enough. Then, I stepped out, either.

It was embarrassing to talk after he saved me back there.

What should I say? A ‘Thank you’ to the man who sold me as a slave?

“What was that, Monica?” Mr. Adam asked.

Unprepared, I detached my lips. I don’t know what to say. I just felt like I had to say something, not until I heard Sebastian’s words again.

“Agatha!”

With my quick reflex, I grabbed Mr. Adam and pulled him into the narrow alleyway between two shops.

“Agatha!”

I peeked and saw Sebastian looking for me.

‘Sh*t. It was really hard to escape from a friend.’

“Are you really sure that she is Agatha?” his friend, who I only recognized right now, asked. It was Dominic.

“I am sure it was her,” Sebastian replied, catching his breath.

“Then, why did she run away from you? Weren’t you her best friend?”

My hands clenched tightly when I heard that word. We were best friends. But things happened.

“Why don’t you forget Agatha? She’s not in our league anyway. I heard that she was living like a beggar after her father's death. We don’t need beggar in our circle, Sebastian.”

I bit my lower lip while hearing nothing but the truth.

‘This was why I was scared. I don’t want to hear these words from people I treated like family.’

It was so painful that they could discard me like a used tissue just because I was broken.

“Didn’t you hear what happened to her and Mikhail? They broke up and…”

I could not hear anything after that.

Wondering why I could not hear what they were saying, I looked up.

Mr. Adam’s handsome face shone on me. But it wasn’t his face that completely stunned me. It was his hands.

Right now, Mr. Adam was covering my ears with both hands.
