CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN
Jerry sat down but Hammed didn't take the seat she offered.
"Hammed, why are you not sitting down?" She asked.
"I'm okay, just sit back." He told her.
"Hmmmmm." She sat back.
"My mom is not around." She turned to Jerry.
"I'm here to see Mirabella not Catherine." He told her.
"And Mirabella is sleeping." She said aggressively.
"Can I wait till when she's awake? Ooh I'll wait." He said and Michal glared at him.
"She isn't waking up anytime soon." She retorted.
"Michal." Hammed called her but she didn't respond.
Jerry didn't know why she seemed mad at him, he thought they were gradually becoming friends.
He brought out his phone and started pressing it to distract himself from Michal.

Exactly a week after she went to church to pray,Mirabella was smiling on the hospital bed where she laid, been a while she smiled gaily. Michal sat close to her and she wondered why she was smiling like that."Mira, why are you smiling?" She asked, her face plastered with smiles too."Cos I'm happy." She said, even her voice was more audible and she glowed different."I need a favour from you Michal.""What's that? I will do anything." She would do anything to make her get better."I want you to go home and prepare my favorite meal please, I want to eat and I want you to prepare the food.""Wow! You want to eat? Wow! Sure, I will go right away." She squealed and stood up immediately. "Where is mom?" She asked."I don't know." She replied, Catherine walked into the room and saw her sick daughter smiling, it was a good sign she thought.

Hammed and Lekky stepped inside, with Mrs Donalds behind them.They met and her mother in a sober mood, Mirabella's body was still lying on the bed."Senior Michal, what's wrong?" Lekky rushed to where Michal was kneeling on the ground, her eyes were soaked with tears."Mira..." She pointed at Mirabella's lifeless body on the bed, she couldn't the say the words. It was hurtful.Hammed went closer and Mrs Donalds held Catherine."What happened to Mirabella?" Hammed asked, Lekky was already getting impatient."Mira." She touched her best friend's body, it was cold. "What happened to her, why isn't she moving?" Lekky asked."Mira is dead." Michal said, Hammed held her up and hugged her. Michal resumed back to school after Mirabella's burial, it was two months already but the memories of her was still fresh in her heart.She couldn't stay back at home and continue brooding, she was hurt but there was nothing she could do to bring her sister back to life.She accepted it was her fate.She had written the exams she missed the last term during the holidays, a makeup exam was conducted for her. She wrote the papers in a dismayed state but she managed to pass all.She was now in S.s.3(three) with her other classmates, Hammed made sure he was always there for her. He fulfilled his promise of staying with her always.Michal hated the pity faces she got from the teachers and students anytime she was in school. And she wished they'd stop talking about Mirabella.She went to Lekky's new class during break and saw her staring at an empty seat that was next to hers.

Three years later.Three years after the death of Mirabella, everyone was already getting over it even though her memories still lingered in their hearts, she could never be forgotten.Michal accepted Jerry firstly cos of Mirabella's request in the letter she gave her before she died, he came around throughout the times they were mourning her and he did his best to make sure they thought less of Mirabella.After Michal gave him a chance, she discovered he wasn't really a bad guy and he was one of the best man one could wish to have.Her mother finally resigned from her banking job and opened a big supermarket in one of the lucrative areas in the town, she was getting over her daughter's death and they were living fine again, though the house was still empty sometimes.Mirabella's absence made the house empty sometimes.But nothing can be done to bring the

Michal finally graduated from the uni as the best in the department of biochemistry, it wasn't a dream come true but she was glad she was able to barge a degree in the uni.Uni stress was gone, Jerry and her mother attended her convocation and they were so proud of her.Uni was stressful, she met with a lot of people that triggered her love for music, she started doing it on a low key.She was still in touch with Hammed, there were times he'd call her just to complain about the whites to her, she'd laugh it and tell him to mind his own business there.Catherine got pregnant a year after her wedding with Jerry but lost the baby to miscarriage, the doctor told her she was weak to carry a child and that she had zero chances of giving birth later in the future.She'd feared Jerry would leave her, but he loved her more than that he stood with her and never bothered her about having a child.

The hall was so large, chandeliers scattered across various sides, the chandeliers beamed with lights of different colors.It was an award night for all the big and popular artists in the country.She was there standing on the stage with a mike in her hand, she wore a gray gown made from silk, it hugged her curves and stopped at her knees, her braids fell beyond her shoulders making her look so elegant.She balanced on the stilettos that fitted her legs perfectly and her face was plastered with smiles, she was happy she just won an award for the best music artist in the Star Awards.She lifted the award that was carved in a glass up and beamed with satisfaction, she worked hard to get there."Good day everyone." She held the mike up and spoke."Mira, Mira, Mira." The crowd chanted, she knew she was loved. The following week after the concert was Mirabella's birthday.Lekky, Hammed, Michal, Catherine and Jerry stood in front of Mirabella's tomb.Its been eight years already, Michal and her mother always made sure they visited the tomb twice every year. Nothing had changed so far, the cemetery was still usually quiet though few more tombs have been added.Mirabella's tomb stood in the middle of the the many tombs that was there, her name was boldly scribbled on the plank that was painted black.It was her birthday and they all decided to honor her by visiting her tomb.Lekky just arrived from school, so she met up with Hammed and Michal."It's been eight years already and it feels just like yesterday, if you were alive you'd have clocked eighteen today but I know wherever you are now, you are happy and Mira, I don't want you to be disappointed I didn't get to follow that path we both tread before you left me.
