ROXANNE

"Argh!"

The scream that tore through me drained the last of my energy.

Another kick to my stomach, I coughed up blood.

Then I was left alone.

My bullies retracted to the dark side of the cell, laughing.

"She's so puny." Their leader with mean tattoos and a scar running across the left side of her face mocked in her hoarse voice that told me she was a frequent smoker...or used to be.

For the past one week, every morning, a cop would take me from my single cell and put me with these bullies and walk away.

The first two times, I'd thought nothing of it. But the third time, I knew it was no coincidence. This was planned.

And I could guess the three people who had me thrown in here were responsible.

I've been told I would rot in jail. That I would be sent to prison on the basis of murder and attempted murder.

Josh and Vanessa had visited once to rub it in my face and to tell me my fate.

I curled my battered, wounded body, my bloodied lips trembling as hot tears ran down my face.

I was stupid. So stupid!

Josh had never thought of the abortions he made me commit for him, and the third one he and his mother had forcefully ended without my consent.

But here I was, suffering for an abortion Vanessa had instigated herself, no one was believing me.

A figure shadowed the cell, but I was too weak to even raise my face to see who it was.

"Get up!" The barking voice that I now recognized to be the cop who had brought me in here shook my small, weak frame.

He kicked me.

Snickers from the dark corner of the cell reached my ears, heightening my humiliation.

I struggled to lift my body from the cold, hard floor. I forced myself to my knees, but my body gave away.

Before my body could hit the ground, the cop's hand grabbed my arm roughly, shoving me to my feet, out of the cell. He locked the cell and dragged me back to my cell.

I crawled to a corner and stayed there, my body trembling from the torture and lack of healthy food, pain shooting through my heart and tearing it in pieces.

I thought of Josh and this new born hatred for him and everyone related to him. I wanted nothing to do with anyone who was dear to him.

I didn't know how long I stayed like that, my legs propped up with my arms around it, quietly crying.

Was this how my life would end? From jail to years behind bars?

I heard footsteps, but I didn't raise my head. All hope of being saved were gone. I knew mom would be worried.

A sob tore through my throat, racking my body once thoughts of how she would be feeling at this moment filled my head. The slap she had received for my cause the day I was being arrested.

God, I'd never get the chance to tell her how sorry I was for not listening to her. For stubbornly paying deaf ears and claiming to stupidly love a man who never wanted my love.

My nose caught the familiar scent, and I stilled. Slowly I raised my head to confirm if my nose was deceiving me.

"Roxanne?"

I blinked, left over tears running my cheeks. Disbelief and surprise mixed with sadness, "K-kylian?"

"Get her out this instant." The command in his tone was low, but undeniable.

This was a different cop. A woman.

She unlatched the cell gate to let me out. I struggled to my feet, forcing my tired body to move.

He walked in and lifted me bridal style, our eyes met. His immediately clouded with barely controlled rage, strong, chiseled jaw ticked, face set in granite.

But when he spoke, it was a huge contrast what I was seeing — low and soft, "who did this to you?"

I swallowed, saying nothing. I reveled in his strong arms and feeling the warmth and firmness it offered me.

"Tell me."

We were at the front desk where several cops were busy or just sitting.

My eyes strayed to the cop who delivered me every morning to my bullies. Slowly, he followed my gaze to the cop who was talking to another cop, he was yet to spot us.

There was an empty seat nearby, Kylian tenderly dropped me on it.

I lifted a tired, weak arm to hold him back, "p-please."

"I'll be right back." He assured me, caressing my face briefly before he stood and went to the cop.

He tapped him on the shoulder. Attention was now on Kylian, silence reigned supreme, that even a pin drop would be considered loud and noisy.

The latter turned, but before his brain could register Kylian's face, his back was hitting a desk as he toppled over the furniture.

Files scattered and a computer hit the ground with a thud.

"You fucking touched her, you bloody twat!"

I was expecting the other cops to restrain Kylian for hitting a cop and causing troubles in the station, but none dared stepped forward.

"N-no sir. I...I didn't..." The cop scrambled for safety, pushing away from Kylian on his butt as fast as he could.

Kylian grabbed him again, shoved him so hard his back hit a shelf.

The cop let out a grunt of pain. "Please, I didn't. It...it was the other Caldwell and his girlfriend that asked me to make sure she's the only occupant of her cell and every day, I should have her beaten." He confessed, his nose bleeding.

He was now on the floor, his hands crossed over his face to avoid more of Kylian's hits.

Even though I already knew it, hearing it made me bleed even more. Tears ran down my face, my body shaking. My mind trying to accept the fact of what Josh and Vanessa had put me through.

Kylian said nothing.

He just stepped back, and walked back to me. "Let's take you to the hospital."

Gently, he lifted me into his arms and walked out of the station, his expression unreadable.

I looked up at him, holding onto him like a lifeline, "how did you know I was here?"

Carefully, he laid me on the passenger seat, helping me strap in. "Your mom."

"H-how?" I asked, my voice tired but curious.

He skirted round the car, opening the driver's side to take over the wheel, "she called me." He cast me a soft glance, "on a second thought, I'll call my doctor. He'll be treating you at the penthouse."

"Y-you have a penthouse?"

He didn't react to the surprise in my tone. He picked up his phone and made a call to his doctor. Then for the next call, he threw me a look before saying to whoever was at the other end of the line, "change of plans. Leave right now and take the back door."

ROXANNE "She's my twin." I could only murmur, my hands trembling. After that revelation, Kylian had deftly stepped in and stopped me from marching over to Vanessa to demand answers. She must know, I told myself. And if Rochelle said we were close and did everything together back in high school, then I believed her. But where had it all gone wrong? What could I have possibly done that would make my own twin sister ignore my existence? To mistreat me like she had done? I forced my brain to remember. To think back. But like before, I drew blank. Frustration began to eat at me, anger clawed. What the hell was I missing about my own life?!Tears fell, I wiped them off. Mom had lied to me. Vanessa had not bothered to introduce herself properly to me. What if Josh knew? Or maybe she didn't tell him.Kylian glanced over at me from time to time, concern in his expression but he said nothing. Just concentrated on driving us back to his penthouse. He had made an excuse for me when the sha

  • So Long, Mr. CEO. I'm Now With Your Brother    Meeting Rochelle

ROXANNE I lifted a brow in slight surprise. So Kylian was his younger brother. Mm. Crazy. "What have you done, Kylian?" Josh ignored the greeting, expression tightened in anger and what seemed like a betrayal."What exactly did I do?" Kylian's tone was casual, almost boring. People were yet to pay attention to what was happening, but I knew, in settings like this, it was only a matter of time. Josh cast a look my way but quickly averted it as though he couldn't lock eyes with me. He faced his brother again, "you know what you did. Take her back where you brought her from."My chest tightened, an emotion swayed me slightly, not from the pain of unrequited love, but from that of betrayal and burning hatred. "Fuck you, Josh." I cussed, my voice rising a bit.Few pairs of eyes turned out way. Kylian didn't mind the attention, but Josh adjusted himself and cleared his throat, waving and trying to curve his lips as though everything was fine. Feeling tears prick the back of my eyes a

ROXANNE "I don't think I want to go." I mumbled, eyeing the beautiful, expensive black dinner gown spread out with care and attention on the bed. Kylian, already looking impeccably handsome in his black suit, leaned on the door frame, watching me through amused eyes, "and why's that?""I'm not ready to go out there yet. I just want to be alone. Plus, at this point, I don't like attending rich people parties."He let out a small chortle, a brow crooked, "because...?""Because you guys are so mean and snobbish and wicked. Always treating the poor like we're nothing but trash to you guys." I insisted, freshly showered but still in my bathrobe. "Five years of attending with your brother, I've had my full.""Get dressed, Roxanne. Stop behaving like a child." The amusement was still in his eyes, but his tone was serious. Commanding even."But...""No buts," he cut me off, not harshly, but stern enough to have me swallowing any further argument, "get dressed."My lips tightened, my stare t

  • So Long, Mr. CEO. I'm Now With Your Brother    A Visit To Her Parents' Place

VANESSA "Hey mom. Dad." My face lit in a widespread smile, my heels clicking in a hurry to go engulf my parents in a big, warm hug. Mom pinched my cheek as she always did, "how are you, my darling?"I nodded, my lips spreading in a beam, "I'm fine.""My little princess," dad's cheerful voice boomed with a short laugh, he placed a gentle kiss on the bridge of my nose. "How are you?""I'm fine, daddy." I was daddy's little princess and even though I was twenty five, I'd never outgrow that title — not that I wanted to. "You look beautiful as always," he complimented, his eyes giving me an affectionate once-over. "Thank you, daddy." My cheeks were hurting from all that smiling."I thought we'd never see you again." Mom commented from the sidelines. "Mom, I've just been busy. You know, caught up." I bounced my shoulders in a shrug. Then I walked past them to go plop my butt on a sofa. They joined me, taking occupancy on the double sofa, "with what exactly?"I heaved a sigh. This wa

  • So Long, Mr. CEO. I'm Now With Your Brother    In His Penthouse

ROXANNE "I can walk." I protested weakly as he lifted me off my bare feet into his arms."The hell you can," He muttered, anger flashing in his gaze as he saw my fresh injuries from this morning, "you look like a bag of bones.""Don't insult me." My words were supposed to depict my annoyance, but I was too weak to even try.I relented, letting my body relax in his arms, enjoying the feel of his body in close contact with mine. "Call my mom, please. I want to see her." I told him as he carried me into the gigantic glass building that spoke proudly of opulence. He said nothing. It was an apartment building, but the kind that was for those who were rich enough to afford it. Was he the landlord? Because only the landlord would live in the penthouse of an apartment building like this. Or maybe he was also a tenant. The elevator was fast and efficient. In no time, he was stepping out through the sliding steel doors, and heading for the only door on this floor. With me in his arms, he mana
