ADRAINS'S POV

"What's going on?" I heard my beta, Davis, exclaim as he slammed the door shut behind him.

I continued to ignore him and poured myself another glass of my late father's expensive Scotch. Drinking was not something I usually did, as I disliked the effects of alcohol, but I needed a temporary escape from my thoughts.

"Why won't you tell me what's happening, Adrian? First, you go and buy a slave, and now you're drinking? This is not like you," Davis questioned, concern evident in his voice.

"Just leave me alone," I muttered, hoping he would take the hint and back off.

"Why should I? I need to know what's going on with you," Davis persisted. He was relentless when it came to looking out for me.

"I said, leave me alone!" I thundered, hoping that my outburst would make him understand my desire for solitude. But Davis was never one to back down easily, especially when he sensed something was wrong.
